hot deal. any other woolies?
#6
arghh none near me :(

The post should read "Chapel Market, Islington" as there is only one store in Islington, or should I say was.

Hope the chain doesnt close down as it is one of the last few general stores around. :-(

That's why they are having problems, they are the jack of all trades, master of none.

woolies is moving into Sommerfield near me, must be joining forces

Woolworths isn't what it used to be. Our one, before it closed, was nearly all mobile phones, CDs/DVDs/entertainment, cheap unbranded TVs on special offers and pick-and-mix. I tried them for things like curtain wire, replacement shoe soles and blakeys, all stuff they used to stock, but they didn't have any. While they were busy becoming yet another high street entertainment store Wilkos seem to have taken their crown as the best general store.
#11
I believe ;-) that Woolies currently have a policy whereby the will accept any offers to buy out the leases on any of their stores almost regardless of how profitable they are

They are operating as a concession within Somerfield

#15

Not saying there WON't be bargains to be had but presumably all the electricals/mobiles/games are likely to just be shipped out to other branches.....?!??

Did they say over what sort of timescale they were closing Edi??!
(a week, a month or one of those "Everything must go closing down" sales that drag on until the end of the year)
#17
Edi,

probably cutting costs.....they sell so much tat i dont bother shopping there
#19
there are rumours of the entire company closing
#20
Edgware Road nearest to me, although it's impossible to park there as it's slap bang in the middle of Kilburn.
#21
By the looks of it reading the BBC web site and a few other financial blogs' they are looking to get bodies through the doors to give the company a cash injection following recent poor trading.

It doesnt seem at the moment that they are pulling the plug - they are or were looking for a new chief exec etc to head the company - must be looking for a new person to stear the company back it the right direction.

the one in Tamworth closed down the other month. All they did was bring in all the junk from the other stores, and marked them down. All the good stuff just went to other stores!!

Exactly right!

Its a major retailer that have a chain and a logistics fleet, they are not going to start 'desired' items at below cost just to return as much cash as they can. They will ship it to one of their other stores or DC's.

Most of the items will be misc stuff that could be found at similar prices elsewhere I reckon (although would be happy to hear otherwise).

Note: I haven't voted!

"edgware road" starts from marble arch, so I guess "edgware road branch" is the one near to marble arch!

Edgware Road??

That's their (SE) flagship store :whistling:

let me know if any Woolies stores in Edinburgh are closing down. The one near my flat is rotting away. The garden plants are dying, staff didn't know anything (eg warranty period for woolies electricals, the new lovetoshop vouchers mistook as invalid). Much as I appreciate having a woolies near me, I find it difficult to buy many items from there - poor quality and higher price than elsewhere.
#28
The Egdware Road goes on forever, but as I live in West Hampstead, the Kilburn Road (which is technically Edgware Road ie the A5) is my nearest store :)
#29
Nice...

...so does this mean the stuff is being sold off at cheaper than listed prices - even if the item is already a sale item?

...sorry for sounding stupid!!! ;-)

Good to see that the companies which can't innovate aren't able to cope
I hate Woolworths.

Nice to see that you actually got prices that seem like decent reductions...thanks for posting what you found....

One shut down about 18 months ago in Aberdeen and they sold everything at 70% off except electricals/dvd's/cd's e.t.c. As the closing date got nearer they were selling things at crazy prices and if you went to the checkout and the bar code was not recognised (which was quite common as all stock was just getting trollied out onto the shop floor to empty the warehouse) you got the item for nothing. People were walking out with trollies full of stuff for next to nothing. Don't get me wrong there was lots of junk too but there were plenty of hot deals to be had and i would definately recommend that you try and have a look.
#34
And some other bargains too... :)
4) Thomas The Tank Engine Magnetic Sorting Train £3.50 (Reduced from £7)
5) Russell Hobbs Steamglide Advanced Iron £7.50 (Reduced from £15)
