Ok guys, anyone else annoyed with o2 price increases? After getting an email from them I phoned them up to cancel my broadband (pretend). I'm on the old unlimited package and my broadband was £7.50 per month but with new VAT it was £7.66 per month. When i hponed them they told me it was going to increased to £9.50 from 31st March. As usual they tried to get me to sign up to their broadband All rounder package at the cost of £12.50 per month with 6 months free. I told the guy no because i didnt want to be traffic managed etc especially when i was on the real unlimited broadband. I asked the guy if there was nothing he could do for me on the package i was on. He has now given me the same package that i am on the now for £7 per month, inclusive of VAT. That's right £7 which is 66p cheaper than before the prices had even increased. This will obviously only work if you are near the end of your contract. Please don't anyone say "you will be signed up to the new terms and conditions with useage limits" cos i ain't.

Tel number to call is 0800 954 1363

Good luck.

I am with 02 paying £10pm and have been out of contract since last november so this maybe worth a try... Cheers..

O2 went downhill with their broadband I would not expect them to honour the claim of unlimited downloads for that price!
#8
Be careful as there are many horror stories on the o2 official forums where people were told one thing and got another!

Our Home Broadband prices are changing - email from o2

We believe we offer a fantastic value for money broadband and home phone service. However you can leave without penalty if you tell us within 30 days of receiving your price change notification letter or email. Call 0800 230 0202

It is they are not changing my package, just discounting what i'm paying the now. The guy wouldn't lie, in fact he was getting very angry when i repeatedly asked him. He did make it clear that i would be capped if i changed my package. £7 month is good going. He already told me it was £9.50 per month. 1 year contract £7 pm, you can't complain. I understand why lots of people are getting confused, this is bacause anyone who signs up to unlimited packages are capped but not the people who are still on the old tariff. They would change mine to capped if i changed to the all rounder package which is what they first suggested i do. Lots of people get caughtout that way cos they think, yeah that's great, 6 months free.

Unlimited with o2, i mean truly unlimited. No offence but you should maybe do a quick google search to see that anyone on the old o2 package still gets unlimited.

Ok need people to back me up on this one, come on?
#15
They cant lie to you on the phone. I'm assuming that the majority of you guys are on the new capped useage packages.
#16
Only people that have had issues is the ones where O2 outsourced a team to cold call people offering them a discount and then changing the package.

Not when you call and speak to retentions - they know thier stuff.

M8, you're trying too hard for people to like your deal which is a damn good reason to vote cold!

Exactly, you seem like a right tool - therefore have voted cold.

Ok i just phoned them back and asked for them to send me an email confirmation for some of the sceptics out there. The guy told me def not changing my package as it will state in my email that i will remain on the "Standard Package" which is no longer available to new customers. They guy told me if it changed it would state the "Basics Package". I will post a copy of the email as soon as i receive it.

I get free unlimited sky broadband so technically a much better deal than this.

Good deal - I'm on the standard tariff - I just received the email and was wondering what a cancellation call would get me....£7 is unbelievably cheap for this unlimited service

Even at £9.50 it's a great deal compared to what you can get elsewhere

Not sure why all these tools are having a go, other than the fact that they're unable to cope with missing out on the Standard tariff
#25
A13 - is that really free broadband, or do you only get it free if you have a sky subscription? And which package is that?
#26
The Basics

Up to 20 meg

20 GB
Approximately 20,000 emails, 10,000 photos, or 5,000 songs. The average UK household currently uses less than 20 GB a month.

STANDARD PACKAGE

I can confirm that traffic shaping is not implemented for any legacy package customers (i.e. Standard, Premium and Pro). I've mentioned this on a separate thread that traffic management will only be implemented on all our new packages (i.e. Basics, All Rounder & Works).

Thanks Santa, yep instead of people being grateful that i'm trying to help others out i cget people instead attacking me. I sense a bit of jealousy in some people. Anyway guys, if your on the old package just give them a phone.

Just rang up and the OP is correct!!!

I have the discount as of now so I will be paying £5.11 until 31st March then £7.00 thereafter.

This is for the standard package, unlimited no new T&Cs extended for 12 months.

Now awaiting confirmation email.

Voted hot for the heads up. You star :3

Problem is when you ring to cancel what exactly are you cancelling for? Price? If so where is cheaper/better than £9.50?

Hot from me, I called and signed for another 12 months on the sames terms, same standard package- unlimited, for £2.50 a month discount. Thanks.

My Contract is due for renewal in March so we'll see what happens, can't fault O2, last year they rang asking if I wanted to up my package, I said no as 8mb was enough for my area at present, so they gave me 3 months free for taking another year, week later got another phone call asking to renew my contract, I said I already had renewed, so he said thats fine sorry for bothering you, 2 days later I got a text say because I had renewed they were giving me £50 credit on my mobile (which was nice), O2's fair usage used to be 1TB.

I've been on O2 Home Broadband Standard for 2 years now (and want to stay on it) so I'm out of contract. Does this mean that I'd only be able to get a new contract with the new limited packages (Basics/All Rounder/The Works) and not be able to renew my existing one?

Also, at the end of the extended contract, will you be forced to go for one of the limited packages?

I just thought I'd enquire first before calling O2 to hopefully obtain this extension & discount and not end up on a limited account one year from now.

I recently left o2 as a mobile phone customer and was told I'd lose the customer discount.
Spoke to them nicely once the mobile had been transferred to T-Mob and I had no problem keeping the £5 discount despite no longer being their customer.

Does this mean that I'd only be able to get a new contract with the new limited packages (Basics/All Rounder/The Works) and not be able to renew my existing one?.

If you are still being billed for the standard package you should be able to extend your contract under the old terms, before the price change on the 31at March

cabbagebike
Also, at the end of the extended contract, will you be forced to go for one of the limited packages?.

Yes and no. Yes at the end of the 12 months if you do not cancel you will continue on the standard tariff but charged £9.50.

However o2 are supposed to email you a month before your contract is due to end to notify you that your contract is due to end. (I say suppose as my contract would have ended tomos and I didnt get one, but it's written on your o2 account page and it costs nothing to put a reminder on your mobile)

So No if you cancel when your contract ends you wont be forced onto any package.

HTH :)
