Wow, this is great for obese kids before they progress to a mobility scooter.

Price looks good though so voted hot.
#25
yeah great make kids even more lazier and obese.....
#26
Well I only need to shed 60 Kg of my body weight to use it, May be only by skeleton can drive it ;)
#27
shame it cant do 30mph, wouldnt need a car half the time (when goin to town).
#28
probably need motor insurance as well...

Not a Segway so shouldn't really be in the title .... ?
#30
The question is : Can you hack it?
Uprate the motors and batteries etc...
It's probably a quite precise electronic speed control, so you'd need to upgrade the output transistors on that as well, and by the time you've done all that, you may as well buy a real one, or hack your own together (see hackaday.com for a couple of builds)
Unless anyone's got one and has hacked it and wants to comment?

Why does everyone assume these are only good for exacerbating childhood obesity rates? Would you judge one of those electric cars/trikes for children in the same manner? It's just a bit of fun.

Because they are.
Would you judge one of those electric cars/trikes for children in the same manner?
Yes.
It's just a bit of fun.
Get them a bicycle instead - keeps them fit and the batteries don't go flat or wear out. And cheaper. Sometimes you need to step back and consider just how pointless a product is before you waste your money on it.
#34
Besides which, it's not to be used on a public highway but people will still menace pedestrians with the bulky heavy lump (I'm talking about the product, though perhaps the child too...). Oh yes, you'll use it in the park of course, but how will you get it to the park? Oh I forgot, you'll drive. :( If you're capable of lifting 30kg out of the back of your car.

And sometimes it's better to take a step back before posting a condescending comment.

And to the guy posting pictures of segways being misused or with fat people on them, grow up. If i show you a picture of a fat slob at a PC will you stop using one?

I suggest all those entrenched in a knee-jerk Mail-esque reaction that somehow this type of device will destroy the health of our society look into how they can help both adults and children with disabilities.
