WORLD IN ACTION was, undoubtedly, ITV's flagship current affairs programme. Lasting four decades (from the 60s to the 90s) this Granada-produced programme was fearless, trailblazing and hard-hitting, choosing subjects that other programmes would not dare to touch and regularly getting into trouble with the ITV regulators and - at times - the Government. To mark ITV's 50th anniversary, Network are proud to present twelve of the best editions of WORLD IN ACTION:

31/07/1967 MICK JAGGER Personal appearance of Mick Jagger after the quashing of his jail sentence for being in possession of drugs, in which he discusses his attitude towards the society in which he lives with four leaders of the establishment.

11/12/1967 END OF A REVOLUTION? Portrait of Bolivia and events leading up to the death of Che Guevara and the trial of Regis Debray. Includes exclusive sequence on Guevara's death.

18/03/1968 THE DEMONSTRATION WIA covers the anti-Vietnam war demonstration at Trafalgar Square and Grosvenor Square, London, 16 March 1968.

28/09/1970 THE QUIET MUTINY John Pilger Award-winning documentary on the growing mutinous feeling among the American troops posted to Viet Nam.

05/04/1971 THE MAN WHO STOLE UGANDA WIA visits Uganda following the military coup in January 1971, which deposed President Milton Obote, and brought Major General Idi Amin to power.

27/09/1971 DEATH OF A REVOLUTIONARY The mood surrounding the funeral of George Jackson, a member of the Black Panther revolutionary party who was killed whilst allegedly trying to escape from San Quentin Prison.

05/06/1972 THE SIEGE OF KONTUM The plight of the primitive mountain people of Vietnam, the Montagnards, who are caught in the middle of a decisive battle for the centre of Vietnam at Kontum.

03/10/1977 THE LIFE AND DEATH OF STEVE BIKO World in Action looks at the influence during his lifetime of Steve Biko, non-violent but militant black radical leader who died mysteriously after a week's hunger strike while in police custody.

10/07/1978 PRISONER OF TERRORISM An exclusive interview with Horst Mahler, one of the brains behind the Red Army Faction, often known as the Baader-Meinhof group.

02/04/1979 BANGED UP WIA investigates a day in the life of the warden and inmates of the grossly overcrowded Strangeways Prison, Manchester.

16/02/1981 KILLING FOR A CURE WIA looks at the activities of the 'Animal Liberation Front', an organisation that has been actively campaigning to stop the use of animals in experiments

18/03/1991 THE BIRMINGHAM 6 - THEIR OWN STORY Exclusive interview with the Birmingham Six who tell what happened to them after they were arrested in 1974 and charged and convicted as responsible for the IRA Birmingham pub bombings.

This release will appeal to all lovers of incisive journalism and archive television fans, but please note that viewers should also be advised that some of these shows contain images, language and ideas that some people may find offensive

WIA and Panaorama were amongst the best documentry/current affairs made - sadly now we only have a dumbed down Panorama and McDonald Tonight - neither of which are particulary good.......
