World of Warcraft is a massive multi-player, online role-playing game set in the Warcraft universe. In it, thousands of players will be able to adventure together with a new, in-depth perspective on familiar lands, former battlefields and heroes from the legendary universe. In addition, World of Warcraft will introduce new, uncharted territories and new deadly foes.
World of Warcraft takes place four years following the aftermath of Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos, where a great tension has settled over the ravaged world of Azeroth. As the various races begin to rebuild their shattered kingdoms, new threats, both ancient and terrifying, have arisen to plague the world once again. Players must explore the lands of Azeroth, forge fellowships with other players and build their strength in order to prevail.

An action-packed combat system delivers fast, furious combat against multiple opponents, while minimising delays between battles to keep players on the move. A rich, evolving story and questing system will keep players engrossed as the world is regularly updated with new content.

Fully customisable character classes, innovative races, and thousands of weapons allow for a truly diverse gameplay experience that will appeal to both hard-core and novice gamers alike. A simple, intuitive user interface will allow players of various skill levels to easily join the adventure. World of Warcraft also features support for advanced graphics hardware, giving the player superlative graphical enhancements, as well as a sophisticated, massively multiplayer network architecture capable of supporting thousands of players in a world simultaneously.

Can you even play on the official servers without burnng crusade?
#7
Even at Amazon prices. This game will end up costing you £94.44 a year to play online.

Will NEVER be a bargain for me. The fact they even charge you for a disc is a bit of a joke.

unreasonable argument. xbox live charge you a fiver to play online. granted it's cheaper than WoW online but if you really enjoy the game, then it's worth paying for i guess.

It's a hot deal, it's a good price to get started.

The thing is though, you'd think the first hit would be free...

Well, there is a free 10 day trial available from WOW, I've been toying with the idea myself. :)

Yeah you can, although BC is less than £10 so its hardly breaking the bank.

As for it costing nearly £100 a year. How many other games will you play this often before you get bored. IMO it's worth every penny, but it's not for everyone.

Alternatively try guildwars (factions isn't great but the others are awesome). Better looking, cheaper, no monthly fees and the missions are a lot more fun.
#13
I suppose if your gonna play WoW all day everyday and don't have much of a life it is worth getting, if you do have a life and get 2-6 hours of free time everynight, get guildwars as it is a lighter play and even with every guildwars game there is, it is cheaper than WoW! Yearly that is!

Thousands (actually, millions) would disagree with your opinion on WoW, and "Wasted years playing..." could be applied to any none-productive activity, so hardly a fair criticism when suggesting people play Warhammer instead!

Still, we are all entitled to our opinions. Your suggestion of trying the 14 day WoW trial is valid though, so thanks for that. If people like that then they should still be able to buy the retail pack on a good deal (they will still need this if they want to continue playing after the 14 days).

If you see any good deals for Warhammer please can you post...I might give that a try too if its as good as you suggest.

Thanks to those posters offering to boost new players. This is what WoW is all about, and why so many people love it so much.

To those who suggest its expensive...try going down the pub for an hour or two each night and see how much that costs you! Alternatively, you could spend your evenings decorating or gardening (which is what I would be doing if I ever listened to the wife).

agreed I fought against buying it since it came out due to the monthly fees and instead tried guildwars etc what a waste tbh WOW imho is better than all of them. My hubbie and I now have 2 accounts (one each) and play most evenings, better than watching TV imho (not alot else to do when you live 10miles from anywhere) and dare I admit this but bizarrly the game has helped us communicate and work as a team better which has filtered back into real life :-D

The most WOW costs is £8.99 at month (less with long subscriptions) which is about £2.25 a week, less than a pint of beer and far cheeper than buying a new console game every few weeks. My brother reconds he has saved a small fortune since he started playing as he no longer buy games for his wii and xbox360 every other week.

My only grumble with the game is I would like a over 18 server (we already have over 18 guilds now on the server I mainlt play on) as some of the kids really spoil the game as they just have such a terrible sense of sportmanship and fair play. When I first heard people saying this about the kids I did not believe it but sadly in time I have learnt it is only to true.

Good idea. To be fair though, some youngsters are pretty decent WoW players. And some adults...well, just don't get me started.

What I like about WoW is the overall community feeling you get. I have chatted and quested with people from as far away as Russia. Great community spirit. Sure, you always get a few idiots trying to spoil it for everyone else...but that's life.

You are probably right there is hundreds of thousands who do still like WoW, and the game is addictive to an extent. It just was never my kind of game. It's a Pve game not pvp, it uses the word "pvp servers" but its a dumbed down pvp to cater for the younger audience, the game was never designed to be pvp. Dunno if i can agree about the wow community either really, sure there are a lot of nice guys but this is the 1st game i seen with 12 year olds or younger playing!( prob due to every house havign a pc now i guess tho) General chat in WoW was pretty terrible iirc lol

Granted If this is your 1st mmorpg this would probably be the one you compare them all too, it isn't for me i been playing them since UO, now that was a game with real proper pvp! :) Warhammer is going to have similar pvp to Daoc which was fun 40v40 battles and castle seiges with a decent pvp system implemented. I can't say Warhammer will be amazing, iv'e no idea to be honest, but a few friends of mine who are beta testing it whispered a few positive things. I tried Age of conan when it came out and was hoping it would be the next big one with good pvp, it failed.

Warcraft didn't acheive anything of itself imo, it never had a single fresh idea of its own, it stole other mmorpgs ideas and just used wise marketing and the blizzard logo(blizzard are amazing i do admit...bring on diablo III/sc2 please) to become the top selling online game. I prefer playing Dota on Warcraft3 over it any day :)

Can't find a decent deal really for Warhammer, hmv had it for 26£ other day but back upto 32£. I pre ordered from http://www.direct2drive.co.uk/4/6566/product/Buy-Warhammer-Online:-Age-of-Reckoning-UK-(Pre-Order)-Download

Get open beta access, head start and bonus item codes included, so thought it sounded ok :)

I certainly agree on this point. General WoW chat can be pretty annoying most of the time. For new players I recommend finding a good guild to join and then turning off general chat. Try offering to help out other players around your level who are in a guild, and then politely ask for an invite (they may invite you without being asked if you are polite and helpful).

And if you need help feel free to whisper Christianna or Sammyjo on Bronze Dragonflight (Alliance).
