I played this on a free trial it is good but then I can't afford the monthly charges. I play 9Dragons online now which is free and brilliant. I am well and truly hooked.
:)

You can download the trial for 10 days play (which is free). Personally I think £8.99 pm is a con, id rather buy a game outright for say £25, but it is an addictive game.

I tried WoW as well, but was put off by the monthly fees - now I play Guild Wars - can pick the software up for £14.99 from Game, and that's it - no monthly fees, you never have to pay for anything in-game - there are 3 campaigns released at present - Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall - you buy each seperately with a 4th campaign coming out this autumn (Eye of the North)

Much better deal than World of Warcraft IMHO

Better deal but WOW has much better gameplay with over 8 million players.

Bye bye life, I shall miss you.

It's worth noting that although this game does have 8 million subscribers they don't all play on the same server so you're effectively playing different games.

I wasn't fussed on WOW but I just looked up 9dragons and it seems quite interesting! Is there much of a story or is it all grinding?

Isn't this the same thing?

Oh it's gone up to £9.99 now :giggle: Well £6.99 from powerplay is a great price I think.

It is deal of the week at game at £7.49 (Half price)

Online and in store, so go get now and you can be playing tonight.

I picked it up a couple of days ago, and I am loving it.

If you like this post, give me a little rep, as I have only one little green square... Please .. xxx

Asking for rep is a sure fire way to get no rep LOL
You are better to simply contribute regularly and let it collect on it's own :)

Thing is about this game is, if you wanted to play it throughout a year say, building up your character it would cost you £98.89 inc 1 month "free" trial. That to me, really isnt a bargain at all...

But thats for owning the game?, Not trialing it??
#16
I know too many people who come home from work, go to the computer, and play WoW to the exclusion of everything else until way too late, then are tired at work the next day. I think one of them was fired for poor performance.

If you've got an addictive personality, then never play this type of game. I used to play MUDs (text based MMORPGs) back in the day and they were bad enough for time wasting.

Its a trial either way, you cant buy it and play it forever without paying the bargain £8.99 a month...

The 10 day trial can be downloaded for free as i mentioned before.

You have to pay £8.99 to play the game?, Thats mental, Who one earth would pay that!
#19
You pay £8.99 per month after the trial. Bargain isnt it... lol

When you consider you're getting a product that's updated all the time, adding new content, new items, new areas, forever tweaking the gameplay. You're subscribing to a community of millions of players, and have the ability to create an unlimited number of characters across the servers - the price isn't that bad.

Oh, you more than make your money back by the money you save by halving your social life.

On the other hand no time to cook dinner because you're going on an 8 hour quest, so expensive ready meals and deliveries counter those savings.

I suppose, but I personally would rather pay for addon packs and play at my leisure rather than trying to get my moneys worth for each month. Oblivion is a huge game, you buy it for £25, then theres an addon pack for £10. Seems far more reasonable to me than £98 a year.

Millions of people do... Including myself
#24
Fair point Ade2j but its really not a hot deal is it £98 a year... far from it.
#25
The price of the game is irrelevent. It's the subs that is the drawback. They could give the game away and it would still only be warm for me.
#26
I have a lvl 64Priest on WOW. Priests are the slowest characters to level.

But it cost me £18 for Wow(+30free days play). £12 for Burning Crusade. 3 months subscription at 8.99 over the course of 8 months.

So in total £57 + 4 months of my life :-D

A great game ! and I am currently fighting off the urge to subscribe having just graduated uni and been off the wow crack for 6 months with my 3rd year project (thesis) taking up all my time

*cough* Guild Wars *cough*

As a note, I do think Guild Wars is a better game than WoW :) They both have their merits though.

The price isn't so bad, consider it this way:

10 Days Trial - Free
30 Days Game - £6.99
60 Days Time-Card - £16.99

So, that's 100 days for £23.98.

For a game as massive as this, it's not such bad value, and most people will be bored after the 100 days anyway :).

Oh, recommend a friend (who then purchases this at £6.99), and you get an extra 30 days for free ;).
#30
genius !!! you can effectively get unlimited subscription at £6.99 a month with this!!! just start up a 'friend' and use one of these, that will work won't it?

The 'friend' doesn't actually have to pay for any subscription do they? It's just if they buy the game
#31
damn, just checked and no... the 'friend' does have to pay for a month at £8.99 for you to get a month free. ah well, made me happy for a minute ;-)
#32
I did have that idea too, but I knew there would be a catch somewhere :)
#33
showing up as £11.99p!

I wouldn't advise anyone who actually wanted to play the game followed that link, as it is for the US servers, not the EU ones. There is currently no downloadable free trail for the EU servers.

As far as having a monthly fee, most people I know who play WoW were serious gamers before they started playing and would buy pretty much every new game that came out. My boyfriend stops playing every so often, and instead goes through several new console games per month. I doubt even someone as scathing as yourself would have difficulty in working out whether it's cheaper to pay £8.99 to Blizzard, or buy 3+ games for the 360.

Lexeus - I don't understand how you can say priests are the slowest characters to level. I have a level 70 priest, and it was stupidly easy to level.

I accept what youre saying - if youre a hardcore gamer playing several hours a day £8.99 a month isnt bad - but I dont think its scathing to say £8.99 a month (ie £98 a year) isnt really such a "Hot Deal" for casual gamers who might want to play for say an hour or so every couple of days ;)

I installed the trial from that link, worked fine, played on EU servers, so not sure, maybe its changed (I installed it back in March)
