this Company is in America?

I would personally rather use a UK company for something as important as my eyes

Price is for frames only, you have to then choose a lens option starting from £20.

Sorry, got this wrong, I thought all the lenses in the box were £20 but its only the bottom set.

£20 is for bifocals... £12 includes single vision with anti scratch lenses...

It is in America, but I use them myself without any problem. Two years ago I paid £150 for prescription sunglasses - paid only £13.50 this time!:whistling:

I can vouch for www.goggles4u.com as well - absolutely stunning price and service!

they have been ripping us off for years... as said earlier I will let you know the quality and my thoughts from www.thespectaclecase.co.uk as soon as I receive them...

by the way, a lot of the websites for specs are owned by people makin a fast buck... this one seems to be owned and run by an Optician

...and of course he's not in business to make a fast buck then:p

I can vouch for Goggles4U and also http://www.glassesdirect.co.uk/release_000/index.htm

I ordered from both and had a very quick and efficient service from them.

My specs were on their last legs but i was reluctant to shell out £200 odd to get new ones. I've now got two pairs and a pair of prescription sunglasses all for less than £50 the lot.

Absolutely fantastic:thumbsup:

It doesn't matter where they are based. The Online suppliers all have them made in India, Pakistan or China and they send 'em direct from there. They are easily as good quality as you'll get from a UK "specialist"

these prices seem too good to be true

anyway i am part way through placing my order with googles4u,

what is the Refraction Index? i am being asked to choose 1.57 or 1.61

can anyone help please?
#13
I've used glasses direct before and the quality is very good - lasted a LOT longer than my last £250 pair!

Higher the RI , the thinner the lens, but its does make make diff if your prescription is low.. mines up at 6.25 so the diff between 1.40 and 1.60 is a 1mm or so at the edges.

The RI of the material is how much it bends the light, so if it bends the light better, the less material it has to go through. Mostly different plastic composites for glasses

Theres a discount code for goggles4u in the vouchers section.

Every little helps!

Any suggestions for designer glasses.

:w00t: Daughter has taken a liking to Prada glasses.

Surprised cause we are not label types but for some reason she wants a designer name plastered on her face

I bought 3 pairs of prescription glasses (including rimless and sunglasses) from www.optical4less.com They're based in Hong Kong and you pay via paypal. Brilliant glasses for the price. As good as you'd get from Specsavers....
[admin]#18
As noted this is not a UK supplier. This is a site that is buying from China/Pakistan/India just like all the others. There is no difference which site you are buying this from.

Hey 'glimpse,

Quick suggestion about the sunnies....
Check out a UK firm called NotDesigner. They take great pains to explain they're not selling fakes, they're selling glasses that look similar in style to branded products. I know what kids can be like for brands, but I also know that some will see the benefit in having 10 pairs of glasses for the price of 1 pair of Prada (They're still running a BOGOF offer for the rest of this month).

What an interesting idea. I've never thought of buying my Specs from abroad. Could save me a fair bit of cash.
Thanks. :)

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to think again.

If you are thinking of buying online there is a guide on the MSE forum which also lists some suppliers

I worry about a few things although I am very tempted. Are these sites run by qualified opiticians? What guarantees do you get you will get? What happens if you get your glasses and dislike them or they don't suit your face? The difference between £20 or so and £100 is vast there is no denying, but is it a case of wealth before health?
[helper]#23
If you already have a pair of glasses with the correct prescription then it would be noticable if the new ones were incorrect. I don't think any glasses are made up by qualified opticians, the prescription is done by them but not the glasses. When you pick them up from Boots its not the optician that checks if they fit okay but the other staff. I thought it was worth the risk. My rimless ones were around £35, Boots were quoting £250.....

 been offline a few days... anyway, I said I would report on the specs bought from http://www.thespectaclecase.co.uk/
They arrived on Saturday and they look great. The vision is perfect (had an eye test last month) so all in all very pleased and saved a fortune! My local opticians wanted a fortune... these cost just £13.30 delivered! (£11.80 plus delivery)

Just to add my bit to this ... I ordered a pair of single vision glasses from GlassesDirect on the 16th and they arrived today. I was pleasantly surprised - actually I am pretty chuffed with them. They look even better than I imagined and fit perfectly (I spent a fair amount of time measuring my old glasses trying to figure out the right size frames to opt for).

Anyway, I was £15.75 (after postage and the CLUB TOYOTA discount). I would say that the paper brochure gives more info on the size of frames than the website, so it might be a useful thing to get hold of if you're using GlassesDirect.co.uk. I notice that Goggles4U and other places seem to list more info about sizing actually on their websites.

I'll certainly be opting for buying online in the future. It's all good for me because my eye test is free (up here in Scotland).

I felt very smug telling my mum about my swanky new 15 quid specs when hers cost her closer to £400!

Good for you. What's the Toyota discount?
