The original and terror from the deep are worth the price each. Fanastic turn based strategy, I was totally addicted to this game for months.. seriously. There is a free open source updated version however, which for those who prefered these older turn based games, is fantastic. IMHO this is worth every penny and then some. (no need for a supercomputer to play them either!) Hot from me!!!!!

X-Com UFO Defense is one of the best games I've played in more than 20 years of computer gaming.

hot deal - check out [URL="www.lasersquadnemesis.com"]www.lasersquadnemesis.com[/URL] too if you like these sort of games.

It's a pay monthly - with a free trial though - multiplayer version of laser squad - created by Julian Gollop, sadly he's off on another venture at the mo so development is slow these days but t's very good as it is anyway.

Sounds cheap. Voted hot - prolly gonna have to try them too!
Thanks OP.

Think I paid a couple of quid more in the sale at the beginning of this month - more than worth it for first game alone. I bought it at the same time as the Valve pack for £40ish and Bioshock...guess which one I've played more?

Good plug for LSN Worto.

I played it for for 3 years. Best gaming experience of my life, and Worto was my team mate in one of the competitions.
The x-com games are some of the best games ever made.
Voted HOT by me.

Xcom UFO Defense was voted best PC game of all time in 2007 by IGN http://uk.pc.ign.com/articles/772/772285p3.html

It might be old, but that doesn't stop it from being good! Not sure about the rest of the games in the pack tbh (TFFD was rock solid!) but the price is worth it for the first one alone!

I've still got loads of games off steam I haven't even played yet.....Oh well looks like I'm getting this too:thumbsup:

Yet another quality post by you :x , I wish youd go away.

XCOM lovers - If you have a DS or Gameboy Advance it would be a crime not to buy
rebelstar tactical command for £1.95 off thegamecollection, by the original creators of Xcom and almost identical albeit without resource management, well worth the money

Julian Gollop is a legend - Chaos on the Spectrum remains to this day one of my all-time favourite games! Well done on buying him a pint!

Good deal on the X-COM games too OP - heated!

Oooh will have to get this I think, loved playing the first 2 on my A1200. Many a childhood hour invested in these games (well you have to do something when its raining!)

Not played the others but tbh i think Xcom-enemy unknown (and terror from the deep are worth the price!

Still got a few steam games from the sale I haven't played yet, got too many good games to play, not enough hours in the week!

EDIT:

Pagemaster
Oh this is the free one for anyone interested, don't be put off by it being free, its better than a of games I've payed for!!!!

ufo invasion

Played this, although the lack of destroyable terrain kinda takes the edge off it though, and yes i understand why they can't implement it! Still a great game though.

p.s. A fair smattering of Rep added to people in this thread - too many to list!

Edit - oops @ bbcode type - was in a rush.

Awesome - the original X-Com and Max Payne are the only two games I've ever bothered to complete twice. Am about to reinstall my OS, so it better damned well work as I need to take advantage of this deal!

Unfortunately not - there was some talk a while back that some guy was doing a port but he disappeared after only showing a bunch of screenshots which weren't really proof of anything. UFO :UD would be perfect on the DS.

Silly me. I was very disappointed not to see X-COM: Enemy Unknown in the list, as it is the real original one. But I did my research and it appears that in the US it was called X-COM: UFO Defense, which is in the list. So all is good!

And I remember all those late nights, gosh, that doesn't make me feel any younger! I still vividly recall how Terror From The Deep made my heart beat so fast sometimes, there was something in this game that would just grab you by the balls and draw you right into the game field... That was terrifying sometimes...

I so loved these games, many thanks for this post! I'll have to call it a miss though as my exams start next week and I know I can't trust myself. Do you really think I could buy them now, save them somewhere on a piece of hard drive and dutifully revise without even falling for such a temptation? Well, I'd rather not find out, lol, too tempting and I know myself.
Oh, that reminds me I shouldn't even be here...
*closing the HUKD window...*

Many thanks again, and some rep' for all the good memories you brought back, and the courgae to post a deal where people would have to pay for games over 10 years old (I'm surprised you didn't get your head chopped off! lucky you...)
Plus some rep' for Pagemaster too, I'll check that link later, many many thanks!

Indeed. If you ever bump into Julian or Nick again buy 'em a pint from me

Back in the day I rang them up a fair few times (when my parents were out), to see what new games they had coming up. Always got them all. Best games ever.

(Probably the only one I was disappointed with was X-Com 2. Felt cheap as it was almost identical to the first. Fantastic game if you hadn't played the first, of course.)

It may be becuase you have never set the monitor up for 640x480 (or whatever the old dos res was).
I just pressed my auto adjust button on the monitor and it sorted it for me - if you don't have an adjust button I think just changing your desktop to 640x480 and making windows look right will have the same effect? You should then be able to return your desktop to its normal res and the monitor will know what to do next time it gets a 640x480 signal!!

An alternative is... when the game starts just hold down the control [Ctrl] key and press your big enter/return button. This will change the dos window to a normal window instead of full screen.

I think some monitors have a text or graphics mode for dos windows too - but I have no idea what thats all about I'm afraid.

If you still can't see it... then I have no idea!!! Was just trying to help!!

Good luck

What kind of monitor do you have? It used to happen at every change of resolution on CRT monitors, all you need to do is adjust from the on-screen display meny (the buttons under the panel).

If you have a TFT monitor however, that's probably more annoying as you can't adjust those... Never heard of that problem before but hey, with PCs, you live and you learn... Every day!
In that case I would contact Steam's support, they must have contact details on their website.
