But The X-Files pre-dates HD doesn't it - I think the series will have been filmed in Standard Definition 4:3 aspect ratio. Unless of course you mean SD episodes over fewer discs?

That's a hefty 148 hours of viewing right there. ie over 6 days of non-stop spookiness!
Great set - why on earth people keep going on about a blu ray set - I don't think it will be released.
Hi def has only become standard on American TV in the past few years. Hell - even widescreen became standard very late on, as well!
If the 35mm originals are knocking around - you would have to put a lot of work into them to bring them up to standard. I don't think it will happen - considering the wealth of material.
Having said that, hasn't Friends just been released on blu ray? What's the discernible difference in picture? The earlier seasons must look terrible or have been stretched aspect ratio-wise to make the original 4:3 fit a 16:9, defeating the purpose completely.
They kept the original film reel so the movie was easy to put on blu ray.

As said above, it was all done on film so in HD it looks really, really good. Seeing the first few series in HD is like seeing them for the first time.
Only problem with that is that fringe is ****. Whilst the x-files was good though.

Thanks for the info everyone!
I await Fox to stump up the cash - but I can't see this as a blu-ray home release having the same sort of commercial interest Friends - The X Files was very much a commit-to-and-watch-to-the-end series in its latter seasons, whereas Friends will always be a pick-an-episode jobby. (Apologies - it's 3am, I'm lacking the ability to express myself concisely, but you get my gist!)
