10% OFF Games, Accessories & Consoles

Popped into my local Pcworld Store.
Noticed in the gaming section posters saying "10% Off Marked Prices for games, consoles and accessories".
Spoke to the manager, he first said it's off of clearance games and then when he read it again he realised he was wrong and honoured the deal by giving me 10% off of an 'Xbox 250gb Slim Console"
Applies to PS3, Nintendo Wii etc...

From: £159.20p Reduced to: £143.28p

Then managed to get 3 years extended warranty (Accidental) From £45 reduced to £30! That's £10 a year... However this may not be achievable for everyone.

For anyone voting cold please say why and where it's cheaper

hmm, doesn't the xbox 360 already come with a microsoft 3 year warranty?

Not sure however the warranty is optional and cover accidental damages i.e breakages or spillages etc, but this doesn't have to be bought with the xbox to get this price.
#5
How can you get the extra 10% online? Or is it only an option by going into the shop?

I'm not too sure about online, I tried it online but there was no 10% deduction on the subtotal or even at the checkout, you're best bet is to pop into the nearest PC World store if you can and try, and quote from their posters and stand your ground.

I guess so, I was only interested in the Xbox deal but the poster did say games, consoles and accessories so yes , Ps3, Wii, Xbox etc
#9
177 for a PS3? Woah! Might have to pick one up seeing as my old one's packed in!
#10
If you want the warranty at that price, just ask for it, but it is going to depend on the sales assistant.
I work at currys and so know how desperate the managers can get for these, bartering with them can also get it down if the colleage can't afford the discount.

The same deal in my local Currys/PCWorld.

Also can get the Kinect for £89.10 (£99 - 10%) but do it when they are busy. If they are quiet, they will take the time to check and will notice that in ever so small writing on the Kinect Poster, it states that it is excluded from the extra £10% discount.

This would make the both available for £232.28! :D

Sounds like a cracking deal....
#16
Going to see of this works. Hot if it does :)

Xbox's sold in GB come with a one year warranty including red ring, (manufacturers warranty) and therefore doesn't cover accidentals either :/ but like I said it's optional :)

The newer slims come with 1 year in the uk but the older type had 3 years although the extra 2 years weren't comprehensive. I think the dvd drive and psu weren't included it is just for motherboard issues like RROD etc.

Xbox slim long term reliability is unknown but short term currently its meant to be between the jasper and falcon based Xbox 360s due to a higher than normal slim psu failure rate. New slim psus are a much cheaper design than the earlier 360 models. The 360 slim shuts down more aggressively than the older range if it gets hot. Not as aggressive as the PS3 slim though. So this should increase reliability.

So anyone else had any luck recreating this? Specifically with the PS3?

Thanks

I'm interested to know this too, as it seems like the deal could be the managers mistake, I'll stand corrected if others can confirm stores honoured this deal?
#23
It says 10% off all games including consoles, but the consoles aren't priced instore...

I just got back from PCworld.

I just bought the 250gb + Kinect for £232 :).

800 degrees and no confirmation?

Just got back from mine in Chesterfield, staff had taken down all the tickets for the consoles so no deal.
#27
Just tried 3 local Currys/PCWorld (Stirling, Cumbernauld and Falkirk) and no prices on the Consoles - had to ask prices and was told standalone Xbox 360 GB was £159.20 including the 10% discount (when I explained this was price already on their website without the discount they said that on-line prices are different to in-store anyway).

As for the games, I noticed that all the ones priced at £25.00 on the website were priced up at £27.77 (in pen and looked like they had just been added on).

In summary, looks like the OP was either lucky or prepared to stand their ground more than me. Too cowardly to kick up a fuss so just walked out.

Just so you guys know, the PC World in Bradford is still doing them since I got one around Midday..
#29
Got one from pcworld in warrington. Came up on the till at £159.20 and I had to argue for the rest as they said it was a misprice. Don't think this will be available for too long as they get wise to it and the Tesco deal that it is matching finishes!

Did anyone get this without agreeing to their warranty or any other extras?
#32
Just to let you all know..
You should not heed to buy extended warranties and guarantees as you are covered by the SaleOf Goods Act for up to six years from time of purchase..
"If your goods are not satisfactory you may be able to make a claim for up to 6 years in England and Wales and 5 years in Scotland after the purchase of your goods, for a refund, repair or replacement."
For more info check out this URL
http://www.consumerdirect.gov.uk/after_you_buy/know-your-rights/SGAknowyourrights/
Most of the shop assistants seem to be unaware of this but it is the Law so stand your ground and don't waste money on extended guarantees that cost you extra is my advice..
#33
Ahhhh so the sly **** saw that they were doing too good a deal, got a memo from head office and asked to remove all price tags on consoles so they don't have to honour the deal.

Arseholes, not on at all.
#34
Just back from Telford store . Xbox 360 slim 250 GB is priced in store at over £180 and lots of signage has been removed so I think this one is dead now.

after 6 months, you have to prove the console had an inherent fault at time of purchase. Good luck with that.

this needs spamming tbh as it never really existed!
#37
This needs to go back to being expired.

The 159.20 price is with the discount already applied. To get this for 143.28 would suggest to me that someone is asleep on the job.
#38
the price has already been discounted to compete with tesco and amazon the 10% is automaticaly taken off when scaned in the sales collegue must have applied an extra 10% to the price not realising this

of course it exists, I got it and so did others... don't hate on the deal just because you weren't able to get it.

I can confirm that I bought the 250gb one with the 10% discount this morning from the Newport road store in cardiff. I told the guy at the checkout that there should be 10% off and he didn't even check so must have been fully aware of the deal...... hot from me, thanks op
