I was in Gamestation Dudley today and they were selling preowned 120GB Hard Drives for the Xbox 360 for £29.99, which to me sounds like a bit of a bargain. Listed as £54.99 online, so may not be nationwide.

They also had 20GB and 60GB preowned, I think for £19.99 and £24.99 respectively (but I can't remember for sure).

I was going to get one of these HDD's a month or so back but then I realised I could just plug in my WD 400GB USB drive ;)

Not sure what your question is, but if you have a 20GB or 60GB console, then this will replace them, you'll need a data transfer cable (£15) to transfer all your data, or use USB sticks to transfer game saves and gamercards. Installed games and DLC (Downloadable Content) can be done/downloaded again free of charge.

If you mean, can you open up your Xbox HDD take out the old drive and swap it over for a new drive like the PS3, then no, you can't officially.

How? Doesn't the 360 onlye allow 2 16GB drives, so even if you created 2 partitions you would only get 32gb max out of it? I have a bunch of old drives lying about...

Nice deal, heat added.

The fact is that you can plug any hard drive of any size into an Xbox by USB.
It will treat it as if it's a 16gb flash drive stick as far as game related stuff is concerned.

The Xbox will only allow you to use 16gbs of it for loading games to the hard drive, game saves and all the other stuff it would do with an official hard drive (it formats & partitions automatically) but the rest of your hard drive is perfectly usable for pics, music & films.

For a lot of people that does all the job they need doing.
Shame the fanboy bashing propaganda gets in the way of people knowing this.

^^^^ *awaits the ps3 infant who'll post saying 'it took me 3 seconds to replace my HDD with a 500gb, Sony allowed me that option because it loves me and wanted me to succeed at one-up-man-ship against x-boxers'

NO, its called economies of scale, a million and one HDD of varying sizes we're lying around and they temporarily forgot their love of properierty ports and said 'meh, we'll just use these sata drives we need to shift'*

This is a good price for now, but considering that the 360 slim uses a different type of HDD unit I could see the price of these plummeting in the upcoming months.

And sohail123, I don't think ps3 owners care whether Sony's decision to use standard SATA drives in their console was for altruistic reasons or not, the fact that it does is still a good thing for the end user.

Yes you can upgrade your current hard drive to a max 250gb and it has to be Western Digital. Check google there are links, I will be upgrading my 20gb to 250gb soon.

I paid £50 for this a few months back, so this IS a good deal. I think it's after all the criticism MS got for having expensive HDD's, and then releasing the 250GB one for about £75 brand new.

Course, word of warning is that these are NOT compatible with the new Xbox models. Only the older ones. Why you'd not want to detach save-devices I don't know. I like being able to take my HDD and Memory Card to other places to play games with my Gamertag.

All 360s can use a 1-16GB USB drive for saves, so that argument is defunct.

Considering the new one has 250gb built in, why would you be adding another HDD to it anyway?

You can also restore your profile when you go to your mates, too. Only takes 5 mins

I didn't understand a word of that......

Good deal for the 120gb hard drive

Hot

lol just got in from work after a LONG ass shift, was ranting whilst sleepy! Was just saying how some ps3 fanboy will come and say how xbox is crap and sony is amazing coz their hard drive can be changed... was pre-empting that sony didnt use a sata drive to make life easier for customer (coz lets face it, no1 would buy official stuff if we had cheaper alternatives) they probably had a sister company with loads of drives lying around

oh yeah it's definately an added bonus, only got back into console gaming recently and the hard drive thing played its part in factoring a decision but i prefer 360.

if you upgrade the hard drive yourself using a WD 250gb, does it still allow you to save full games onto the hard drive to save on dvd drive laser wear?
#19
So long s you have the Xbox driver on the WD hard drive (and it is the exact same model of drive Microsoft use) then yes, it works fine.
