Ok, this is NOT an original disk drive, so please don't vote cold because of this, it is a 3rd party one, about £25 cheaper than an official one, and probably a Hitachi drive inside. Great price if you have a 4gb and want to upgrade on the cheap.

I have never used Dealextreme and assumed they were a reputable seller, however after reading recent reviews the majority are bad having never received goods or incorrect goods :s

They're slow, but they do turn up.
#4
I've used them in the past, takes a little while to turn up but it did and the products have been fine. Very well know site.

I have ordered one of these from DealExtreme and received it about four weeks later. It looks exactly the same as the real deal and is genuinely 250Gb. Just slot it in and you're up and running

using any harddrive in a xbox that is not official invalidates your warrenty - this will only affect you if you need to get a repair and they check the logs it will show up as a none standard drive. I had this problem with an old box when I changed the harddrive in an old style chasis - hence why i now have a Xbox 360 S as Microsoft would not repair it

It only invalidates your warranty if you are dumb enough to tell them you have an unofficial HDD.

Microsoft tell you to keep the HDD when sending it in to repair.

It's the same thing with those intercoolers. They also invalidate your warranty, but how can MS know that u'r using one if you don't tell them?

I kept my hard drive when I sent my xbox in, they were never told that I had changed form the original hard disk and the issue was not related to teh HDD - however the serial\size of the disk is apparently logged on your live account, which is where they took it from when I sent mine back
#10
Agreed. The whole 'Microsoft will get you!' thing is a big scare story.

I ordered a HDD case from DealExtreme. Delivery took about 3 weeks.
#11
Bought one of these in early January, fitted straight out the box into 360s 4GB console.
Never had a problem with it, works as it should.
As with all HDD you don't get the full 250gb......It show's up as 228GB.

This drive is highly recommended.
#12
Deal extreme sold some 360 slim hdd's recently that were fake and only 80 or so gb in real size (even though they appeared to be 250gb when looked at in the 360 menu etc) They blamed the supplier, if you take the time to read the comments on the product page you will see that they talk about it.

I have had many good items from dx over the years, I will not be buying this though - as it would cost lots to ship back for a refund if it turned out to be fake. The truth is noone has received their order from this product on dx due to shipping times.

They're alright, but they take FOREVER to come (that's what she said).

I've regularly waited more than a month for things (I'm currently waiting on an S95 Case atm).

I think you can just get the cases from eBay and stick a hard drive in them (useful if you've got a HDD lying around), format it and have the same end product - plus that way you're not worrying about whether it's a 80GB formatted to a 250GB.

deal extreme are fine...stop freaking people out...as an example got a 'spy pen' for my son and it was ages before his birthday...when we opened it (on the day) maybe six months later it wouldn't work..I mailed them and the refunded everything after I sent it back....

I've bought various other items over the yars and never had a problem...unlike some UK retailers I could mention!!

Very rarely happens these days, the people that post them know how to label them properly to get through customs. I've never had it happen from dealextreme, your comment sounds like a scaremonger comment, I doubt you've ever ordered from them.

Also what do you mean by 'caught'? they know what it is and where it's coming from!

Last time I checked (not too long ago) this was £18?
Also, the duty would only be less than £9 if the goods were worth ~£44 before adding duty, unless you were importing kid's clothes with something else?

I ordered one of these and all I got was a box and to my surprise a little Chinese boy who promptly legged it upon opening. Cold from me, had to get immigration round and everything.
#21
It's also waived if it's calculated at less than £9 in VAT..

2.3 What are the limits for customs duty and import VAT?
■Commercial consignments of £18 or less are free from customs duty and import VAT. For example, goods purchased over the internet with an intrinsic value not exceeding £18, will not be charged any duty or VAT but this does not include alcohol, tobacco products, perfume or toilet waters. See paragraph 2.5, 2.6 and section 3.
■If you are sent a gift with a value of £40 or less, and which complies with the rules shown in paragraph 2.4, it will be free from customs duty and import VAT, but this does not include alcohol, tobacco, perfumes and toilet waters.
■Customs duty becomes payable if the value of the goods is over £135 but duty is waived if the amount of duty calculated is less than £9.

They don't check every package. I have purchased stuff from the US and have only ever had to pay customs and the Royal mail handling charge once

Nope, it's £45-ish (for a gift I believe) and DX state the price as being alot lower than it actually is.

Yup, the stuff ive ordered from them, they've always marked the price down to less than $10, so it should be fine if they still do that for everything.

I've ordered around $300 of stuff from them once and they 'accidently' marked it as being less than £40 ;)

Red Hot deal !

Heh I forgot about them marking things as a gift worth 10p :D

Shame about the massive delays now, they've really gone downhill. Used to be 2.5 - 3 weeks from ordering to receiving the parcel :/

On the DX forums from previous purchasers. Drives can be flashed to appear bigger, and will show as a 250gb drive, but crash out once you breach their actual size.

Im not a DX hater, ive used them for years and ive got some stuff on order as it is. I was going to get one until I read on the forums.
#32
It also says earlier in this thread that it was a problem a while ago, with the DX suppliers, suppliers, and this has been resolved.

I don't want you banned I want you to realise how you come across when all you post is negative remarks. People post deals to help you, try and help them back.

It's not just you, so many people do exactly the same thing on here and it's ruining the community.

me oo, they have always been spot on with the goods. yes , delivery can be a little slow but I have never had a problem

there are two things to consider: Vat (over £18) and import duty (over £143)

deal extreme will claim its less than 18 in value (ie to replace)

Bought one of these. Only took only 13 days to arrive. Full 250gb and perfect quality. The box even had all the official microsoft holograms on it. If its a fake its the best i have ever seen.

Used DX lots and NEVER had an issue with customs, delivery or anything.

Guys this is a real one not a thirt party like they say I ordered one last month and I have just got delivered and it was an original xbox HD and it is so easy to fix .go for it guys it is a bargain!!!
#40
Well, like I said earlier - if you're worried about buying an 80GB that's flashed to appear like it's a 250GB, you can buy the case off eBay for about £6.50 and a 2.5" HDD for about £23 and do it yourself. It's just a matter of formatting the HDD, putting it in the case, then putting it in your Xbox. Simples.
