Cool price. Wish my xbox 360 arcade broke down so I have an excuse to buy a new one. Then even if I do buy one I have to spend money to buy the transfer kit :(

Crytek let it slip that they are working on TimeSplitters 4 for a “next-gen console”....... and that they are using hardware supplied by Microsoft, plus it appears an announcement about the new console is imminent (Im stunned Microsoft have kept a lid on this if its true), so this may be the start of the discounts to get rid of stock....

True, but they seem to be only a few months into development, it'll take another year at least to finish the game, so they'll either release it this time next year, or november next year. Or maybe they'll delay it to 2013 but that seems unlikely at the moment. In my opinion it'll probably be announced at E3 next year with Timesplitters as one of the launch games and a november 2012/Q1 2013 Launch.

But tbh an Xbox 360 at this price is great, they're are a lot of games for the 360 that are great. Plus Halo 4 and CE have been announced to be coming out on 360, so gamers have games like them and forza/gears to look forward to in the future, so the xbox is still a good console.

Shame it can't play PS3 exclusives though, and vice versa.

Descent price, aint looked for a bit but couple months back the cheapest seemed to be about £160

4% with Quidco too - I'll be purchasing one of these shortly.

My release day console is very loud - pretty much drowns out the TV's sound.

they would have to keep a lid on that otherwise a lot of people would chose not to buy the 'new' slim but the next xbox if out in only a years time.

I am guessing this will drop in price, as the new chip model will be out soon!

what new chip?
http://www.reghardware.com/2011/06/13/microsoft_reveals_new_xbox_360_soc/

I think it's just a more efficient (in terms of power draw, heat generation and manufacturing costs) version of the existing Xbox 360 Slim. Gaming should be just the same as with the current model, but price may come down if some of manufacturing savings are passed on to consumers.

Any person who manages to develop some kind of modified add on device for both PS3 and 360 that allows gameplayers to play both platform games on each other, will surely make a killing!

The information in that article is over a year old and actually refers to the current 360 S (i.e. the one being discussed here). Major Nelson tweeted to correct this after a site first reported it.

I'm probably being dense, but my offspring wants one of these and I'm clueless, but is there really any difference between a 4GB machine and a 250GB one? Does it really make any difference when you play it or can I save a chunk of money and just get the 4GB version instead?

Makes no difference to the "gaming experience" which one you get. All it means is how much memory comes with the console when you buy it. 4GB in my opinion is a little low, whilst 250GB to me is way too excessive. But as far as playing on them is concerned they are the exact same console and their is no difference. If you go with the 4GB and they end up using all the memory space, you can purchase things to give you more memory (USB Memory sticks, New hard-drive ect)

Doubt that it is true - they wouldn't exclude the PS3 (which is more powerful than a 360 and probably comparable to the next Xbox)

oh god, don't start that argument again... they're both similar, one better cpu, one better gpu. End of the day, you go with the popularity and PS3 is behind atm.

PS3 comparable to the next Xbox? I don't think so. I'm a PS3 owner, but I would expect the new Xbox (and PS4 for that matter) to be much more powerful. Even the Wii U looks like it will be more powerful than the current gen, and I'd be surprised if the new Xbox/PS didn't go one better again.

as long as they don't go for digital downloads for the next gen i'll be happy. i like buying games and then selling them when im done to put towards other games. if i can't do that then i would hardly ever buy a game.

I got a feeling it will go this way, either in the next gen console, or the gen after.
although I can also imagine that it will come to memory cards before it goes completely digital. Memory cards would mean faster loading, smaller consoles (no need for a disc drive) etc.

For the £10 extra outlay go for the 250gb. It'll retain a higher resale value, for one, although that probably won't be a factor or make that much of a difference in your thinking considering you probably won't sell it and when you do the 360 won't be going for much.

More practically however, the 250gb can be used to store mp3s (ripped from CDs you already own, or copied directly from a USB stick etc), videos and photos. You can also 'install' the game to the hard drive so the disc isn't constantly spinning when playing a game (the cd will still need to be in the drive for the game to start (piracy protection and the like)), which will help prevent the discs getting scratched. Installed games take up around 7gb each.

The most important thing for your kid, probably, will be downloading the game demo's from xbox live. You won't get many demo's downloaded on a 4gb model.

If you go to game you can get the 250gb with any game for £169.99 if you ask. get a new release and you can trade it back in at £28 cash. this works out to £142 for the console.

The 4GB model is pointless in my eyes considering the minimal saving.

4GB isn't enough to do anything except save games really.

Install games to HDD prolongs the consoles live as well so worth it just in terms of that aspect.

250GB is the way to go!

Or you can get 4GB version with Kinect sensor and Kinect Adventures game from me for just £6 more (unused, unopened) http://tinyurl.com/NEWXboxKinect160 and use usb pendrives / external hdds instead m$ hdd (there is limit of 16GB per device but you can juggle xbox data on pc to store more)
