Are these available to buy in store yet ?
I rang my local Game only yesterday and the muppet I spoke too didn't have a clue what I was talking about when I asked for one of these starter kits.

seems like a good deal

a rather minimalist 20GB HDD costs you £20+ on the 2nd hand market alone

would buying this and an arcade console be as good or better than getting the premium console ?
I understand this would give me 3 months live that isn't with the premium but does the premium come with anything extra that i wouldn't get if i got this package and the arcade ?

Adding this would technically deem your console a 60GB Pro model no different depending on whether you have wired or wireless pads?

What about data transfer cable? Or is it a case of buying a memory card?

Regardless of which 360 unit you purchase, when you create a gamertag you are given 1 month free.

If you were to buy the starter kit, or any other Live! subscription, then you can add that on top of the 1 month free.

thanks for the help guys.
i read somewhere that the free month you get included with the premium is only silver or something and only lets you send messages online.
You've probably guessed that i know absolutely nothing about these consoles ( they're a bit updated from my atari 2600. lol)

Basically then this would be better purchased with the arcade because for £7 more i'm getting everything that the premium has plus 3 months live subscription ( or a total of 4 month ) ?

I've reserved the Argos deal but i'm thinking of getting this now with an arcade because the free games from argos don't appeal to me.

Some content/saves cannot be moved by transfering them via memory card.

The only way to move all content, including that which is non-transferable by memory card, is via the transfer cable.

The transfer cable can be requested free of charge from Microsoft if you purchase an Elite SKU or buy purchasing a the specific 120GB with transfer cable included (there are retail units of the 120GB harddrive which do not include the cable).

Other than the above, you could always pick up the cable via an auction site or through a forum by private sale and/or sharing threads where the cable is passed around.

You also get a Memory card, and free arcade games with the Arcade model

You do however miss out on the component part of the cable which is included in Premium and Elite models. But if you buy a cheap HDMI lead £2-£5 then that'll work just as good.

When you create a Silver account you will be given a 1 month free Gold trial.

On a new console you can obtain a maximum of four 1 month free Gold trials when you create a new gamertag (though any achievements/gamerscore built up on each individual gamertag would not be transferred between each gamertag when created).

You would get 4 months of Gold subscription by setting up a gamertag with the 1 month free trial and then registering the 3 month subscription afterwards. You cannot get the free 1 month trial on a new gamertag if you have registered any 3/12 month subscription beforehand.

Take a look here for details on the differences between Silver and Gold: http://www.xbox.com/en-GB/live/join.htm

The Silver account is completely free and allows you to send messages and to download pretty much all Live! content free or paid for. Gold users may get access to content earlier on a timed exclusive basis (demo's a week early) and/or other occasional offers or bonuses (entry to beta's or free gamer icons/themes etc.) though there is plenty of material that is free to all users.

The Gold accounts allow you to play online via Live! and, as I've mentioned already, may get other bonuses from time to time.

Pretty much as above but to be more precise:

All 360's by default are:
Hi-Def capable and are equiped with a HDMI port and A/V port (for Composite/Component and VGA).
Include a wireless controller as standard.

The different retail units as follows:
http://www.xbox.com/en-GB/hardware/compare101.htm

Arcade
Wireless Controller
256MB Memory Unit
Composite AV Cable (SD Only)
Power Cable
Xbox Live Silver
5 Arcade Games:
o UNO
o Pac-Man: Championship Edition
o Boom Boom Rocket
o Feeding Frenzy
o Luxor 2

Premium
Wireless Controller
60GB Harddrive
Combined Composite AV / Component Cable (HD via Component through a switch on the plug)
Ethernet Cable (Allows you to plug into any broadband/ADSL router for online connectivity)
Power Cable
Wired Headset
Xbox Live Silver

Elite
Wireless Controller
120GB Harddrive
Combined Composite AV / Component Cable
HDMI Cable
Optical Surround Sound Adaptor Cable (enables you to use HDMI and still connect an optical cable to an external amplifier)
Ethernet Cable
Power Cable
Wired Headset
Xbox Live Silver

The migration cable.

The optical adapter..

If you purchase a Premium console and want to use HDMI for video and Optical for audio then you can do the following to save having to buy the optical adapter that is free with the Elite. It involves minimal DIY skills to the Composite/Component cable which ships with the Premium console as shown here.

Game saves can be saved to both a memory card and/or harddrive.

Advantages/disadvantages of the memory card:

Advantage:
The memory card is smaller thus more portable.
Enables you to take your game saves and gamer profile with you AND (the handy part) enables you to plug in your details and use them on a friends 360 without having to swap out there harddrive for your own (you can use your own harddrive on a different 360 though you can only ever have 1 harddrive connected thus access to whatever content is on that particular drive).

Disadvantage:
Does not allow you to use the 360s backwards compatibility (software based though requires a harddrive to function as per the original Xbox).
You are restricted in what you can download from Live! such as demo's, XBLA games and/or additional content larger than 64mb, 256mb or 512mb (dependant on the memory card size).

In my opinion the harddrive is a must if you intend to download content from Live!. The arcarde is aimed at those who are not likely to want to download additional Live! content and has enough space for save games.

thanks for your help Zico, gave you some rep

No problem. More than happy to help.

Still hard to think of this as a "Deal" (which is is by the way!!!) when you consider that you can get a 500gb drive for this sort of price. Gawd bless ya Microsoft
#27
Just got myself a 120GB, but voted hot anyway as it means you can get it delivered early/on time for a great price and don't have to rely on those twits at Play.com.
#28
memory card is very useful to backup your game saves tho. my kids wiped out the saved game for Lego Star wars, with everything unlocked, hours and hours of gameplay. luckily I back em up to memory card on a regular basis. so my advice at this price is buy the arcade, then add this. best of both worlds.

well, you get 3months live, ethernet & headset with this bundle - the HDD on its own works out about £10 (when paying retail prices) or £25 (when paying online/bundle prices).

so its a excellent price for a plug & play 2.5" SATA HDD, & officially licenced
#31
If you don't want the head set and can still live with 20GB reconditioned have a look at http://www.xboxstorageupgrade.com they have got a 20GB recon hard drive + 3 months X-BOX live for £20 delivered. I think this is valid for arcade owners only?
#32
I have got an original arcade, so might be right

I know "Jasper" does 13 months Live Gold for £27 but this is comparing those who shop mainly at game or those who only want 3 months live.
Great price voted HOT...

Can you explain/ give more info, my live subs end this week so would be great to get that deal

Great deal, thanks so much, saves me a lot of money, since I'm from Germany and the same set costs 80 euros here heh ;3

No, this kit does not include anything that will allow you to transfer.

I have a 360 pro and an Arcade, I tried the Arcade serial etc and it said "I am already ready for the Live experience etc" this I believe is because the newer Arcades have a 512mb card(Which is enough) whereas the CORE and maybe early Arcades only had 128mb which is NOT enough....

i'm pretty sure Arcade SKU's still come with a 256mb Memory Unit - its exclusive to the Arcade & not available at retail.
-----
just ordered the starter kit for my cousin using a £10 off code GAME sent me for their Gears 2 price reduction misshap.

£39.99 for 60GB HDD, Network Cable, Headset & 3 Months Live - cant argue with that :)

heat & rep added

Tempted at this price especially if I can make any of the money back with my old 20GB :-D

Would this be a problem though if my 360 died on me and I had to send it off? :o

There were several around for £25 recently i'm guessing the exchange rate has put a stop to that. Cheapest I can find are:

£27.99 from a retailer http://www.xboxliveuk76.com/index.php?products=product&prod_id=21

Or several on eBay for £26 ebay.co.uk items, 260312416778 and 270291264557
