That is a good deal if your not too bothered with teh hard drive
Although some games will eat up that mem card
#2
A good price, yet terrible value compared to the shopto and Play prices for the Pro.

You're gaining Forza (which you can pickup very cheaply now anyway since it's bundled with 360s left, right and centre) and a few (worthless) Arcade games.

Spend the extra, get the hard drive, IMHO!
#3
there's the second wireless controller too, which is why its borderline good deal
#4
3% quidco on hardware should work as well.

Yeah its an alright deal - but no-one really want forza 2 snymore. Better to invest in a premium at least really.

yep and you might get lucky and get 11%, if it tracks as software. I've seen bundles track as software before
#6
Trade forza back in - you get 11 quid for it at the moment i belive, and bingo - controller for free. Well sorta.
#7
Its the same price instore too, so I class it as a good deal. I'm tempted to get one for my son, so the HDD isn't an issue for me - actually, I'd be half-tempted to swap it for the one in the living room due to the new ones being HDMI ;-) He'd never know the difference!

Hi Guys

What's the difference between the pro and the premium xbox 360's?

Is the premium the same machine but been renamed to the pro?

cheers
#9
Quick question, nothing to do with the deal but would appreciate some advice. I bought an Xbox Pro for my son for xmas. He is wanting to play online but we don't have a wireless connection as yet. The adaptors that you need for the xbox are very expensive, even on ebay they go for high amounts. What i would like to know is do you need an 'official' adaptor or can you use others, if so, would you have any to recommend, will need the router also...

Thanks in advance...
#10
just connect to a router, use your official ethernet cable and
go to xbox.com/live for any help

No difference. A Pro is a Premium. They have just rebranded it.

The only minor difference is that you now have the option to connect to a TV/Monitor using a HDMI cable now. Although the difference is negligable.

What the above said. You don't have to connect it wirelessly. Everything you need is in the box! Just connect the Ethernet cable to a modem/pc/laptop/hub/router or whatever else you may be using and you're online!

As far as i know the Pro has an HDMI connection and the Premium doesnt, but has composite lead instead.
#13
Don't know how this compares but John Lewis are doing the Premium version (not Pro) with Smackdown, PGR3, Live Arcade Unplugged, live headset, component cable and an extra controller for £249.

I plumped for this and bought in store on Friday (in MK) as it seemed like a good deal. Just a shame the box is so noisy, I thought the original Xbox was loud but this takes the biscuit!

this john lewis deal sounds ok...is it the new version with the hdmi??
thanks

Old model I'm afraid.

Read somewhere that the new HDMI ones are no quieter than the old models but may be less likely to overheat so I took a chance. At least it'll be easy to get an exchange from JL If it goes wrong...
#17
that really is a shame as this is otherwise a good deal. could u please take a pic of the dvd drive when open. i have had 2 with hitachi drives which have had to be returned and heard the new ones with benq drives are much quieter and of better build...
thanks
#18
Hope this helps

its not the same hitachi one that i had so that can only be a good thing! thanks a million!!
#20
Glad to be of help. With the drive open it seems to be quieter too :p
#21
is the picture any better with the hdmi?? can u still get 1080p with the non-hdmi version??

You do get 1080p via VGA or Component, however it depends on whether your TV accepts 1080p via those connections (some 1080p TV's only accept it via HDMI for example)
#23
im thinking of getting the samsung f86 to use with this - would it accept 1080p over non-hdmi?

That's a Samsung drive I think.
#25
I got one of these on friday from game, some info that may be helpful.

It does have hdmi, but a cable isn't supplied (I had to buy one)

The Forza 2 game that comes with the extra controller has bundle copy written accross the jacket and on the disc, which may affect your ability to trade it in at game.

The dvd drive that was in mine was the newer BenQ one (aparently quieter)

Oh and don't forget to use your GAME Reward card for £5 Credit.

Yeah, most GAME and Gamestation stores will refuse it. But if you live near a CeX they'll happily take it off your hands

You'd have to check Samsung's site for that, if it's not on the Specifications page then go to the Support Center and download a copy of the manual.
Most TV's manuals have a table of the video resolutions/connection combinations supported

the 20Gb hard drives can be picked up for about £40-50 second-hand nowadays anyway, so there's a pretty cheap upgrade option for the future :)
Also, check the back of each game to see how much memory it wants or whether it needs a HDD (only a couple older 360 games do), and you will need a HDD to play original Xbox console games.
#34
so the 256mb mem card is ample for storing saved game?? if this is the case im off to game to buy this tomorrow!

check the game boxes, most have the memory requirements on the back, e.g. PGR4 only wants 400Kb for its saves, Gears of War wants 1Mb, Crackdown's even less (140Kb). Halo 3 has an ominuous 'Optimised for Hard Drive' message on the box, but it's save is 2Mb, they obviously mean the game can cache onto the HDD to speed it up, but it's not required.

Even most Live Arcade games are under 50Mb, so you'd still be able to download a couple of them.

There are a couple of games that have larger save games, but they're few and far between.

cool, time to vote this deal HOT now!

I'm really in two minds about this one. I know that I can add the 20GB HDD for £44.99 from Woolworths, bringing the total price to about £245. But I already have a wireless controller, the plug and charge kit, and the HD-DVD drive from when I had to sell my xbox 360 (for financial reasons).

I also really want pro evo 2008.

Am I better off waiting for a little longer, so that the HDMI version of the console starts appearing with the pro evo bundle? Is this likely to happen?

Or am I better off biting the bullet and going for the arcade version, and then adding the HDD drive and pro evo 8 separately?

any thoughts would be appreciated :)
#39
The memory card is more than ample for storing saved games, I use a 512MB one for my profile and about four others, with all my save games (which is a lot).
#40
got the pro (hdmi version) with forza 2 and extra controller in gamestation for £249.99 yesterday.
