Don't forget, if you find stock in your local Asda, you can price match it at PC World or Currys, less 10% the difference.

I matched against my local Asda a few months ago, to get it for £94-ish. You also have more chance of getting a Jasper model from Currys. Although by now, they could have filtered through to Asda (they were various chipsets at Asda last time).

Curry's price match promise doesn't mention Asda. To get it matched at PC World what do you do, just tell them and they ring Asda to confirm?

I'll go to the Asda at Longbenton later and confirm if they have any in stock.
#3
I know it doesn't mention it online. Maybe it's not upto date, or it's upto the local stores discretion.

They certainly price matched mine at Curry's a few month ago (It didn't mention Asda on their site then either). On the till, the supervisor selected 'Other' for the price match.

Here's one of the old threads http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/391147/xbox-360-arcade-console-101-95-asda/?p=5078660#post5078660

Will have to pick one up as a spare. :)
#5
Were the not meant to be £80 im sure i saw a thread last week about this?
#6
So in theory if you get this price matched you could get it for ~£88? that is pretty cheap. Do these arcade models have the option of HDMI out?

Longbenton, Newcastle Upon Tyne? Didn't know there was an Asda there?!

Sorry, got my Benton's mixed up, its the store in Benton I meant NOT Longbenton lol. Not much further to go though if you are after one.

Any news on the Pro and Elite consoles?

I guessing Gamestation won't price match PC Worlds Price match of £88 :-D I've got some games to trade in which would knock another £20 off

#12

Nuneaton asda says still £135 odd and Hinckley says £97 but non in stock yet?

time for Coventry. any one got one yet? the staff sounded baffled?
#14
Tilbury Asda didn't have any in stock :(

First WHSmiths now this, I'm never going to be able to get a cheap 360. Might as well just bite the bullet and pay full price...
#15
Phoned Canterbury ASDA and they said the £97 Arcade deal starts tomorrow and runs till Sunday. £135 today is the Arcade price
#16

True its not. Yea bentons are all a bit confusing. Do you know if they have them in? I don't even want/need 1 but at this price you could probably sell it on for a profit!
#19
Bargain price, voted hot!
#20
how do you know if it's a Jasper model before buyin? any diff in the box or serial no?
#21
Apparently if the model was produced after August 2008, then there is every likelihood that it will have a Jasper chipset. I'm led to believe the Jasper 360's run quieter and cooler.

Definite proof is to look on the side of the box and check for the Console Power Rating

If it says Console Power Rating: 12.1A then it's a Jasper.

Now a question of my own.

Can you add a 20Gb, 60Gb or 120Gb (Elite) hard drive to the Arcade systems? Is it a case of slapping the drive on and off you go?

Cheers

rep for this should go to kobirulali

Yes, remove the dummy plate on the top of the arcade system, then plug in the hard disk, good to go.

A trip to Asda beckons....

has this actually been confirmed yet???

What's the 360 arcade like as a media centre?

I currently have an aging shuttle pc under my downstairs tv that I use for playing videos from my main pc upstairs, and while the network can handle streaming 1080p content, the shuttle pc isn't fast enough to decode it.

Is the 360 good for this kind of thing? does it support all of the common codecs? (divx, xvid, h264, ac3 etc etc)
What's the UI like?

The only real way to get a 360 to play HD content (720 and 1080) is to use .wmv files (ewww) they do not support h264 codec OR .mkv containers. Streaming is nice and easy by installing tversity on your PC though, especially if you have a proper remote for the xbox (or an all-in-one that supprots it)

If you want to stream via network your best bet is always going to be a popcorn hour media tank, that supports everything every invented ;) however they are £200.

Nice Deal, ASDA are miles away from me so thought I might be able to use PCWorld/Currys price match, but neither of them have stock.

Does anyone know if ASDA will reserve one by phone in the morning for pick-up tomorrow evening?

thanks
#29
None in stock at Benton Asda and still priced as £125 I think it was but if the deal doesn't kick in till tomorrow then that'll be why. I might ring round some other local Asdas once the deal kicks in proper.
#30
Anyone have an idea as to what time the prices change I will be passing a Asda on the way home after midnight tonight.
#31
Has anyone bought one at this price? Tried Portsmouth and Havant and they quoted £97.00 but have none in stock. PC world will only pricematch if it is in stock within 30 miles.
#32
good deal; worth getting as a back-up machine!
#33
v good price. Can't stop playing fifa 09 on mine
#34
anyone know if you can still get the wii play for £10 with the wii at asda?
#35
Just phoned my local Asda Living store, and they have 12 in-stock @ £97.

I'm torn whether I actually want one though - even after comet price matching it down to £88 - I won't be using it for games, and for media streaming it seems rather sub-par. ( while tversity looks like a very neat stop-gap solution, re-encoding on the fly isn't ever going to be an ideal solution )
#36
btw, how does the comet price match work out @ £88 ?

Asda price is £97; comet/pcworld website price (for the bare bones 360 arcade) is £129.98.

price match + 10% :-
97 - (129.98-97)*0.1 = £93.70

Is the Asda 360 Arcade that is on offer more than just the bare bones? does it have 2 controllers + some games?
#37
Query : if I buy an Arcade model what will I not be able to do? Downloading would be limited right, but online play would be unaffected?

Nice deal. I imagine Arcades will be down to £99 for Christmas this year anyway after Sony cuts the PS3 price.

Can I watch DivX movies on the Xbox 360 arcade?
