The deal is still on according to their website - easier to take it back to Argos when the red lights appear lol!

To make way for the super expensive super elite?

Talk about flogging a dead horse - it's about time we had a totally new machine I reckon!

I reserved one myself from Argos this morning, but not everyone lives near an Argos store or one with remaining stock.

Does anyone know if the Arcade has HDMI? or is it just component/scart?

Once you factor in the price of the addition controller and game it works out around the same price as a 120gb elite standalone elite.

why? it's primarily a gaming machine. Blu ray players will be sub £50 in the near future anyway.

it needs an inbuilt wireless adaptor

This.

Rechargeable controllers (without buying the battery pack), and free online play wouldn't go amiss either. :whistling:

they aint if they did what would they jus drop support for people with jus 360s with dvd drives the only way they would be able to do it would be if they made a new 360 with bluray built in and gav all 360 users an external drive but they wont do that as it would cost them to much money

yeah bluray for the games a dl dvd holds 8.7gb a dl bluray can hold 50gb they will need a bluray eventually as games are getting graphically better and actual games are gettin bigger u cant hold it all on 8.7gb why do u think forza had 2 discs and final fantasy is gonna hav three 8.7 aint enough for a game these days
#20
Xbox gaming is getting rather expensive.

I just heard that Battlefield Bad Company 2 are charging for DLC..........on DAY ONE!!

Apparently every game will soon have bonus code DLC to boost sales and stop being from buying second hand / renting.

Don't PS3 games need a 4gb cache to the hard drive (I'm not having a dig or fanboy commenting) in order to improve loading times due to the bigger games? Bit of a trade off I suppose.

It doesn't need built in wifi, by selling the free bits from my two amazon machines i've picked up two 360s for £45 and £55 each over the past 12 months - (one for games, and one solely as a DVD player/media centre streamer). Both are hard wired into the router, whereas although the component cost of wifi is low, it would have probably been an extra £20/30 on top of the machine cost if it was built in as i'm sure MS would claim the cost back of the R&D.

Live is superior to PSN, and for the price of one game per year it's well worth it.

rechargable pads is a tough one, i had a play and charge and got rid because it can't charge from a mains adaptor on the newer 360 pads. Wasn't happy leaving the 360 fan whirring or the PC on overnight to charge it when a set of 2 AA rechargables costs nearly nothing, and is easily replaceable. Not sure what happens when the PS3 controller battery dies?

Yes, but in the end they're still forcing you to buy it, no choice of a cheaper brand new Arcade (if the rumour of Elite & Arcade phase out is true)

Rechargeable controllers (without buying the battery pack), either. :whistling:

NOT this...

My launch day PS3 controllers are only lasting a few hours now, the LI-ION battery is dying and I'm having to look at buying 3rd party batteries from eBay and ripping my controllers apart to replace them, or buying new controllers...

I wish they'd just make them like the Xbox 360 with replacable batteries :whistling:

Removable batteries are better unless you like to have a wired controller while charging.
I'd rather switch out batteries than have to use a wired controller.

A DVD DL can hold just under 8.5GB/8GiB of data - XBOX 360 games can not take up more than 7GB (Stupid Microsoft Rule).
At the moment, Blu-ray is not really needed for gaming - it's primary purpose is for movies.
Almost all PC games are still being able to fit on a single DVD even though they have far larger textures, so BD isn't really important at the moment for our current gen consoles.
Games that will really benefit from BD would be those with 'Full Motion Videos' (FFXIII).
The second disc of Forza 3 was only 1.9GB.

i dont notice much difference in loading times on the ps3 ur talkin bout 3 secs difference i aint hating iv got a xbox and like it but the next xbox WILL not maybe it WILL hav a bluray its the way forward developers dont like having 2 different formats and ur right bout live comparing live to psn is like comparing a ipod shuffle to a ipod touch what would u rather hav a shuffle for free or pay £30 for a ipod touch (terrible metaphor)

how can u say its need more for movies NO its mainly needed for gaming if xbox had bluray games would be atleast 20gb each they hav to compress the game to fit it on dvd dl final fantasy is three disc thats terrible

multiple discs have been around for years. only now are people starting to constantly moan about it. ms have missed a trick with that though, you should be able to install the other disks to the hdd and then only need the first disk, like forza3.
built in wifi would be nice, but that usually drives the cost of the machine up leaving people who don't want/need wifi to cover the costs of something they don't need. although they really need to drop the prices of the wifi adapters .
the controllers should come with a rechargeable battery, but it souldnt be built in like the ps3's. don't think people like having a wired controller while the battery charges up. its too easy to swap battery packs on the 360.
a cheap 50quid external bluray drive would be nice too, but I think most people have already bought a dedicated player or a ps3 for blurays.

Face reality people the xbox 360 is a much better (games) machine then the ps3 the online gaming is much more superior and i would rather pay £40 a year for it with the ability you have of online partys, private chat in games etc

if you want a blu ray player just buy one from richer sounds for £79 its simple if you dont you have a exellent games machine for £99 everyones a winner:whistling:
#31
What is the cheapest way to make one of these wireless?
#32
All the 'wants' for xbox that people are describing sound very similar to a PS3 lol Have owned both consoles and there's no difference online apart from the party chat, which will probably be a feature soon seeing Microsoft and Sony like taking each others ideas lol Sold my Xbox and a week later it got the E74 error message haha when I sent it to be repaired they said it had been tampered with (which I know it hadn't been). No problems with the PS3 yet and had it a year.

Almost all games this gen do not require a BD disc as they fit on a DVD.
Blu-ray was made FOR movies. High definition video has a very high resolution & bitrate, so therefore requires higher disc capacities.
PC's have had high definition resolution textures for years & not needed anything more than a DVD DL.

JRPG's are the only type of game to really benefit from being put on a BD as they have a lot of Full Motion Video (lots of *video* [movie], footage).

Don't worry, every console will have a BD drive next gen.
