You can buy a 20 gig HDD for the 360 arcade from PCWorld for £27.99 online
http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/sto...ory_oid=-30361

or ask Comet to price match it (comet price £69.99)
mine came in at @£26.00
#3
Yeah, I thought that was funny.

It's like the console is still £199.99. It's a shame they haven't lowered the price of the deals as well but i'm not complaining at this price.

Edit- See what you mean now, I didn't even notice that. Somebody's got the prices mixed up somewhere.
#4
Mark, does having the hard drive make it the same spec as the pro?

I was looking in to this myself cus i've just bought this deal. Is it a usb hard drive?

If you don't mind me asking, did you just pick up the drive and take it to the counter and ask for a price match or did you have to phone/print out something first? I've been looking at these since ordering a 360 but pick up only from PC world and can't find them in stock anywhere.

Does anyone know if Comet is open today? assume so.

bubba, yes adding the 20GB drive would make it the same spec as Pro with the exception of a bit of "chrome" trim and the headset I believe:

I went into Comet asked how much the 20gig hdd was, told them it was 29.99 in pcworld , asked them to price match and they rang them up to check. No hassle from staff at all but has to be in stock in a 10 mile radius of the comet store.
The hdd iself is the proper microsoft jobby.

According to the link above, the "Arcade" variant supports "ALL XBOX 360 GAMES", whereas the Standard & Elite variants offer compatibility with "ALL XBOX 360 GAMES + OVER 300 XBOX GAMES".

BFN,

Thanks mark, might give that a go then.

The hard drive is required to play original xbox games which is why only the Pro and Elite support them out of the box, adding the HD to an arcade allows you to play xbox games like the other 2 packages.

Thanks for the clarification.

Just need to find some decent titles for the Xbox 360 now... :)

nice deal

anyone looking to get a XBOX 360 Console, this is the one to get IMO.

* it's white, so you can use the chatpad, HD DVD player, quick charge kit - without it mismatching the console.
* £26 hard drive @ Comet as stated above [if you need one - not required for online gaming > 256MB memory unit provided]
* no headset - while they get the job done very well, the wired headsets are very annoying IMO [mainly due to the cord getting in the way, tangling & restricting]. Just get a w/less headset [£27 - price match Amazon @ PC World (it has a 9m range & USB charging - other reviewers have wrongly stated otherwise].
*worth noting that this SKU doesnt come with an ethernet cable -|- few quid on ebay :)

# and you can always upgrade the console [120GB HDD, HD DVD, W/less adapter etc...

hope this helps someone looking to buy an XBOX 360

Here is a link to the original Xbox games a 360 with HDD can play

Fantastic deal - I bought one last week, and for those that are interested, my arcade came with the new Falcon chipset (much less prone to the Red ring of Death) - in fact I understand that ALL arcades are falcon chipset models as they have only been producing this package for a few months - I cant confirm whether thats definitely the case, but I know mine certainly was.
#13
Has yours got the HDMI conection?
#14
I'm sooo tempted shame the deal with the extra games isn't much good.

All PC Worlds near me have no 20GB HD so Comet won't price match unless it's in stock.
#15
Have you called the nearest PCworlds or checked for stock online. I don't think the online reservation service is all that accurate. When I went into PCworld yesterday they had none on the shelf, but when Comet called them they were in stock.
#16
yup HDMI - HDMI is listed in the official spec of the Xbox Arcarde.

So you could get the Arcade, buy this for the harddrive, get one of them attachable keypads that also have the headset included I believe, and then splash the rest on a hi-def cable of some sort which might set you back around £200-210 almost the same price as the Pro and for that you get extra a 256MB memory card for your save games (imagine your harddrive went bust with 100 hour Oblivion saves) and a keypad! (maybe also get your friend to 'refer you' and get 10 games free as well) It's a shame that Gamestation don't do an overall topsellers list because I would like to see where the Arcade places in it.

I think the offer for 3 games is very good value. If you add to that the 120gb HD from Gamestation it shows as £99. If you are after popular premium games (not some dirge that some bundles contain) it looks good.

Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock NEW (Xbox 360) £49.99
Halo 3 NEW (Xbox 360) £34.98
Project Gotham Racing 4 NEW (Xbox 360) £39.99
Xbox 360 Arcade Console NEW (Hardware) £149.99
Xbox 360 120GB Hard Disk Drive NEW £119.99

Subtotal: £394.94
Total Saving: £64.96
Postage: ---
Total: £329.98

Unfortunately my wife needs convincing, so I can`t get one. The price for xbox360s is due to drop by £50 across the range at the end of Jan, but I think with this deal it may well be not worth the wait.
#19
What a joke!!!!!!!!! This was out of stock at £150 last week and after waiting for it to come back in stock it comes back but at £200 so I decided to get one from play for £180 now its back to £150 grrrr lol.
#20
I've checked all pcworld stores near to me as well and they don't have any stock. Where is the next cheapest place?
#21
This is probably a stupid question but can anyone tell me the cost of online gaming for ps3 versus xbox 360 ? I've just got a ps3 and although I haven't got it online yet there doesn't seem to be any mention of needing to pay a monthly subscription to play games online. In fact I'm sure I saw it say it was free somewhere. But the xbox description seems to imply theres a monthly fee. Have I got it wrong ?? Thx.
#22
you could try ringing currys and dixons to see what there prices are like, I saw a thread the other day that said currys was selling the 20gig hdd for £27.97, buts its not on the web site

see kathrylouise's post

This offer was supposed to end I think on the 31st December that's why all bundles went up in price. I presume what happened is that the page with the 149.99 Arcade got left out and wasnt updated, So take advatnage of it while you can.

The bundles DID drop in price before. It was 169.99 for arcade 360 + 1 Game and 199.99 for Arcade 360 and two games.
#24
There are quite a few versions of xbox360.... can someone tell me / us what are the differences between them??? thanks

Yup PS3 Online is Free but for Xbox live you have to pay. You can pay for one month, three months or an entire year.

Does the Xbox 360 Arcade come with an optical cable?

no it doesnt > ebay is the place 2 go

I bought the Arcade + 3 games including Halo 3 from Comet online just before Xmas for £185. I had to take it back to a store a couple of days ago because it had a faulty ethernet port on it. So they refunded £199.99 and resold another to me for £199.99. I asked if they price matched gamestation and they did, so they gave me £55 back (£50 + 10% of the difference), so I got an Xbox 360 Arcade + 3 games for £130!!
#29
Reg89 - I nearly did the same thing, it went out of stock and I nearly bought one for £180 elsewhere but decided to wait and see if they went down. I got lucky i suppose.

It did go up to £199 when it came back in to stock but today it's gone down again. I thought it was a mistake, could well be i suppose :-D
#30
Note - if you want to use a HDMI cable and optical output you need to buy the official HDMI cable.
#31
I'm guessing there's a high likelihood that Gamestation simply would not honour this price and send out an apologetic email?

I also guess that most store, such as PCWorld and Comet, would not pricematch against this price given that it appears to be a pricing mistake?
#32
Just got back from PC World in Northampton - Showed them the gamestation page detailing the arcade at £149.99 and they pricematched me. Very Happy :)
#33
cool, good job emasu.

What makes you think that? its only the entry level version which floats around at various prices between £150-190 normally without sales and newer machines around - for me its a great deal as mines just given up, any body know what make of disc drive these have in them?.
#36
The 360 arcade does not come with a hard drive included
