I saw this posted for instore a few days ago but the thread has vanished?? Either way it's now online but only till the 4th of May. Got myself one to replace a 3 year old faulty unit. Excellent price for the console! The console is £97 with £4.95 delivery.

From info, the arcade model includes:
1 Wireless Controller, 256MB Memory, Standard TV Cable, Xbox LIVE Silver Membership and 5 Arcade games (UNO, Pac-Man Championship Edition, Feeding Frenzy, Luxor 2 and Boom Boom Rocket).

There is no hard disk with his model, it has an HDMI port but doesn't come with an HDMI cable.

The version I got instore was one with the latest JASPER chipset, hopefully this will be the case for ASDA direct. As far as I know the offer is still available instore.

#2

#3
But the threads keep vanishing.

One I went for yesterday wasn't a Jasper, but managed to get it price matched at Curry's which was. £94 after 10% Price Promise the difference.

Changed price to reflect delivery. Instore is still £97.

Not sure why the last threads vanished?? I know they have a habit of becoming xbox vs ps3 fests but can't they just be locked?? Still a good deal even if people do end up having an argument in the thread :)

Guys excuse my ignorance, whats a Jasper??

Jasper - Latest revision of the Xbox360. Uses thinner 65nm CPU which uses less power. It also runs cooler and is suppose to be the solution the the RROD.

The Jasper is the third generation motherboard for the Xbox 360. It's been redesigned in this hope of fixing the red ring issues and problems with overheating. Some info here: http://news.cnet.com/8301-13772_3-10054436-52.html

LOL I'm in a vanished thread!

It's a good question, why do these threads keep vanishing and how many other threads vanish too?

Jasper is the latest chip, supposed to run cooler and not cause the dreaded RROD. Consoles with the Jasper chip have a 150w power supply, it should be listed on the white label on the box (if you're instore).

But why? This is a genuine deal. I posted this one myself yesterday morning and it lasted barely an hour.

There might be a case for spamming the endless Littlewoods voucher deals .......
#13
Well I posted it again because the original post 2 days ago got me a cheap console that I had spent ages searching for. I was going to buy one anyway so saving £20+ was great. I only reposted in the hope that anyone else in the same position would be able to benefit.. that's what the site is all about surely? Finding something cheap and sharing it with everyone else??

just had my elite back after the rrod from germany where it got sent - can anyone tell me if they replace the cpu with a jasper as am not sure how / what they do with it - any info / help would be appreciated thanks

Well that doesn't explain why the deal I posted yesterday (this actual one) was deleted, it may (or may not) explain why the shop deal the day before was deleted.

Is the implication here that Asda themselves posted the deal in the first place? That's the only conclusion I can derive from the description of "self-promotion".

Odd, all very odd. I clearly haven't been here long enough!

From what I gather they swap like for like, so if you had a falcon board you get a falcon back. I think it's to do with the power supply, the Jasper units ship with a 150w power unit, the falcon has a 175w and the original a 200+ An easy way to check is to see if you have 256mb of internal memory. The Jasper boards all have it built in, so when you select where to save a game it will show the HDD and the 256mb seperate.

Re: the old thread.. I don't recall seeing anything in it that would suggest it was self promotion. Just a shame to see a good deal binned.

If you look at the Asda Direct deal it says: "Built In Memory 256 MB " so they must all be Jaspers?

One of Hot Deals most sacred rules is no self promotion. They must believe that the original deal was posted by an employee of Asda. Although they have deleted the original deal the Mods must have taken the decision that any subsequent deals for the same item will be deleted even though they are not self promotion.

They may decide to leave this one just to stop it being posted again (they are probably getting fed-up deleting).

Can this be used as backwards compatible? Just a thought

You can play some original xbox games on the 360 but you need a hard disk to install the emulation software (it might work with a memory card but I've never tried it)

Yes, for savegames, no, for downloadable content.

I asked if they had the Arcades in stock and then asked if they price matched with Asda.

Manager / supervisor said 'YES' - He even gave the till operator the phone number of the local Asda to check on the price and that they had stock.

On the till, screen it asks to select the company they price match against, Asda wasn't listed, but she selected 'Other'

Before I went to Curry's, I tried PC World (same company) and asked if they price matched Asda and was also told YES - Only when they checked their computer, they didn't have any Arcades in stock.

Wow that sucks :? There goes 1/3 of your 3 year cover then!

Just for the record though Jaspers have been known to RRoD already search Youtube for the Resident Evil Elites, there's one that RRoD'd on its third day lol.

I'd want it for the onboard memory too though

I can't blame you tbh, but what excuse are you planning to use? Might be worth trying to just get a swap for a newer one (stand more chance than a refund for one thing)

i dont care about jaspers im gonna contact MS and see if they will make the warranty date from todays date, will probaly need to scan and email my receipt. Though Asda will cover the warranty for a year according to the bird who sold me it.

Check my price match thread mate, can get it for cheaper and more likely to get new stock at PC-world, currys, Dixons etc like W1zz:thumbsup:

What are you going on about?

Warranties commence from the date of purchase note the date the machine was manufactured.
#35
I bought this from Asda early this week. Works well...
Just couple of questions
1. Can I connect regular hard disk..external hard disks..will it work with that?
2. Can I play original XBOX 360 games such as latest Halo 3

1. You have to buy a special Xbox harddrive that costs way more than a regular harddrive Im afraid.
2. This is an Xbox 360, it plays Xbox 360 games. Don't be confused by all this talk of Elites, Arcades, Jespers etc, they are all Xbox 360s and play all Xbox 360 games.

Not the three year manufacturers warranty. That would be from the day it was manufactured

You can connect an external USB hardrive with media on it . Such as music and videos etc. As the other post says you need the Official one to save games to and download demos.

Great deal!

I got the red lights last night :0(

Microsoft will repair under warranty (I bought mine on release day) but will take probably a month to turn around.

Nipped to Sainsburys too see prices and it was 129.99 for an Arcade. Not particular cheap but wanted one then and there so I asked the member of staff to get me one and he bought me a Premium. I played dumb at the till and said the label says 129.99 and low and behold they adjusted the price down for me to 129.99 for a Premium!

Got lucky eh, worth a try in "Less Tech Savvy" places I'd suggest!

Think about how much sense that makes. Its 3 years from the date of purchase. Or if youre lucky its 3 years from when you actually register the console with MS.
