I went to get this earlier as I need a replacement 360 and for once purchased the extended warranty (something I never do as generally they're a rip off but thought it worth it for a 360).

The extended warranty has be put through as a separate transaction, so the girl processed the Xbox first and gave me the £10 voucher which she then applied immediately to the warranty at my request. As an Argos cardholder she was also able to put both the console and the warranty on the 3 month interest free option, though the warranty just needed manager authorisation to make sure the three month option was applied.

Hope this helps.

Can't understand why you'd get the extended warranty @ £37.99 (3 yrs).

You already get 1 year manufacturers warranty (3 years against RROD).

Under sale of goods act, you can claim against Argos for up to 6 years (5 in Scotland). In reality, expect to 2-3 years without much of a fight.

If your console ever did break and you weren't covered by any of the above, how much would a new console cost? Probably under £75 in 3 yrs time (less £37.99 if you were prepared to pay this for an extended warranty but didn't). You'd also get a decent price for your old console as spares.

I'm on my 5th Xbox360 and have only ever paid for my original launch console, the others have been repaired/replaced by Microsoft.

Interesting. My sons 360 died last night E73. I have lost the receipt so no proof of purchase from statements etc either. I was looking at this deal along with the extended warranty.

3 year warranty covers RROD. 1 year for other faults as you say. You don't have to look very far to find a 360 owner that has suffered a failure. My first machine broke recently and is less than 3 years old but not RROD. Micorsoft want £75 to repair. If my new machine failed after 13 months then, as you say I could argue SoGA, but if Argos were to refuse to play ball then I'd have to initiate proceedings spending money on court fees and more importantly time that I'd rather not spend with letter writing or preparation of the claim form.

I intend to sell my old machine for spares, fetching a few quid on ebay and will probably sell the wireless entertainment pack that I got yesterday with the new machine, fetching a few quid more.

I agree with you that extended warranties are, as a general rule, pointless and not really worth it, but for the ease of replacement that this one gives and considering that it costs less than a one year subscription to Xbox Live, coupled with the 360's notorious reliability issues, I decided to go with it.

Ultimately it is up to the buyer to decide: I'm not saying you should or shouldn't buy a warranty, just giving my experience and trying to help.

Isn't this the regular offer? I recently grabbed the 60GB with Halo 3, Mass Effect and Forza 2 for £188 from Argos. I thought about this Arcade deal VERY carefully, but the 256MB memory card is a bit weak, especially considering that even some basic game saves are 40MB upwards and you'll be deprived of DLC for many games (inc updates if you have no room). If only the hard drives were a bit cheaper, it'd make this deal even better.
#13
i got this and then the 60GB HDD separately as it worked out cheaper then getting premium xbox 360 & extra controller at the time.

even more so when i traded in old ps2 games to put towards HDD at local game shop
#14
Hard drives are essential these days but getting the Arcade + 20 quid for a refurbished drive direct from Microsoft is still a good option.

Really ? It should be £25.99 for consoles under £150 and the policy is the replacement product scheme. If the console breaks within 3 years you take it back to Argos and they actually give you a new one or if one isn't available they will give you gift vouchers.

The breakdown cover that costs £37.99 is for consoles over £150 and this is a breakdown policy. So if your console breaks it will need to be sent off to a 3rd party repair shop and they will repair it (if repairable) and send it back to you.
