I was just in 2 GameStation and 2 GAME stores in Liverpool and all where selling the Arcade console for £69.99. Both stores offered 12 month warranty with them. Ideal for a replacement console. These are the HDMI version. Am not expecting this to be really hot because of the known issues with the Xbox 360 consoles.

But the Arcade consoles have a Falcon or a Jasper chipset in and I don't think these have a high failure rate unlike the none HDMI consoles. These also come with a wireless controller.

GameStation seemed to offer a game with there consoles unlike game.

I can't remember how much it was but Game were selling pre-owned hard drives as well, it may have been either the 20GB or 60GB for £25 (don't quote me!) so for £95 you'd have a complete set up really, except the games part...

As its HDMI would that mean the picture quality would be just as good as the XBOX 360 Elite if both consoles were connected via HDMI?

Yes it would be. The only difference in the Arcade and Elite is that the elite is black and comes with a 120gb HDD and comes with a headset in the box.

richardeames - The both stores where selling the 20gb Hard drive for £19.99 each.

True but remember not long ago GAME where offering the 20GB Pro pre-owned for £69.99, and at the the time there was a discount code bringing the price down to £65.99, still the same 12 month warranty. Granted most of us who bought it got a console without HDMI but it was a good deal none the less.

Is this the same unit that was £49.99 from Blockbuster?

I really want to get an Xbox JUST to play FIFA but am really insure whether to get the new slim for £170, or this old one 2nd hand for £70. Is the extra £100 really worth it? Baring in mind I have no interest in a big HD etc as I will be hooking it up to my computer monitor so my PC will be right next to it.

I didnt get the Blockbuster one as they wouldnt tell me if it had HDMI or not..and I didn't want to buy an older version because of the known problems with RROD...but this one has 12 months warranty and is the newer version....

This is an ideal deal as Im going Uni soon and I would rather just transport my harddrive to and from campus. Voted hot

I remember that deal but if I remember correctly the Blockbuster deal was for the none HDMI core packs. If it is just to play FIFA then just get the arcade you get 512mb memory with it. But I would recommend getting a 20gb hard drive as well.

You would have to be thick to buy a used Xbox 360, I see people all the time bringing them back to GAME store and the staff give them a right load of hassle and crap, when clearly the unit is defective or banned.
#10
These have been available new for around £100 numerous times in the past 12 months, sometimes with games. Personally I would not buy a 2nd hand 360 as so many are damaged or banned and there is no way of knowing till you open the box whether it has been treated well (even then you can't see inside). By the time you have taken it back three times and repeatedly had to argue with the staff the £30 saved will seem like chicken feed.

No if you are not going to play online then you don't need a hard drive, also you can use any usb stick up to 16gb if you needed it...

Yes will be playing online, do you need a HD for that? I have a 16gb USB stick..

Or an extra £35 for a new Arcade and a top game:

http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/xbox-360-arcade-with-forza-3-instor/730328

Just takes a bit of effort to find one, but there have been loads of deals mentioned at these sort of prices. Personally though, if I had waited this long to try the 360 I would wait for the new Arcade systems to either drop in price or come with a decent game bundle. I reckon it will be around £110 by Christmas or £150 with two of the latest releases.

Surely anyone (thickest included) would just return it?

£19.99 for 20gb
£24.99 for 60gb
£29.99 for 120gb hard drives.

HOWEVER, Some stores MAY still have refurbished 20gb hard drives which are literally brand new from Microsoft, these are £9.99 When Bought With ANY Core or Arcade Console - I sold one like this the other day, works out as a cheap 20gb console with guaranteed HDMI.

Also, im currently on Holiday, but we had a choice of 3 games for £20 more, think this deal has changed though.

Amazing hot, if you are even considering a 360 buy this ASAP.

Have a broken 360 with RROD, can I take the hard drive from it and use it in this ?

I hope you don't buy pre-owned games. As the devs get nowt for that, whilst the retailer gets 100% of it. Its as bad as piracy in my eyes (or worse considering the environmental damage, plastics, fuel etc).

Yes you can no problem. Just simple take the hdd from the broken console off and put it on the other one.

If these are banned from Xbox Live, will GAME replace with another 360 Console?

I heard their sales assistant tend to fob off people once their products are sold, I'm really bad at complaining so don't want to risk it.

Also is it worth getting GAME care for another 20 quid for RROD protection?

I'm new to Xbox 360 btw.

Yep - If its banned they HAVE to take em back :) Im a sales assistant, and trust me, its the senior sales/management that try fob you off, dont take no crap :)

Gamecare is £24.99 on this - its upto you wether its worth it, it covers your controllers etc too for 2 years accidental cover as well as manufacturers, in most stores if your in the 2nd year they will replace/credit any consoles but SOME may say you need to ring the insurance number and get it replaired, but really does depend on the store/manager.

Thanks for all the advice.

Went into the Game in High Street Kensington and they had 1 in stock. A 20GB HD is £20, but only £10 when bought together.

Anyway I decided to pass - will wait till Fifa 11 comes out in October, by then they should hopefully drop in price even more. Also the checkout girl said that to play online xbox live you NEED a hard drive.

Not sure if you were being sarcastic with that reply or not but the difference with preowned games is that the developer have been paid for that game once already, with piracy they dont get paid at all (or maybe once for the original for 100's of copys) so it is no where near the same.

Unfortunately not - at least in my case.

All of my USB sticks failed the test that the unit performs.

On the plus side - my WD 400GB HD with all my movies/music/photos etcs works a treat through the 360 - the console was worth it for this function alone X)

p.s. I can't stand these stupid/poxy looking new emoticons....

I though it was limited to 16/32gb.

How have you got 400gb working?

How have you got 400gb working?

The difference is whether you're using the USB drive for game saves/downloads etc, or using it as an external storage for films/music etc. For the former there's a 32gb limit (tandem 16gb drives), for the latter you can use much bigger drives.

This is a great price, but I'd be extremely wary of buying a console which might have been banned from XBL.
If you stuck your (perfectly legit) old hard drive onto a banned console and tried to go online you'd obviously be able to take the xbox back to the retailer for a refund/replacement, but would your live account be flagged or banned for that one unknowing infringement?
If that's the case perhaps you'd be best off setting up a temporary account to see if you can get online - but then you'd maybe have to pay for a one month subscription to properly verify it.

Yes but pre-owned games take away new customers. I have friends who wait a couple of weeks and buy a pre-owned. Sure the developer got money off customer A, but they get nowt off B, C and D who buy A's game when A has traded it in (bloody As, they're always at it). If there was no pre-owned market then B, C and D would have to buy a new copy. So in that example the developer has lost 75% of sales- so what I am saying is I'd rather see that 75% download it. Its the same as 1 person buying a CD and copying it for all his mates. That is clearly piracy as the potential sales have been lost.
