Saw this in woolworths, sold out at my local but looks like a nationwide promotion

Couldnt see this posted, so hope it hasnt been! The offer was FREE GTA4 worth 39.99 with any Xbox 360, this means the best deal was

159.99 for an arcade with memory card, arcade games & gta4

or 199.99 for a premium with gta4, which is similar to most deals around, also had an elite and gta4 which i think was about 229.99?

Yup picked up the preium one myself this morning, its a great deal :)

It is a good deal, I think the arcade deal is slightly better, just because GTA is 40 quid everywhere, meaning your paying 119.99 for a brand new arcade if you was goin to buy the game anyway, which is cheaper than anywhere and so much better value than a 99.99 core which could break, and only has a wired pad

great deal.....still broke....

Hi,
Thanks for info.
Bought the Arcade one as I need xbox only for GTA :P
Bought it on Woolworths website but I am worring now...

Xbox 360 Arcade System 1 02-May-2008
Grand Theft Auto IV 1 14-May-2008

:(

I have selected collection in store and it show that I can collect console on 02 may but game will be awaiable on 14-may ? I need it for bank holiday!
#5
plenty of signs in the window of the Leeds (merrion centre) branch saying out of stock
#6
Isnt there a 10% off code for woolworths?
#7
I have ordered the premium with GTA 4 on play.com and used the 5% off coupon getting it for £190. Having been reading up about this recently, it seems you do need the HDD for playing games especially newer ones. And also some have quite large save files. thats why i stayed away from the core or Arcade systems.
#8
plus 2% Quidco
#9
picked my elite up this morning + GTA IV for £259 :) hot

+ 1 month xbox live
#10
the 10% code no longer works.. just comes up as expired when i tried to use it :(
#11
The Elite is £259.99

Also premium 360 is out of stock and can not even be ordered online.

The 10% code has expired! :(

Still voted hot!

Got GTAIV today - it saved a huge amount of data onto my PS3 before even starting the game. So if your getting a 360, your better off getting the premium or elite just to be safe.

That's because SOME games on the PS3 needs to be installed to work thanks to lazy developers! they dont have to be on the 360 :D

This is false. Whilst a HDD may improve performance (load times and amount of pop in etc.), GTA and all major releases will work just fine. Only Football Manager and MMOs require a HDD. That's not to say it isn't worth the investment but if you're strapped for cash this isn't a bad deal either.

Arcade model with 256mb will be enough to handle GTA 4 saves ?

But it runs better (less loading times) and looks better (according to most reviews) on the PS3 because they don't have to cater for the cut down hdd-less version.

If all the 360 versions had HDDs we'd be installing to HDD too.

Yup, easily, developers have to make saves smaller than 64mb, so people can save on the smallest memory card available

chances are saves will be 5-10mb max, havnt seen the box for the exact details, at the end of the day it saves how much money you have and your location, no way will that take more than 256mb, your crazy to suggest it

I picked up the Pro model from Southend this morning but power supply is 203w and Lot number 0731.

Looks like they are getting rid of old stock.

Can someone confirm if this is likely to have the dreaded RROD issue.
Thanks

Bought my copy of GTA IV this morning with my mate (Already got an Elite)... then when I got home he decided he wanted a 360 premium so we had to go back and get him it... well worth it tho.

The newer ones use the falcon chipset and run at 175w, so you have indeed got an older one.
Older ones are more prone to failure (33% failure rate I believe) as I experienced not long ago, but apparently the newer ones still having around a 10% failure rate:

EDIT: This is an excellent deal by the way.

There's the same number of loading times, just slightly shorter ones on the PS3 thanks to the HDD installation (required as currently Blu-Ray runs at lower speeds compared to DVDs).

Graphically they are on par, the PS3 version is running at the lower resolution of 630p (then scaled back to your TV resolution) however, thanks to which more horsepower is used to improve other elements of the graphics.

The 360 version has slightly more 'pop-up' and texture load delays (e.g. when a nearby object looks fuzzy then suddenly improves), but is running at 720p with better anti-aliasing.

Each GTA 4 save on the 360 is approx 1Mb, so the memory card will be ample space for saves.

Remember folks, you'll be needing a hard drive for your 360 to play the new missions in Autumn

You need the HDD for Football Manager 2006 and Final Fantasy XI, Original Xbox game support and for larger downloadable content. Some games also require the HDD for online play. The 256Mb memory card is ample space for quite a few game saves, most games have save file sizes < 1Mb anyway.

The rule of thumb is: If you're taking your Xbox 360 online and intend to buy the mission packs coming out later this year, you're probably best off with the Pro or Elite.
If you're just buying a 360 to play GTAIV and are not bothered with the online element, then the Arcade model is fine.

Remember, the 20Gb HDD is getting cheaper and works with the Arcade, so you can always buy the HDD later if you're strapped for cash right now :)

You mean the loading times are even longer without a HDD!

They are bad enough as it is. I swear the loading times haven't changed since I had my PSone. I think EA are the worse for it. But Racing Games and Lost Odyssey wind me up as well.

Thanks for this.

Ordered an arcade version :)

2mb each save

only games that really tax the mem card are forza 2 and orange box (40mb per game - however many saves)

unfortunately, going by just statistics alone... yes. The older Xbox's are more likely to fail
#28
you know, i'm starting to wonder whether the old stock will ever dry up. Microsoft will just keep repairing old consoles that suffered RROD and reinject it into the system. The only way stocks will completely dry up is if the console is beyond repair and Microsoft have to bin the console.

THis might take a while!

That isn't lazy at all it means it will run a lot smoother. 256 memory isn't going to go very far for GTA4 when they release the xbox exclusives!
#30
Is this not working no more?

Cheers

My neice wants the new GTA, but only has a PS2, so wants a 360 console.

I suggested the Woolworths Arcade + GTA deal for 159

But her brother reckoned she needed a HDD and the memory card wouldnt be sufficient, and convinced her to buy his mates second hand Premium for £100, and then she has to pay £40 for the game. So shes forked out £140 in total for an old console and GTA4

Madness if you ask me. The new one would be better, considering it would still be in warranty and less chance of 'ROD' failure.. Oh well, some people never listen lol
#32
the premium (with hdd) is 199.99, so 140 all in isnt bad

a new 360 is always better, the memory card for GTA is fine, itll save your game about 200 times so its not inadequate at all, but if you wanted to download them extra missions or play online i think you might need one, so might work out slightly better :)
#33
Yeah, spose so. But I think this console is a couple/few years old, so definitely out of warranty. I duno, I think it's just me, Id be dubious about buying a 2nd hand 360 because what Ive heard about the failure rates. Plus she doesnt have an internet connection, so wouldnt be downloading the extra content etc so 256mb would have been sufficient for what she would use it for.

But as long as she's happy.. lol

Also got the 203w model (lot 727), haven't opened it yet. Going to take it back tomorrow and ask if they have the newer 175w models, if they don't get a refund!

Anyone bought a newer 175w model from them?
#35
Went into 2 woolworths yesterday and told the deal is over.

They cant have sold many as apparently they were only getting 3 or 4 copies of GTA in at a time and they were being snapped up in minutes!

Anyone who managed to get one of these though - good bargain!!
