Hi, might be a silly question but can this be used as a method for connecting a wireless controller to be used on the PC instead of having to buy a wireless receiver?
#16
I've often thought about getting one of these, but ended up just getting a battery charger and couple of sets of rechargeable AA's.
The one thing that put me off this was the fact that to "Play and Charge", you've got to plug the thing into the console itself and, if that's the case, would you not be just as well to buy a wired controller?

Off as in off at mains no, off as in stand by mode, power supply turned on at the mains and connected to your Xbox, yes.

No, the signal from the controller is still wi-fi. The cable is plugged into the battery purely to charge it.

Every non-official battery pack I've had has been pants.

I wish I went with rechargable AAs now.

you can also charge the controller from another power supply as well, i.e. your laptop or a usb plug socket (I use this method as my sofa is just to far away from xbox)

We've bought a number of these over the years, the non-microsoft ones typically stop working after 12 months in my experience. The MS ones are still going strong 4 years later. I think it's a false economy to buy the compatible ones. My sosn are on their third set that has failed, and the next ones will be the official one.

nice find. reserved, will pick up tonight.

Is it possible to use the xbox 360 controller as a pad once it's connected to the computer? I'm abit too lazy to bring out my wireless receiver and plug it into my usb port. (both me and my brother is sharing it so I can't keep it connected on my computer)

[edit: just found out that the cable is only designed to charge the battery when connected to the computer. It's doesnt send controller input to the computer to be used as a PC pad. Oh well at least I dont have to use that box of energizer my dad got for me]

Got one, thanks poster

Thanks, my current battery is a bit flakey so I've reserved one of these and I'll pick it up over the weekend.

Shame I've got so many of the damn cables now though.
#34
Great! Cant go far wrong for a fiver!!
#35
Thanks needed some of these as my older ones have started to loose there charge and for 4.99 ill pick up 2, thanks again 8)
#36
To put some balance to the official vs. unofficial, I have had 3 official ones over the years and all 3 have started failing to hold their charge with 12 months. The unofficial ones are no different for me but cheaper. I have a game unofficial one now that charges through a standard USB cable and that is still working 12 months on and will give me a couple of weeks of gaming. The re-charge does take longer than the official ones.
#37
I have had my official battery for 3 years+ and it still going, although it dont last like it did,but i have had around 3 non official that have died on me within a few months! I think the venom battery packs are the best non official, but for £4.99 you cant really go wrong!
#38
Thanks OP, reserved two!
#39
Thanks OP. Heated and ordered.

Complete and utter rubbish. If you want a wired controller, go ahead, but mine charges, and 30 secs later it needs charging again. These really are cheap for a very good reason. Save your money, these are not worth it.
