Is this a Microsoft controller, it certainly looks like one in the picture? However, PC World still have a Microsoft controller for £39.99 on their website??

I would imagine it's just the standard wireless controller you get, without the rechargeable battery pack.

It should come with a couple of standard Duracell/Energiser AA batteries.
