Core < Arcade

So you make the decision.

Absolutle insanity to buy a 2nd hand Core.

Shopto.net (when they have stock) for Arcades for £140 - Play.com do them for £150 (in stock) - arguable far less chance of a fault and definately less of a fight explaining to some guy/guyette in Mumbai that the reason it's registered in someone elses name is you bought it 2nd hand from Blockbusters and they really should honour the warranty instead of telling you the repair is £60.

When I got my 360 repaired I spoke with an American sounding guy who was pretty friendly with thankfully idiot proof instuctions. Plus it was all free despite the fact I didn't have a receipt as a result of it being a gift. The HDMI would be nice but to get it for this price I'd be happy with the Core.

This is absolute tosh, when you buy it either ring them or go online and register it to yourself. If you read around the RROD threads loads of people have done this no questions asked. i don't think they're stupid enough to think they don't move around, nor is the warranty with MS exclusive to the purchaser so there are no grounds not to change the details.

Moreover, I've had mine for 3 years and it only recently had an RROD, sent it off, next day courier at MS expense and had it back within 10 days with a new MOBO and an extended warranty.

Plus I'm sure Blockbuster will give you some warranty, I'd imagine 3 months if not a year.

For <£100 I think this is a bargain a PS2 will still set you back £60

If your getting a Core/Aracde for GTA4 i'm sure that multiplayer and online content requires the harddrive, solo games does not.

EDIT: Multiplayer above relates to Burnout Paradise, not GTA IV. Downloadable for GTA IV of course requires the HDD

You need a memory card to play online, nothing more.

If it's an older model it's more likely to get RROD.
You really want one with a falcon chipset. Easy way to tell is the power brick, they only come with 175w, not 203w

I guess so, but it's still a good price and Microsoft seem to have a fairly lenient repair policy. For what my first post is worth I consider this to be hot.

That's unusual for Littlehampton Blockbusters to have anything deemed as cheap. Even the second hand games are more than Play and Amazon.
Still, sometimes they have got some almost gone off popcorn on the counter for half price...wonder if I should list that?!

BTW...Looks like a good deal!

IMO Buying a second hand 360 is like buying a ticking time bomb.
For reliability, buy a new falcon Xbox 360 or better that and buy a Wii or a PS3 (although why the Wii is regarded as a next gen console is beyond me :whistling:)

Me, I can't wait till Tuesday.
It is almost guaranteed that my PS3 will still be working in time for GTA.
I can only offer the greatest sympathy to the owners of an RRoD'd 360 as they will miss out on what is set to be the pinnacle of gaming history.
(I am not being sarcastic btw:oops:, I just want everyone to be able to experience GTA IV:thumbsup:)

I was gonna say pretty much the same thing!

Core comes with 64mb memory card if I remember correctly and wired controller.

£100 for a 360 is still pretty darn good, would be very lucky to get HDMI!
#19
very good price but i'd avoid it based on the RROD rates of these older models, its not worth the hassle!
#20
There is a reason why they are clearing the old xbox's no doubt because they will soon be out of Microsoft's warranty. due to the problems with the xbox faliure and xbox live blacklisting I have to say this is a cold deal for me.
#21
YMMV but this is very cheap for what it is to be fair.

If it turns out to be Live banned or fails within the year it's under Blockbuster warranty then take it back to them. Can't complain for £99.
#22
My experience with Microsoft repair on RROD was quite good. Turnaround of about 2.5 weeks and they give you a month of live for your troubles.

Given the 3 year RROD warranty and the UPS pickup & return of your console at MS expense, i think <100 pounds is a cracking deal. Especially if you can get 3 month warranty from blockbuster. Just make sure that the warranty with Blockbuster is a no hassle return and they don't point you in the direction of Microsoft for repairs.

If you get a 3 mth warranty from BB, then cane the console in the 3 months and see what happens. If it survives, then i guess you're likely to have received a good console.

If all else fails, you still get extended RROD warranty from MS. (depending on when the original owner bought the console!! . Check the Manufacture date on the console for guidanceas It may have already passed it's 3 years!).

HOT.
#23
asked the man in blockbuster and you get a 12month warrenty with them so if it fails you take it to them not MS! so the warrenty thing aint a prob.... and if you want falcon just ask for a poke around there 'stock' of them and find the one that you want. thats what i just did. though it appears the the littlehampton one has just sold out :( did someone on here buy one????
#24
Pre-owned Tat:!:
#25
I am sure shopto were doing the arcade bundle for around £135 delviered. You get a memory card and a brand new system with hdmi, 3 years warranty and improved reliability. No brainer really. No point in spending £99 on a used one...
#26
unless its for kids ;-) or ur low on funds..... 12mnth warrenty and 360 aint bad in my view!
#27
I would see it as a completely false economy though given you need a memory card to use the system and have no idea of the history of the unit your are buying....
#28
READ you get a mem card ive now got one!
#29
is it not said somewhere that you can get a brand new arcade and gta 4 for £150 from woolworths on tuesday?
#30
still £10 is £10 and they will sell FAST i would imagine

Really ?? I'll be a monkey's uncle if this were true.. Highly doubt it.

Its a good deal for what it is but tbh I would recommend spending a little bit more and getting the shopto deal (if its still on) for £135.00. I've got an original core and have never really had any problems with it but I guess its the luck of the draw.
#33
hhahaha I didnt know hotukdeals had a lot of morons. How can this be hot ?

99 pounds for an old console that will soon die, if its not already died and fixed by microsoft, or worst, has been hacked and then banned from XBL.

Or even worse not even covered by the 3 red lights warrenty for 3 years by MS.

In 24 months I have had 3 repair units sent to me by micrsoft, and 3 from GAME. So i've had 3 consoles, and the 3rd one repaired 3 times.

So when it came back the 3rd time, I only sold it to game, kept the harddrive, and bought the Arcade with 2 years cover for 160+23.99 pounds.

I'm wise enough to know what piece of **** this console is and would only want replacements from GAME. I wouldnt even buy this crapbox online, I want the ability to just replace it fast. Not a chance of getting some **** microsoft refurbs.

Dapunk.
