What is a CLEARANCE stock ?

These products are either ex-display, end of line, or "as new" customer returns. They are complete with all accessories and are fully guaranteed with the manufacturer's warranty. In the unlikely event of your product developing a fault, we will happily repair it or offer a refund. Please note, as many of these items are "one only" offers, there may be occasions when we receive simultaneous multiple orders – we regret that these orders will be dealt with strictly on a first come first served basis. Clearance items may only be purchased on-line using a credit or debit card.

Is this a crazy bargain? Someone help, i'm not in to XBox 360's, but I saw the live TV streaming today from one! and now I want one!!!
#3
Any discount codes for this website. I'm going to get one!!!!

IPTV from Microsoft, I think you have to have a subscription with BT Vision.
http://www.btvision.bt.com/

Going have to wait for Microsoft to update the 360 to support BT Vision.

I was speaking to a Woolworths sales guy, as I wanted to buy some of their old original Xbox stock (which had all sold out!). He said that upto and over Xmas the store had taken an amazing number of 360's back as faulty and the still were not reliable.

So if you are buying a customer return, make sure you know the return policy.

FWIW I cannot confirm his claim and I dont know the percentage of good to bad one sold in his store, but I have read similar things on the web and thought that I would pass it on.

Welcome to HUKD Goldenballs :) Havent seen any discount codes for empiredirect.

Price wise deal is fine but this is a clearance product. Same as with any clearance product such as mobiles, you get a lower price and full 12 months warranty.

Thanks for the other info guys

Well can always phone Microsoft if your 360 is faulty. It does say it comes with full manufacturer warranty.

I'v had 2 - one from dabs & one from woolies both with significant problems.
Was a big fuss to get woolies to refund too.. had to call customer services and threaten a law suit. Cost a few people their jobs for trying to deny my SOGA rights. Kept trying to fob me off with calling microsoft.
Got there in the end though.

Thanks for the welcome.

With the 12 month microsoft warranty, are repairs/replacements free, or is there a charge?
#11
1 Year Parts & Labour warranty, I beleive :)
#12
And my friend's experience is that the MS service is pretty good. You're within your rights to demand action from the retailer, but MS do a good job, so you might as well go there if there's a problem.

hmm.... maybe i should wait until i find someone for staff discount @ comet :S

you will need a memory card at least yes.

I personally wouldn't bother with the Core system... as the wireless controller is a must (£30) and then you've got to get a memory card (£15)... making this deal around £200 with PGR3. Considering you can pick 2nd hand ones up off eBay for £200-£230 (on a good day with games too). But if you're on a very tight budget them good deal...

Also, the MS warranty is excellent. Friend had a problem with his 11 month old 360 (wouldn't load) and MS sent him a brand new system.
#20
you can get a new one from currys for £199 less any discounts...
#21
Personally I won't buy it, for product like xbox 360 which is definitly not the end of production. So it must be used and returned. I have purchased a Camera D50 from them, it is a clearance product.....and the camera came without the battery....and I have to pay the postage to returen the camera (and their returen policy is a little complicated)...and You can only get the refund of the camera (the delivery cost me 6.99 pounds). I would suggest people who want this better to pay aditional 20-40 pounds more....you can get a CORE system from boots around 180 pounds by using 10% code (I do not know if there is any at the moment).....
That is my suggestion.

I currently own a 360 and have done since it came out. If i had a spare £170 then i would jump at this bargain. Even though they are clearence, if you have any problems with your 360 just ring up microsoft, their service is probably the best i have ever had. I am oon my fourth 360 because they keep going wrong so the service is excellent and the extend the warranty from when you get the replacement.

Even if you have an accessory that came with the 360 they replace it with a new one if if breaks or is faulty. All you have to do is ring them!

Try getting Sony to do this. They won't be half as helpful I can assure you.
#25
This looks a good deal. Has anyone had anything from empire direct that was in the clearence section? What do you think the condition will be like?
#26
I bought a Sony Receiver and surround speaker packages and i tohught they were brand new, coudln't tell at all that the amp had been opened and the sourround speaker just had the wire wrapped up a bit wildly :)
#27
So the Core is the same as Premium but without HDD, Wireless controller or HD Cables? If i bought all 3 of these at a later date it would be the same as a Premium?

Sounds like a good buy to me!
#28
i would seriously think twice about getting a core system...there's a reason that they are clearance stock i.e they're crap and nobody should buy one

wait till march and get a cheaper premium...imagine not being able to save a game!
#29
well iv ordered one.. i dont usually get far enough in games to save them anyway! heh...
banned#30
All the first 360's have heating problems this is fixed in new 360's supposedly. Sometimes Microsoft will send you a refurbished model, other times a new configed model. The idea is you buy this one then have to send it back they then send you a new 360 that doesn't have heating problems. Beware of the ring of fire

The Core is the same as the Premium just without the Premium hardware/accessories. The console is exactly the same other than that!

If you want to save your games, get a 3rd party memory card!

Maybe you would like to backup this statement with a quote from Microsoft to prove what your saying is not just a rumour. Some first generation 360's did have hardware problems, it is highly unlikely that these Core units are first generation though!

I disagree - a wireless controller isn't a must at all IMHO. Whilst I do enjoy the lack of hassle with the wireless controller, I also have a wired one which I often use and don't notice the difference.

Buying this console plus a memory card would make the total about £170. Plus the buyer gets PGR which is considered to be a very good xbox 360 game.

I don't usually recommend the core system to anyone, but at this price (with another £15 added for saving games - although bear in mind you won't be able to fit a huge number of saved games on there) it's a great deal for someone on a budget / casual gamer or someone who will buy the HDD later.

Yes I agree. I have a 1st generation xbox 360 and have never had any problems with it.

Yes I know there were problems with the 1st generation xbox 360s but one should take note of the following: -

i) Microsoft have done a splendid job of sorting people with new consoles (on more than one instance in some cases)

ii) People will of course post their bad experiences on online forums, so generating bad publicity. Very few people bother to post a comment saying that all is well and they have had no problems with their xbox 360 - so this tends to prejudice the whole picture against microsoft.
#34
I have an original 360.. never had a fault. So I wouldnt start quoting "all".

The premium is worth the extra if you are going online. If you just plan to be a casual gamer, and have an SD TV, then the core is fine if you can nab a bargain.
The premium is definitely a better buy tho if you need the extras.

Trying to decide if I should cancel my backordered wii and get this console instead. Just ordered a 32" LCD which supports HD and think a 360 would be much better for it.

LOL. I would go for the 360 without any question. :whistling:

To be honest (I have a Wii) it is a bit too early for this console, once it has been out for 6-8 months and has a ton of games it will be a great buy. At the moment the lack of games for the system is a bit of a pain!

Back on-topic though:

It is £290 for a Premium Console from Play, this is what you get.

* Includes Project Gotham Racing 3 game
* Includes XBox 360 Live Arcade game
* Includes 20GB Hard Drive
* Includes 2 Wireless Controllers
* Includes Headset - Voice Communicator
* Includes Component HD AV Cable (with SCART adaptor)

The only thing most people will need from the above, is maybe Component cables and a Hard Drive. That is around £80 (estimate) - so this console comes in at over £50 cheaper than Plays Premium, you don't have the wireless controllers, or the headset/silver Live subscription.

But to be quite honest - if your on a budget it or are not interest in wireless controllers, I do not see why this Core bundle is not a great deal.

Honestly, Premium vs. Core at the usual prices is a no brainer - the Premium always wins. But the Core at this clearance price is a damn good deal.
#38
Yes - if you want to use the core with a HD TV you'll need the HD cable or VGA cable (the standard one with the core only does low def) but you can get 3rd party ones for about a tenner.
#39
Never had a problem with the xbox 360, its the business, I converted from playstation 2, there is a lot of loyalty to ps2. Don't knock until you have tried it.

Accooridng to Nintendo Chairmen, anyone thinking of buying a PS3 should buy a xbox 360 as the gaming quality / picture quality shall very similiar and with the spare cash by a Wii for the family entertainment. 2 for 1.

XBOX live is amazing and anyone considering jumping in should not be disappointed.
