defenitely, better chipset, les likely RROD
#11
Two important questions imo: Does it have an HDMI port and does it come with a controller?

However, I assume there's no way to tell. :'(
#12
Very tempted by this as getting fed up with the Playstation Network being down!
Almost bought a deal Game had at the weekend, Xbox 360 250gb with Kinect and Kinect Adventures, 2 year warranty for £175 (preowned). Plus £30 for a years Xbox live.

Core model doesn't have HDMI and comes with a wired controller. the chipset it uses will also be prone to RRoD (don't worry too much about RRoD on any model other than the early xbox 360s, which these core models are, along with the 20gb "Pros")

more info on differences between versions here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360#Comparison_of_features

You'd probably be better off getting the arcade linked above, or the arcade+a copy of fifa 11 for a little more (with the option of flogging fifa to bring the price down...)

I literally just bought an arcade off ebay, whats the cheapest way to get a hard drive, I think the offer they were doing has run out (super cheap HHD directly from MS)
#15
Seems early arcades missed out on the Jasper ting according to that wiki page.

If they just made it plain what the memory was we'd have a better idea whats in the box.

The Xbox 360 Arcade[58] replaced the "Xbox 360 Core" as the entry level Xbox 360 on October 23, 2007, while retaining the Core's price of US$279.99.[59] It was publicly revealed by Microsoft's president of Entertainment Devices division Robbie Bach to the Financial Times on October 18, 2007,[60] and officially announced on October 22, 2007,[24] although it was available in stores far earlier.[58] It included a wireless controller, composite AV cable, HDMI 1.2 output, a 256 MB memory unit and 5 Xbox Live Arcade titles:[61] Like its predecessor the "Core", it did not include a hard disk drive, which is required for Xbox software backwards compatibility. In Autumn (Fall) 2008, with the introduction of the Jasper motherboard revision, the memory unit was removed from the package and replaced with an 256 MB internal memory chip.[63] This was later upgraded to a 512 MB chip in Summer 2009.[64]

All Game say is

Please note: Xbox 360 Arcade pre-owned consoles may come with either a 256mb memory unit (pictured), 512 mb of internal memory, or no memory at all.

Don't touch any off these they have been repaired multi times from Game I have purchased a few consoles from Game and Gamestation they have labels inside showing repairs done also has there own non ms tamper stickers.
#17
For £40 more, you can get the Elite with 120gb HD and Red Dead Redemption. A better deal in my opinion. I'm assuming its with a controller and I think it should have the HDMI port some are looking for.
#18
Don't buy, it will break down.

If it was £30 then fine, cheap gaming, but this will break down very quickly (it's probably been repaired three or more times, if so you can give it a month)

If you wanna get quality gaming for cheap, you can get a ps2 with at least 10 good games at this price!

It's best to spend the extra Tenner to get an arcade, or £35 more to get an elite.
#19
there is no HDMI but it will run HD component letting you play in 720p you might want 1080p but there are very few 1080p games anyway it will not make a difference

if you need a hard drive your better off spending £10 more and getting the premium pre owned

Purchase a console with the Falcon or Jasper motherboard - Arcade SKU.
Much less likely to run into any problems.
#23
so it would be better to get the arcade version rather than the core? will it note what motherboard it has inside?

If it did 'break down' it has a year warranty so will be replaced anyway, £59.99 for an Xbox 360 is good cheap gaming. If your worried about it breaking down just sell as the years warranty runs out and grab another one afterwards with another years warranty ;-). By then you can probably pick up cheap xbox 360 slim's..

Also if it doesn't have HDMI, the component cable can do full 1080P. Also the Xbox 360 VGA cable can output 1080P as 1920 x 1080, some people still prefer VGA over HDMI as the image is 1.1 or something?

Good price and have voted hot. But me persoanly if I where to buy this. I would pay the extra £10 to get the arcade version http://www.game.co.uk/Consoles/Xbox-360/Xbox-360-Arcade-Console/~r332927/?d=1z13fvgZ1z13mmvZ689.

The Arcade version comes with the HDMI port and a wireless controller. Also there is a chance you will get a Jaspa console. Plus you might also get a memory card with that one. Plus you might also get that arcade disc witch has some XBLA games on there.

I bought this deal a while ago or something simular and mine works fine, I also bought the extended warranty which costs about 20 in know more money but not an issue if breaks down I next 3 years as will be repaired freer of charge so plenty of use out of it for £80ish

Also worth looking what offer they have on new titles, I got toy story 3 when it first came out for £20 which I played for a month then sold for more :)

Ohh and if you go instore you can ask to see them and ask them for hdmi version ;) If they have one on store

You wasted your money with the extended warranty its not with the store you purchased it from it's insurance company which you have to deal with and not very straight forward dealing with them.

It's not worth paying extra for the arcade all units are refurbs that have been opened so they carry no ms warranty and most likely have had repairs done by game/gamestation I would suggest staying clear of them this is from my own experience and friends who work for the game group.

Stores prices cost more then online by £20-30 for consoles.

I know you have to send console off to be repaired, but wasn't issue in past with wii (even when returned and issue was my daughter had posted jigsaw bits inside the cd drive!!)

So with young children and high chance of rod I don't think waste of money. May take time but they send pre payment slip so doesn't cost to send back and only took approx 1 week!!
