True, Dolby 5.1 Channel Surround Sound: Gamers use visual and audio cues to help them excel in high-intensity gameplay. The X4 Dolby Headphone technology recreates positional audio that can only otherwise be achieved with a true 5.1 speaker system - so even though you're wearing headphones, you can actually hear enemies as they sneak up behind you, bullets fly by your head and other 3D sound cues in the game.
Dolby Pro Logic II: The X4 also decodes Dolby Pro Logic II signals and expands stereo signals into a wider sound field that seems to originate from outside of the headphones. So it even improves the sound of games and audio sources (such as music) that might not have Dolby Digital soundtracks.
Game Audio + Xbox LIVE Chat: Traditional, single-ear headsets place the Xbox LIVE chat conversation in one ear, degrading the game audio into a mono experience with the other ear. The Ear Force X4 mixes game audio and Xbox LIVE communication in the headphones, so you can hear the game in surround sound while chatting online. Separate volume controls allow you to independently set the game and chat levels.
Premium Sound: While most headphones utilise 40mm speaker drivers, the X4 Headphones are designed for premium sound with oversized, high-fidelity, 50mm drivers powered by low distortion DC-coupled amplifiers that deliver smooth, deep rich bass sounds and crisp high frequencies to make game sounds come alive.
Chat Boost Dynamic Talkback Expander: The headphones automatically adjust Xbox LIVE chat levels during loud game moments, so chat from teammates isn't lost in exciting parts of the gameplay. When the game volume quiets down, the chat level smoothly returns to the normal volume setting.
Comfortable for long-play sessions: The X4 Headphones are lightweight, with large, deep, soft ear cushions that are easy on your ears, so you can play for hours with no discomfort.

Majnu - people are probably voting this cold because they know sod all about surround sound headphones....

There aren't many that take optical input and are surround sound. There are sharkoon/tritons which are wired. Sony do a wireless one about this price but has no mike.

£124 is expensive for headphones but I use my philips ones all the time on the xbox....and I can have it as loud as I like without disturbing the kids

Good price, voted hot.

What numpty voted this cold? It's great why they never give reasons why.

I have the X1s. I'll prob get the X4s when I have money, or a job :-D

I agree with your comments. But this is the cheapest place for people looking to buy X4's. Yes there are wired versions, Tritton and Astro but then they are a considerable amount more. These products are really for audiophiles who are into gaming/home cinema. Whilst these are expensive, they are cheaper than Play and Limexb360 where people go to buy these from.

I just thought even though Play have no stock and looking at the reveiws there they are highly rated, powerplay is an alternative shop.

£123.47 for headphones?

These are things you put on your head to listen to music or play games and they're £123.47? Madness! I don't call this a hot deal, especially not after more than 30 years of listening to Motorhead!

How to lose all credability in one sentence, demonstrated perfectly.:-D

Can find the x1s for £42 delivered. Do these sound £80 better?
#7
Surround sound headphones actually make a difference in online FPS in my opinion - many a time I've been accused of hacking because I spun around after hearing footsteps behind me.

Then again, mine cost £15 I think...

Can't say if they are better as I have never owned the X1's to do a comparisson. But here's a link with the differences between the turtle beach range.

Ear Force X4 - Wireless headphones integrate Dolby® 5.1 surround sound game audio with Xbox Live chat and a unique set of features to enhance the Xbox gaming experience. Also they have a 50mm speaker size compared to the X1's 40mm.

The X1s are pretty damn good positioning wise for a stereo headset imo.

I had a pair of Thomsoms and whilst you can hear everything the X1s just blow them out the window. The clarity and positioning is well worth the £40 price tag.

Of course the best thing about these headsets is you can blast them up so you can heasr every little detail and your family can still sleep at night, or during the day. Or whenever they like sleep.

Anyone with a good setup and someone that likes to get the most out of their games should own a pair of X4s or similar.

I can't believe these are still cold. I hate idiots :whistling:

Dude! It's £123 for headphones!

It's for this reason I stopped reading Home Cinema Choice magazine as they recommend speakers sets for £6,000, £12,000 for a budget home cinema amp, £5,000 on a TV etc. This maybe OK for premiership footballers (most of whom really are idiots) but not for a majority of people who have realistic budgets.

£123 for headphones is, in my opinion, not a hot deal. Anyway, whaddya wanna play FPS games on a 360 for anyway? WSAD + Mouse FTW!

just ordered 4 sets for the family

The X1s are stereo only not surround sound, they are wired and don't take optical input (I think) whilst the x4s are wireless and surround sound.

The surround sound does make a difference in gaming (on COD3 you can hear footsteps the other side of the wall and behind you) but the surround effect is less than using conventional surround sound speakers.

It is true that KBM is far superior to joypad, But I am a recent convert to playing fps games on consoles mainly for the ability to sit in my leather recliner (though if I wanna play well I find I have to sit up straight on the edge of the seat which kinda negates the comfort.) and also the ability to pump dts sound through my home theatre and play it on my television which offers a far bigger screen and more theatre to the occasion. Plus with a ps3 version of UT3 and the pcxspeedplus mod you don't have to suffer annoyingly slow gameplay either (plus the ps3 can use KBM).

What annoys me about these headphones (well not the headphones as such more the 360's poor design) Is that you can't connect these trough the optical port and then hook up your 360 via HDMI without spending £20+ on a MS official adapter thing. And I know I can still hook up my 360 via component cable but that is how my wii is connected.
actually just found a 3rd party peripheral on here that does the job of the ms adapter for £17 cheaper, shouldn't have been needed in the first place if the 360's designers did their job first time round but I am happier with the situation now.

Voted hot because I may buy them to connect to my bedroom ps3 to make up for the poor speakers on bedroom tv, and can't find much cheaper for what they can do.

My mate got a pair of these and he thinks they are well decent.

Only problem is that sometimes he is a bit muffled when speaking over xbox live.

Expensive but if your in the market for this kind of product then it could be for you.

I'd like to see that price drop below 3 figures before i considered them.

So, my xbox is connected to my amp via hdmi.

Could I connect these X4's via the optical out on my amp and still receive surround?

Also on a different note I have another question.

How can these be surround headphones? They have only 2 speakers right. So all they are doing is converting the incoming 6 channels of sound into the 2 stereo speakers.

Exactly the same as what my amp is doing, when it receives the sound via hdmi and sends it to a pair of lets say X1's.

Am I missing something here, I think I probably am.

If you are after some X4's then this is a good deal. I bought some recently and they are great if you don't want to wake the family at night. They do stereo analogue audio into Pro Logic 2 so I can also use them for my V+Box using the phono outputs.

The surround effect is created by using electronic trickery to give you 5.1 through the stereo speakers. They also have the double D symbol and are certified Dolby 5.1 - kit has to meet certain standards of audio quality to be allowed to use the symbol.

My only criticism is that they use infra red technology to transmit to the headphones and it's very easy to overload the signal, so you have to take care when setting them up.

I doubt there are many others who have a hdmi in port on their amp since until very recently you could not find one of those in the sub £500 price range. The reason why I was annoyed is that an optical port is not some kind of bleeding edge technology, it has been standard on many dvd players for years (including the 8 year old ps2) It should've been placed on the system itself especially since the introduction of downloadable video content on xbox live.

You really don't know what you're talking about do you?

What difference does it make how much a set of headphones are? I guess because you're god you decide what is and isn't too expensive for a set of gamign headphones.

The features and the experience these "headphones" offer is imo better than what a digital sound system will offer you.

Now how much will one of the cost you? £200+, plus a microphone for chat + ****** off neighbours.

You're a plonker.
