What? No Halo 3 360 edition at Game.
#2
not really a hot deal seeing the price is subject to change when it gets confirmed.

Didn't vote either way..

Hi,looks nice, does anybody know if you will be able to buy these bigger harddrives for your standard xbox ? and does the original 360 do true 1080P ?
#4
Is it really worth the Extra £100 for a black casing and the HDMI port?
#5
Well MS are launching their HD movie service soon for Europe. So the bigger hard drive helps.
#6
120GB HDD as well.

I think it comes with a HD-DVD drive which explains the price increase.
#8
No it doesn't, it's the same as the US version.

I thought it was just a regular dvd drive?
#10
its just a shame that they didn't include a hd dvd drive built in, that would have sold me it.

Existing 360 is 1080p capable via component according to the latest software update.. but hdmi would prob give a better connection.

Hard drive should be available seperatley too, going by the fact it is in other regions.
#11
Not a bad price. Still £50 cheaper than PS3 (assuming Sony reduce it to £379).

Not a deal though. Suppose you could buy and ebay it some fanboy sucker.

There is a thread in misc about the nex Xbox 360 Elite, it may be an idea to discuss the machine and specs there. I mean here.

are they pre-ordering in shops?
#16
Voted cold as you're just going to be paying RRP - don't think there'll be any lack of supply come August. In my personal oppinion the mjor benefit of this release will be that it will hopefully cement an official price cut in the premium model.

as per all new consoles, it appears that the best deals maybe had on the catalogue websites using the 20% off for new customers codes and going through quidco.

not voted either way. i have an xbox360 and do not feel the urge to buy the same thing again but in black for an extra £100.

People should remember the Elite doesn't resolve reliability issues (probably) its based on the same generation of pcb as earlier models but revised to give out a hdmi signal. The newer generation 360s won't be out til next year I believe and they will be a radical re-engineering using the latest processor technnology. 65nm process instead of 90nm I think. Really the Elite should just replace the premium at no extra cost.

Reliable or not, MS has just increased the warranty period from 1 year to 3 years :)

Love the xbox games, but is this any quieter than the original? HDMI is a plus :)

No quieter than other 360's as uses same components and DVD drives - you may get a BENQ quiet drive but then again may not (but you could do in a normal 360).

I would rather go for a VGA cable for £10-£20 as this gives the same digital connection and frame rate as the HDMI cable does - only issue is a slight bug fix may need to be applied for some games (Live Update or game update can get this), also audio is plugged in separate (but can use Optical Audio connection for 5.1 DTS etc).

Got it setup on mine and looks better than Component :)

All we can hope is the extra heatsink is being installed to stop the 3 Red Light failure and other fixes!?!

All 360's my friend have 3 years warranty for the failed 3 Lights issues, all other issues are only standard 1 year warranty!

The motherboard has been changed more than just giving out HDMI - that would be fairly simple, there have been changes made to prevent the heating problems. The CPU and GPU mount is now epoxied on to prevent the PCB warping although only time will tell if the changes are effective.

No it covers all Xboxes, I believe you should get a refund if you've paid for repairs due to a red ring of death fault.

Just to clarify an earlier point.

Both the current 360's and the elite can play games/dvd's at 1080p.

However on the current 360's you can only upscale to 1080p over VGA not over component due to licensing issues.

The elite of course will run games and upscale dvd's to 1080p

You still have to buy the additional hd-dvd player if you want to watch hd-dvd's (which is brilliant purchase if you ask me)

However I have not heard anything yet about a black hd-dvd add-on to match the console.

The 120gb hard drive will be available separately (see play asia - available 12/07) if you need the extra space.

In summary only upgrade if you use your 360 as a dvd player and you want to use hdmi as you dont have vga. Or if you want your 360 to match your SkyHD/TV Drive box
#28
They should've just added a quieter drive in it, i mean the xbox 360 one is really loud.

Newer premiums should have a quieter drive, plus one of the recent dashboard updates seems to keep the standard drive a a bit quieter as well as it slows down more rather than spinning at full pelt the whole time when it wasn't needed.

£330 for a XBox?!
#33
I always find it interesting that Microsoft get press and articles about the xbox / 360 when there is any problems and yet everyone seems to of magically forgotten how badly Sony screwed us all last generation with the playstation 2.

Although the 'red ring of death' is something that it seems every 360 owner has either experienced or had a friend that has gone through, during ps2 ownership I went through about 3 lasers and didn't know a single ps2 owner that didn't have disc read errors. Sony didn't even do the honest thing either and denied it the whole time!

Bit off topic though!

I was talking in general rather than specifically, interestingly though I have seen a few Elites on some auction sites that are listed as Pal and a lot cheaper than this pre-order price.. so Id recommend holding off for now!
#36
another thing worth noting is that anyone interested in the elite may actually want the halo 3 edition 360
http://www.spong.com/news/h/a/halo3first246462l.jpg

Which has already been stated as having a hdmi connection, so should be an elite
#37
where is that available from

Should be out in September to tie in with the halo 3 launch, there bound to announce more details about it at e3 though.. which is going on at the moment.

My PS2 (I got it the day after it was launched) never had any faults, errors or anything like that. It was 100% reliable. Given the amount of them sold I suspect plenty were just like mine. If the 360 had sold 50m odd consoles everyman and his dog would have heard of the overheating issues with them.
#40
A few years ago when the ps2 came out generally sony were tuning their dvd products so that they wouldn't read copied media very well. There were issues with both dvd players and ps2 with regard reading dvd discs. This was by intent rather than poor quality because sony own lots of movie and television production companies. It only lasted for about a year before they realised they were getting a lot more warranty returns because of it and it was costing them. They basically wanted their dvd players to read geniune dvds only but it backfired on them. The general reliability of the ps2 was very good and even the disc reading problem could be easily cured by adjusting the laser to where it should have been set at the time of manufacture. However you needed an oscilloscope to do this properly which most people don't have.
