Don't forget Quidco for an extra 3.5% off !

Great price OnTheBallCity!

Even if you see it as a "regular" £279 premium Xbox 360 with some extra's.

A 120GB Hard Drive and HDMI output is well worth the extra £20.

Voted Hot and rep given.

Where's the £30 voucher code? I could only see a £30 off £400 in the voucher section.

Toys'r Us Still doing the £200 deal??
#8
you can also get the 120gig hard drive on it's own, so if you have a 360 and want the larger drive for the online stuff coming soon, then thats another option.

silly question which may have already been answered but will MS release a HDMI cable as an accessory to use on the original xbox 360s. Just wondering as I have the component output and not sure if this can go up to 1080p?
#16
no there is not HDMI on the current one, just the HD componet one, which looks good enough on the HD telly if you ask me...
#17
So basically MS ripped everyone off with the release of the first console, and now they're adding a HDMI port, cable, bigger hard drive and calling it 'Elite'.

Way to go.

Voted hot nevertheless.

HDMI offers little bonus over VGA or component, it's for people who have tv's which dont accept COMPONENT or VGA over 1080p, the hard drive can be bought seperatly so really they're not ripping off their customers, customers chose to the buy the product when it came out so they can play the games which they still can do.

A company called xcm has a couple of devices that will allow 1080p on the original 360....

http://www.xcm.cc/xcm_1080p_vga_box.htm

http://www.xcm.cc/xcm_1080p_vga_box_connect_to_xbox360.htm

And.............

XCM White 360 HDMI 1080P cable (for regular white Xbox 360)
This cable will be the world first HDMI 1080P cable for Regular Xbox 360,with this cable you can enjoy the digital 1080P output signal on HD TV.

http://www.xcm.cc/xcm_white_360_hdmi_1080p_cable.htm

1080p is only half of the point of HDMI.. the other half, is the ability to do the lossless audio formats which makes 1080p true HD, if your picky about it.

If this is important to you ...get an elite...if not stay with your trusty old white box and upgrade the Hard drive :)

Id like to find out more about this ...as i am sure it is not as simple as that to convert a component signal to HDMI..

If you have music on the hardrive and plug it in you can play the music off the hardrive as if an ipod was plugged in, obviously the format would have to be playable on the 360, .mp3, .wma, .m4a etc...

same for picutres i believe

Depends what you want to use it for...If you want to use it as a storage medium for your 360 ....you cant...but if you just want to store music and video on it and play through your 360 ...yes it is possible :)

nope, this wont work with a normal hard drive, but will for a PSP or Ipod... the thing you use must have a player built in, a normal hard drive wont, there are some you can buy, like media hard drive mass storage thingys, but they cost a lot, and you wouldnt be able to download to them when the HD content comes out on live.
suspended#28
the orginal 360 cant use a proper hdmi cable for the fact it doesnt have a hdmi slot only an av slot so it has to be a converter so hdmi to av, the elite also has a smaller cpu, i think its 50 nano meters or it maybe 60, which will generate less heat so less chance of the 3 rings of death, id personaly buy it if i could afford but i bought a 360 in june wish i waited now.
but id say wait till your orginal 1 dies or sell it, dont get it just for getting it
but great deal so voted hot

Actually, yes, it will. The 360 will see and play back any media on a USB HDD provided it is in one of the formats that the 360 is able to play (forget DivX for example!).
#30
i see, i have a lot of divx movies, and i hoped i could use my xbox360 to play them, but obviously not.... i suppose i use the divx converter?
#31
have tried this before will try it again when i get home, i have 500 gig Mybook and it would not show up on my PS3 or 320 via the USB, my PSP however works on both... gat back to you once tested but im 99.9% sure im right.

have you done it ?

The Elite does not currently use the smaller 65 nanometer chipset.
It is likely that all versions of the 360 will switch over to 65 nanometer at the same time, either later this year or early 2008.

Yeah, have used my WD MyBook Premium in this way before. It's a while since I've doen it but pretty sure that it has to be formatted as FAT32 which is likely why it hasn't worked for you in the past. I suspect you have your drive formatted NTFS due to the partition size restrictions imposed by FAT32.
#34
i shall test mine now

perhaps we should post in my thread, so that we don't hi-jack this thread which is, after all, about the elite

yeah it's NTFS for ISO's so it wont work then, just reading up now on some sites about it... either way it's easier to just connect to the PC with Media player, which is what i do now. as you cant add to the storage on the 360

There are ways of doing this. IMHO the best way is using http://tversity.com/.

This converts pretty much any audio/video format to a format that the 360 can play, real-time over a local area network.

If you have a PC that is up to the job and you don't mind leaving it on to share the videos across from then it is well worth looking in to. This is how I access all of my music (ripped as .FLAC files) and various videos.
#37
use tveristy for the PS3 and Media player for the 360.. got a fair few High def films in WMV format, which look stuning on the 360 + HD TV :)

Here ya go, can do it but wont work on NTFS, so i was 50% right :)

Sorry, yes, should have mentioned that TVersity isn't limited to the 360, it is able to be used with many many devices including 360, PS3, Wii and for those that picked them up recently, the Nokia 770.

A great piece of software, highly recommended.

FYI the cammo green "halo" 360 will have HDMI but with only a 20gb HDD. Dunno about price and it is fugly though.
