I don't know why Argos are doing this £10 cheaper than anyone else - maybe they got the price wrong, but the Xbox 360 HD-DVD add on is £119.99 in their new Catalogue. It doesn't come with the King Kong disc any more (that was an introductory offer that's now expired).

Thought someone might find this useful - finding stock might be a problem for a while though.

Item looks like only avaliable for collection at store, done a quick search on about 9 shops and none have them in stock so they may be very limited

May not come with king Kong HD DVD considering this will be from the second batch

None within 30 miles..........

None anywhere:x

I'm guessing that the stores just haven't received their stocks yet. There's often a delay with new products after the new catalogue is released.

This may be one to keep your eye one and bump back up if anyone sees stock starting to turn up anywhere.
suspended#6
yep, none ANYWHERE, nice price tho, i guess i will prob wait until these are in stock in places and wait for a 10% off currys + 3% quidco or something and get 1 for about £115 ish. could buy a hd-dvd seperately, the pianist is £12.99 delivered, MUCH better than king kong!

shame argos dont do quidco!
#7
i managed to find a store with them, i wont say where until i manage to get me one bearing in mind i posted the play.com deal with king kong before i placed my order and lost out.
#8
you are bloody lucky - i've checked stock pretty much everywhere in London without any luck :-(

Used their text facility to let me know when they have stock in - apparently you receive an sms that you can then respond RESERVE to in order to keep it on hold for you to pick up
#9
Well looking at his username - it must be somewhere in Birmingham.......
#10
im thinking that maybe the pictures on the main topic may not relate to a hd dvd player?
#11
i think the site has been hacked, they are on all the posts
#12
Yeah, i have sent a message to the webmaster, my 3 year old son was behind me when i went on.
#13
Damn ! Just looked at this in work !!!!!!
#14

#15

soooo whats the point of this dvd player, isnt the xbox a hd dvd player anyway?
#18
which is why i have a gmail account just for subscribing to sites, if they get hacked then they can spam as much as they like!
#19
No it's not. This is probably the cheapest and best way to watch Hi-def movies available at the mo. Unfortunately getting hold of a player is virtually impossible!

Just rang Argos - she said they are awaiting stock from the manufacturer - but said she had absolutely no idea when stock was due in and just said to check on the website daily:whistling:

I'm reallly puzzled as to how some people are saying some stores have them in stock!
#21
really, i was under the impression that the xbox 360 gave off a hd picture so therefore played hd dvds, cheers for the clear up
#22
The games are in HD - but it can't play HD-DVD's without this attachment.

This also upscales SD DVD's to near HD quality.

It maybe worth checking, when I checked at GameStation at the weekend I was told that they no longer include the remote control & HD DVD which would explain why the price is lower than expected.

This is WRONG!
Microsoft will always include the remote with the hddvd player, just king kong will be taken out of the future batches!

NOPE!
Common misconception though, for watching movies the 360 is JUST a standard dvd player!
BUT....
The 360 AND the 360 hddvd player, both upscale standard dvd's ONLY when using vga, not component!

I got mine when I was in NYC over Christmas and New Year. Paid £100 delivered to my g/f's US apartment and got King Kong thrown-in. Also purchased a number of HD movies from Buy.com during the Google Checkout promotion, which means I paid about £7 each! :santa:

Definitely worth getting and the cheapest way, by far, into the world of HD-DVD. If you already have an XBox 360 console, it's a no-brainer. If you don't, but wanna play HD-DVD's, go and buy an XBox 360, an HD add-on drive and still save quite a few quid compared to the alternative (Tosh stand-alone player)!

Oh, and just to make you all jealous, I'm probably one of the only people in the UK with access to the XBox Live Video Marketplace where you can download HD movie rentals to the 360! MS haven't launched the UK equivalent service yet and the US service is only supposed to be available to folks in the US. However, I have a US XBox Live account (because I was living in NY for nearly 2 years), so I can see all the good stuff that normal UK peeps can't!

Cheers,
Ian.

Well, EVERYBODY can actually access the usa video marketplace, by making a USA 360 account and buying the USA ms points cards.
Full guide here..... http://wiki.xboxic.com/Circumvent_region_lockout
The list of tv and movies costs here.... http://www.xbox.com/en-US/community/personality/elle/20061120-lightscameraaction.htm

Microsoft were supposed to be blocking the downloads from outside the usa by detetecting you IP address, i am not sure if this is so!

Oh, didn't know that! Seems a LITTLE bit dodgy using a fake address and phone number though! Also, a bit inconvenient purchasing points using codes and the like. I have a proper US address and US credit cards, so it's easy-peasy. Glad that fellow Brits can get access though. HD movie downloads are terribly slow, but that's a complaint echoed by the US lot too. XBox Live is really starting to go places.
#32
Could not be bothered with downloading HD movies on marketplace as you cannot keep them as Microsoft delete them from your hard drive after a certain amount of time so i would rather pay the extra and buy the HD DVD to keep

Your right man, xbox live is DEF going places, take a look at some videos from the recent CES show for whats to come..... http://www.xbox.com/en-US/community/events/ces2007/default.htm?WText.camp=TS1&WText.campSrc=Home
Live on windows, xbox live arcade, AND the one i am interested in most, IPTV, tv over the internet, using your 360 as an dvr, like sky plus!

just want to clear something up on what herby247 said about the HD - DVD add on cannot upscale DVDs via component.....well that is wrong!

accoroding to the magazine xbox 360 world february 2007 edition on page 20, bottom left side of the page it says and i quote "...it'll even upscale your regular DVDs even if you're connected up by component..."

Just wanted everyone to know if they were thinking about buying one...as it is a great buy and can make your DVDs close to Hi Def quality. Thanks:)

DVD's can be upscaled without the use of the HD-DVD drive. You cannot upscale a DVD over componenet due to a CSS rule and to do so you will need a VGA cable to upscale. You can view a HD-DVD in componenet at whatever resolution you have chosen.
#37
hey...thats what i read in the magazine..page number and issue is recorded by me...so i did check my facts before i put my view forward...but you may be right who knows! i agree with dvds can be upscaled without the hd-dvd drive it is through the VGA Cable..but thanks:)

RubberJabber is correct. Component is more than capable but it restricted due to legistations. You can get upscaling DVD players from manufacturers that ignore this rule however, but Microsoft is too much of a big legal target.

It all depends if the 360 is better at upscaling than the processing in your panel anyway, so its better for some, but not for all.

whats this mean!?@?

So with a 360 and the HD-DVD drive what's the best way/connections to get DVDs upscaled and the best quality?

I'll be watching them on a Sony 40" LCD HDTV.
