I would think these will go really quickly, purely for DVD upscaling.

ring dixons... and they check the site and will give you em for £34
#3
this is a great buy for those who want to be able to play any HD-DVD's they may buy, and until blu-ray re-releases all the current HD-DVD titles, then this item and HD-DVD players will still have their uses
#4
11% quidco, 400 reward points, and £3 code so £29 effective cost once points used? (if 1 point =1p?)

that offer expired a month ago

are you sure, that link is still active etc

I don't think so, since you need to buy the player before 31/1/08, and post it before 29/2/08.

I don't have XBox 360, but I think this player can be connect to PC. My question is if it connect to PC or laptop. can it be use to watch HD DVD and DVD?
#16
edit - T&Cs say 31/01/08 end date

As already said above, that offer finished in January.

To some it may seem pointless investing in a dead format, but for this price, some may be interested. Also, once the price of HD-DVD movies plummets, you can get quite a collection for small pounds. Thinks it's a bargain for watching Hi-Def movies.

And there are still HD-DVD's being released. Beowulf being one of them.

#23

#24
Can anyone that has one tell us if it's worth buying as a Dvd upscaler please? :P
#25
great deal. well spotted. despite the failed format.
#26
Great deal, been waiting for them to come down to £39.99. Got the £3 discount and used quidco which has 3% off hardware. Voted hot.

This is just the drive, the upscaling is still performed by the 360 and requires either a VGA or HDMI cable connection so the performance will be identical.

Where the benefit comes in is you're not putting additional wear on the integrated drive when playing DVD's which can help extend the life of your console. Plus, of course, the integrated drive doesn't play DVD's ;-) It can also help cut down on the noise levels as, unlike the main console, this doesn't need a great deal of ventilation so can be put away behind glass or in a drawer to muffle any sound from the drive itself.

Yes, it's old technology. Yes, no more movies are likely to come out on HDDVD. Yes, it's a good price!

Now, big question... Since these are standard USB connections, will this work on a PC? Either way, HDDVD movie prices are likely to fall and fall and fall, so this is a super cheap way of building up a good (and cheap) Hi-Def movie collection to play on your lovely big HD display which is otherwise going to waste (being that many HDTV owners dont have bluray players, and HD Sky only has a handful of channels)

Based on that, heat added...It's 'old' technology, but it's a good price. Little like Atari's ehh? People still buy them...

This comes with the media remote and king kong doesnt it?

The last line of that article says this:

"+Functionality of this is an add on when HD DVD accessory is purcharsed"

Do you think he was being ironic?
#31
Been checking amazon for the last few days waiting for their price to reflect the reduced price in other EU amazon shops (50 euro).

Well i can give up waiting now.

Thanks for the spot.
#32
SO now my question is, where are the HD-DVD bargains ;)
#33
Hey guys,

A mate of mine just picked up one for himself and I at PC World in Bath for £32.50 each.

Online price is still £99.99, but if theres one near you it may be worth checking out.
#34
Yeah I'm not quite sure where the upscaling rumour comes from. I guess 'cause standalone HD-DVD players are good upscalers. But yeah, the 360 will upscale standard DVDs as long as you're using a VGA cable or HDMI (Elite).

I've heard there's some patent regarding upscaling via component which means that wont work. Hell, maybe that's a whole other rumour I've started.....so the torch is passed. :p

and? This drive doesn't change that. I never specified using which connection the 360 upscales, I merely pointed out this isn't necessary for that.
#36
can this be plugged in an used direct with a pc?
#37
Yes it can
#38
Something odd is happening with game online.. just tried to order.. got to the payment page and I can't click the continue button... Thought it was my mac.. so just testing on the PC and the same problem... its impossible to order... is this just me??
#39
Just you mate as I can order fine.
