PS - I know the 5 DVD deal was better - I got that deal - but its over now :(

if anyone is interested, i have a fully boxed one as new, £65 delivered.

Dead format, good idea selling yours off.. sooner or later there will be a blu ray drive for the 360.

I am keeping mine, despite only getting it for xmas. I'll be hoovering up all the (eventually) cheap HD DVDs and will get a blu-ray drive or ps3 when the 'war' is finally over. I see no point at all in spending more money simply to be current.

One of my mates is being a complete tool... taking a big hit on the price of his HD DVDs by flogging them on ebay just to get blu-ray versions of the same films. I get the feeling there's an awful lot of nerds out there doing just the same thing and it's stupid in the extreme!

And unfortunately, this isn't really a great deal anymore since the 5 free DVDs offer is no longer valid. Better waiting til they flog them even cheaper or bring back another free HD DVD offer.

Just a matter of time before these drop to below £50

And it begins....

For this price it's really a no brainer. To be honest after the announcement I considered to flog off my EP30 and just use my PS3 for my HD needs but there's too much out on the format that's not available on Blu Ray. When they eventually do come out on Blu we'll all probably have gotten bored and moved onto another format already.

Regardless of the format war why would anyone want one of these anyway, the Toshiba players offer better features and value plus MS won't be using HDDVD for games. Plus for 260ish quid you can get a PS3 and have the best of both consoles :)

It's a no brainer to pass on something that'll be next to worthless within a year that is. Paramount and Universal will release titles on Blu Ray this year, Indiana Jones 4 is already being prepped for a release on Blu Ray.

And where might u be getting this information from? The movie ain't even out yet. As I've mentioned already by the time Paramount and Universal switch and release all their current catalogue to Blu Ray we probably would have gotten bored and downloaded all our movies..

Dead right, get the Toshiba. Picture quality for this add on drive is not very good.

For Blu-Ray, the PS3 is the only player worth having as the BR standard is not finalised yet (Unlike HD DVD) and it may be the only one that can upgrade the firmware easily.

A HD-DVD drive is an investment at the moment, all HD-DVDs will crash in price once Blu-ray get the last two studios so this is a good deal. Still I paid the same with the 5 free HD-DVDs too ;)

Had to get the quick plug for the PS3 in though didn't you. They're obviously still not flying off the shelves I take it..?

(*sigh*...)

Very good point, even though HD DVD will lose this stupid war it isn't over yet and can see Paramount and Universal releasing HD Movies at least until the end of the year. Blu-Ray will have a very limited lifespan as downloading movies could become the way to buy movies in a few years time.

Putting the hd dvd debate aside for a moment lets talk about the product itself.

Its inferoir to stand alone players and how anyone can seriously watch a film on this device and ignore the noise it makes probably means you're hard of hearing and will always make use of subtitles.

Dead format from what I understand ??

Imagine the heartbreak for those people who bought them off ebay for upwards of £250 when they were hard to get hold of. GUTTING!!!

Not very good? ********! It's cracking quality! And the upscaling is very good too!

The noise is no problem unless you must have the volume down so low you struggle to hear the dialogue anyway. If you have a surround sound setup or just sound coming from boosted speakers then you don't even notice the sound of the drive. It's a quality little add-on for anyone on a budget... though wait til they bring in another free dvd offer or something.

Might be worth waiting a bit before taking the plunge
