Just called them, that offer has now closed. Not only that but the offer (as was noted in that post) was for a USED HD Drive and with 2 films!

Cool - thanks for checking. Other thread needs expiring in that case! :)

Yeah I thought the other thread was suspect/lies.

This would be a top deal, but is now delivery only, and with fairly expensive postage, best to go down gamestation.

Similarly, I just tried about 10 different postcodes from around the country on the Comet site (Outlook contact cards come in handy) and no stores had stock, so it's definitely going to be luck of the draw! Good luck!

Very difficult to get any at Gamestation stores as they have sold out by the looks of it. Best to get it now while you can. The offer above was by the look of it only available at one branch due the managers discretion. Best to get now as knowing how ebay works it wouldn't be surprising to see the price increase when they are no longer available with retailers

Just bagged one from Dunstable.

Got the Hollywood Buzz bundle for £10 too.

i got mine over the weekend from inverness... was there on holiday so was checking all the gamestation and game stores, and got lucky with the inverness one. Had a remote in it as well. I am going to connect it to my PC now. Hopefully in the future will be able to recode the films onto a Blue Ray Disc, once my HD drive goes bust!!! :)

Gamestation told me that IF you're lucky enough to find a store with a new one, it's priced at £24.99 so you won't get it cheaper there. They also said stores won't be getting any more new ones now.
#13
Available in Maidstone, Oxford (Botley Rd), Norwich, Gt Yarmouth and Slough etc.

I've already got one :)

and there are plenty at Gainsborough still.... £19.99 on its own, £24.99 with 2 disks.

Gamestation I mean, not comet.

Its a HD-DVD drive not hard drive

That doesn’t stop it from having dimensions though. :?

Nice if i had a 360 that was alive lol, does anyone use it through a pc?

Not available anywhere in S. Wales... :[

Mamboboy - gotta get to a place to price match instead, I've learned after missing out a few times.

Cheers OP. Just bagged the last one from PC World Newport Road Cardiff who "price matched plus" this for £15.99

yes u can use it with a PC, infact with a few mods, and some software, you can get it to work as an internal drive, its just a regular internal drive (even with standard mounting screws), but uses the IDE connector used with laptop drives. You can find a converter for this online as well, less than £5.

Plus you "can" recode the HD DVD onto a blue ray if and when required (when BR drives become affordable), and when Br discs become as cheap as DVDs. I think its a great way of building up an HD collection, and then migrating it to a different medium at a later stage (there is legality involved, but then who are we kidding). All those people who say that it is a dead format etc etc can spend £14-£18 on blue ray discs!!!
#22
Does that include a remote? And does it work with a PC?
#23
I don't see much point in buying a device for a dead format, but it's not a bad deal.

Tis my plan :) Once I get the ring of death fixed.... :whistling:

Btw Rochdale Gamestation have a fair few HD Dvd players left...pre-owned too.

Use the towel method.
#26
If nothing else this is a cheap external DVD drive for a PC/Laptop or EEE. As my PC is under a desk, I might just get one of these so I can change discs without having to bend over!

I used it on PC whilst my 360 was RROD. Shame I had to watch on a laptop screen, my Panasonic plasma and graphic card wouldn't handshake using DVI.

like i said, its just a dead media, not a format, use your PC to recode it at a later date!! when BR drives and discs are cheaper!!!

I was just waiting for someone to say that. £15.99 for the HD player £2.99 for the HD discs, theres a good point right there.
7thgalaxy

Yes and yes. Comes with the full size media remote.

Use the towel method.
Never ever try that as a repair method. It does more damage than its worth and is only a very temporary fix.
#30
Does these work as stand alone HD-DVD players? I don't have (or want) an X Box machine.

No, you'll need to put it through a 360 or a PC/Media Center...

Neither would my monitor.

However, switching to VGA works fine, and on my screen, it makes no difference that I can see.
banned#33
BTW, I've only ever used it on my PC, even though I have a 360.

The drive is nearly silent too.

I'm tempted to buy one as a back up, in case they dissappear and mine breaks!
#34
I got one on Monday in my local Game store.(Newry) £15 pre owned. but the last one they had.
Also Gamestop guy told me they are selling for about £8.99 (about 10 euro) but only have them in the Henry St Store in dublin

Everywhere sells discs for a dead format at ridiculous knock-down prices, that's the point. I can get a player and a decent selection of HDDVDs for the same price as a couple of BluRay discs. Sometimes the death of a format makes it a more appealing purchase.
#36
Just contacted Comet and they have no stock of this anywhere in the UK :-( The Comet 'click and chat' thing is very good BTW!

Expired me thinks...

I tried for one in Dublin couple of weeks ago and they were sold out and the guy said they aren't expecting anymore. Ended up buying 1 from a user on here as Glasgow chops had none available

Yeah its great... but Today, 14:33 I posted saying it was out of stock for collection - the little "collect at store" option disappeared as I tried to go through checkout. So reading helps too :)

Yes, but now it's not only 'delivery only' as you said at 14:33, it's completely out of stock therefore expired

Though for anyone who missed it, probably worth checking your local Gamestation. Reading still had a few when I checked a couple of weeks ago...
