Yes we know that the format war is over and HD DVD has lost the race, and that the prices for this format are coming down, and now even cheaper than game at just £34.99 delivered. Very good price for the player though. Enjoy :)

Is there a big difference using this on a 26 inch LCD over just a upscaling DVD player?

Please please please stop this waffle. Unless you have been in space for the past month i think everyone on here knows why they are cheap.

Me too. I only ordered off them yesterday and now that it is in the system to be packed it's too late to cancel the thing :( Still I guess after quidco it's only a difference of under £4.

Also a lot of HDDVDs are cheaper than the Bluray equivalent for now, or occasionally better quality version and transfer. I'd much prefer to import at £10 a pop on HDDVD than spend £15+ a disc for Bluray in the UK (I have a PS3 btw as well). ie I recently got Stardust which won't be out for some months on Bluray.

i notice the difference > upscaling does quite a good job but HD will give you the best quality currently available :)
#19
Not wanting to join in the usual argument, but paramount and dreamworks have announced that they will stop releasing HD DVD films in early March, I guess others will follow quickly, if not already, since these were the two remaining companies tied into an exclusive contract with Toshiba.
#20
Cheaper and just as impractical each following day.
#21
Anyone who already purchased from GAME has 28 days to return instore as long as it stays sealed. I plan on keeping mine for about 3 weeks, seeing if the player gets cheaper, seeing if any good films are going about cheap, and then can make my decision on whether to return from there...

You have a specific voting power based on your rep. If you have a VP of 9 when you click hot or gold it goes up or down by 9. If you have 1 it does the same by 1 etc...

I saw it go down 9 in between 2 refreshes that were seconds apart. I could be wrong and it could have been more than 1 person, but ive seen a lot of cold votes with new deals going down 9 autmatically after posting recently.

Well why are you repeating what everyone already knows, Everyone has stopped supporting it including Microsoft
#29
i don't know why people are getting so bent out of shape, this is a good deal

yes we know hd-dvd is 'dead', yes we know toshiba is stopping production, yes we know paramount and dreamworks are ceasing new releases
the fact of the matter is, this is still an HD player for the price of a normal season dvd boxset.
Give it a while and shops will be giving away hd-dvds so why complain?

voted hot, thanks OP

For PCWorld to price match this, do I need to do it through the phone or can I just do a printout and show the staff at my local PCWorld?
#31
It's cold, no matter how cheap it is(unless it's free)
If there was a betamax player listed here for £35, would it be voted hot?
What about a completely new format with no studio or industry support?
#32
just take a printout and you'll be good to go.

well said

So as said before, effectively I'll be getting this for £27? Sounds like a bargain to me. Considering it was £115 plus it'll put less strain on my DVD drive in my 360.
#35
Would people say this is the lowest the player would get for it brand new.

As I am in two minds whether to PC world price match it for £27 or buy this from amazon in the hope for a 30 day price guarantee reduction?.
#36
You can use this via a PC too IIRC.

Comes with an Xbox media remote worth £15 on its own so it's a fantastic deal:thumbsup:
#37
Personally still think it will become cheaper... £19.99 anyone?

That is a pretty useless argument.
These are current technologies, so can't compare with something like the betamax....
And the hd-dvd did have studio support, thats why there are still over 100 movies out for it....

Honestly who would want to watch DVDs with the noise of a 360 running in the background! Like watching a PSP as planes land at Heathrow!
