good deal, i sent away for the hd-dvds a few weeks ago, still waiting....

Shame the newer xboxs did not have the drive as standard, cluters up my TV stand a little.

Voted HOT as this is now the cheapest price around (with the voucher that is)

Got this with the £3 off £30 a few weeks ago.

Sent for my HD-DVD's, just a scan of the box barcode, receipt and application form emailed to the promotion company after they confirmed that was acceptable.

Arrived 8 days later. Boxed and sealed as they would be in the shops.

I'm waiting for the last of them to end on eBay, so looks like £60 back for the HD-DVD's.

And I will use my (3rd) free 3month LoveFilm subscription to rent from their already pretty good HD DVD collection.

So a nice and cheap entry into the world of HD movies !

As HD-DVD is region free at present you are at liberty to import any American discs of your choice and play them successfully on your HD player - something that's not possible with Blu-Ray discs unfortunately.

I agree, for once the choice we get is better than our American counterparts.

Heroes S1 was a special on a single retailer (Walmart I think*) and you couldn't find the players for love nor money in most stores anyway, so it isn't perhaps as great a deal as it seems.

All they need to add is matrix 1 + apollo 13 in the offer and i will buy the hd-dvd

If you don't like the films, just select the latest ones and sell them on. Someone else will buy them.

I made £66 on eBay for the titles I requested, and paid £97 to Game a few weeks ago for the drive.
So it cost me £31 (would have been £29 with this voucher).

And LoveFilm have all the titles offered with the promotion for rental, so with their 3 month free trial you can watch them all for free anyway.

No brainer IMO.

I assume the value of the titles in this promotion will decrease substantially over the period of this promotion as more and more people do this...

I would be very suprised if any HD DVD title sells for less than £10 a pop before the promotion ends (01/2008), what with all the trade buyers/sellers on eBay these days. So even £50 back after £95 spent for an HD DVD drive, still a good deal.

is the 360 HD dvd 1080p? im thinking of getting one for my brother for xmas, but if he already has a ps3 is there any point?
#17
hmmm... pondering this for my media center PC....

for 95 quid, plus the quid co, plus I could probably reclaim another £5 from selling the bundled remote, plus I get 5 movies to watch... it's not a bad deal at all!
#18
the 360 is 1080p via hdmi
#19
Don’t forget also 949 points for your reward card (1000 points equals £2.50 reward).

Any titles in the offer that I should stay clear of?
#20
360 is also 1080p over VGA just not Componant using the HD DVD drive
#21
Note that some screens won't do 1080p or i over anything other than HDMI for "copyright" reasons. HDMI offers encryption between the player and the screen and so can't be used to obtain faithful digital replicas of the movie, which in theory can be done over VGA (although it's analogue). I know my Sony screen won't do 1080p or i over VGA for this reason. Sony are a bit OTT when it comes to copy protection and other consumer restrictions though so other screen manufacturers might not be quite so bad. Basically with sony gear you need to check what restrictions are present as they quite often put in stuff that prevents you from doing legitimate stuff, e.g. copying your own minidiscs that you've recorded yourself, like my voicenotes minidisc that I couldn't copy more than once without messing around due to artificial restrictions.

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/x/xbox360hddvdplayer/hddvdnow/default.htm

would rather have the heroes choice though

ps i like the American choice much better, the thing, darkman, i bet they look fantastic on hd dvd :)

EDIT: and i was right about 5 films and heroes...will wonders ever cease ;)

I got the one with the heroes offer from the US, got a friend to pick it up. Got the HD player, remote, king kong in the box, Heroes season 1 and the store had an offer and got another 2 hddvds free, 300 and departed. Sent him the money via paypal and i think it was £129 or thereabouts. He did the form for me for the 5 free too and he'll send them over when he gets them. So i'll have paid a few extra ££'s for postage but it was still a decent buy.
Quality is very good on it by the way. Going to get a VGA cable as i'm told the picture is a bit better quality.

So in the USA for about $170 you can get the Xbox 360 HD Player plus a free Heroes Season 1 HD DVD set plus 5 free HD DVDs by mail redemption. Can you get both the Heroes set & the 5 free HD DVDs or do you choose which one you want?

kj23

Which store did you friend buy yours from to get King Kong in the box & 300 & Departed free aswell, as I have friends & family in the USA so I will get them to get me one for Xmas, thank-you
#25
It was complicated when i did it. I got all my stuff from best buy, in store only, the heroes season 1 was part of the offer and the 2 free was another offer but you could actually combine them. People were getting free boxsets, some stores weren't doing it since it was such a good deal and strictly speaking a computer error. My friend had to go back for the 2 another day. Then you could mail off for the 5 free which hasn't anything to do with the store you get the player from.
The heroes offer isn't running anymore i dont think, a few other places started doing it after best buy, amazon US for one.
King kong is free in the box, it used to be over here but they dont do it anymore i dont think.
I was kinda lucky, i work for US companies so i know a lot of people over there so just needed someone to do the leg work.
You could still get one for a decent price though maybe.
Not the 360 HD drive but it may be of some use,

Ok so this is probably me being thick! But... We have a media center PC that my husband built but I've looked at the link and it seems like you need an Xbox 360 to use this. Is this the case or can it just be linked to the media center? Thinking of it for hubbies christmas prezzie.

Thanks in advance for any help!!

I just emailed them a scan of the order confirmation email from Game and that was fine.

this one looks like a good deal. I voted it hotty totty. What with the free dvd's and the fact that you can flog them on flea bay, sounds good. Just got to work out how to run it on my pc now as i dont have an xbox360. Apparently its easy to sort out.
