I believe it can be used as a usb drive but not ide.

edit: I might be mistaken, I've just seen pics and even though its a mini ide type connection you can probably buy an adaptor.

So if I buy this drive, I can watch HD DVD films on my PC?
#4
to be safe i would google it mate ^^^
#5
This is a pretty good deal, if i had a hdtv i would. And anyone half technically minded should be able to get it to work on their pc.
#6
from what ive been reading it is just a case of plugging it in and using PowerDVD 6.5. But you will need quite a power pc...eg dual core and good graphics card to run it ok. Also people are having problems with the HDCP...your monitor/tv and graphics need to support it
#7
You need PDVD ultra 7.3, and either a c2d 2ghz+, or an AMD x2 2.5ghz+ to do playback entirely in software. The high requirements are mainly cos of h264 discs, which are a small % of HDDVDs. Those that use VC1, ie the majority of them, use a fair bit less cpu.

If you have a decent graphics card, you can get away with a lot less (and with nvidia 8500/8600 or ati 2400/2600, even less than that). Note you'll need a HDCP graphics card and monitor.

Please do it, because if I have to read another one of your pointless posts again, then I think I might need the easy way out too.

Good deal, £90 for a HD player is a good price! 'specially with 5 Films :)
#23
How much do HD-DVDs (The films) usually retail for?

I'm in two minds about this. 5 films great but by the time I buy any more HD-DVD dedicated players will have dropped in price! (Or even a combo Blu Ray/HD-DVD PC drive I can slot in my media centre PC!)

That'd be a no in my case then. Ah well.

This is a pretty good deal and personally I think the bundled hd-dvd's are pretty good. Ful Metal Jacket is a classic, dreamgirls was Oscar winning, Chronicles of Riddick and Fast and Furious good fun and will be interesting to watch in HD and then there's the explosion scene in Swordfish which nobody can argue is a truly impressive piece of cgi

You can get HD-DVDs on Amazon's disc rental scheme now, which is good. I've only just started using the service and haven't received any HD-DVDs yet as I've got lots of DVDs on my rental list as well, plus of course I started up on the service just as the postal strike hit...

As for "Serenity" being worth watching, I didn't entirely resent the time spent watching it, but I've never been a Buffy The Vampire Slayer fan, and basically that's what it is, a long episode of Buffy with similarly forgettable acting, plots and scenes.

You can sell these dvds and you have a drive for about £45

I’ve just recently got an HD TV (thanks to another great deal on this site) but I’m not sure if I should upgrade the Xbox with the Hd Drive or buy a Ps3 or just hold back until there is a winner of the blue ray – HD-DVD wars!!

HD wars you mean.

HD wars = Blu-ray vs. HD-DVD.
