Not all GS have reduced price yet so make sure they phone one of the stores that has done the price change (Which we know are just Southampton, and Waterlooville so far?)
Nice logic though - but PC world sometimes refuse to pricematch on this big a differance.

Its painful getting any Dixons stores to PM. They don't want to do it plain and simple, and try hard to toss you off so you leave and they keep the margin. No disrespect to original poster

Nice choice of words :p

Yeah too much hassle, they just make you feel stupid for asking in the 1st place.

Voted Hot !
( I love watching the PCworld staff try squirm out of a pricematch !)
#5
don't blame the staff, blame the system

each store has a discount target and if they go above it they get their proverbials kicked , discount is normally only used to sell the extra warranties.

they also don't get commission , and the only perks they get are buying the 97p bargains before we all rush in to get them.
#6
Glad I sold mine on ebay last week
#7
This is a great price but im sure if we all wait a little longer they will be almost giving these away !

as you said hd-dvd is on its way out, it has now lost all its backing from all the major hollywood studios and toshiba

great find heat added

I worked for a DSGi store and my customers never got "tossed off" when asking for price match!
But yeah, no comission so don't blame the poor floor-monkeys.

Realistically you'll be hard pushed to get the match + 10% (at least if you had come to me!) but if PC world is more convienient for you and your nearest gamestation have them in stock (we do call and check) then you will at least get the price match.
#9
is there actually any use for these ? offcially or unoffically ?

OR don't be an idiot, treat the staff member like a human being and remember at the end of the day, they've probably got someone pressuring them. The pricematch policy has so many "get-outs" that you'd be hard pushed to prove them wrong unfortunately.

Respec' !
Last time I did a price match, i had to speak to 3 members of staff before they would do it. They tried every angle to avoid pricematching. They even tried claiming that if a website said 'In Stock, usually ships within 3 working days' That the product is not actually 'in stock' or they would send it right away, so 'we don't have to match that price'.

OR don't have a price match policy if you don't intend to honour it.

Not really both GAME and GS have them, and a fair number too, plus online at game.

"But yeah, no comission so don't blame the poor floor-monkeys." - why should that make any difference?.....if i dont get good customer service then i go elsewhere...thats why i dont shop in currys/comet/other box shifter...seems like alot of others dont either as their shops are nearly always empty....with this attitude its no wonder why

I meant don't accuse the low-end staff members trying to protect their own money when in reality, it doesn't matter to their pay if they do the price-match or not. It's management who will be making them not price match. In summary, don't shoot the messengers

they will just sit in a cupboard even at free a complete waste of money now microsoft says they are no longer producing them

You will also find you cant legaly record them without that persons permission, watchdog also got into trouble about false accusations against dsgi so they have to be careful now after being told to stay away.

Not sure where you get your legal advice from (the internet probably) but there is no criminal law that says you can't take pictures or video record someone without their permission while they are out in public. The only restrictions are the recording of a person doing something which they would reasonably expect to be private for sexual gratification. Public bodies are heavily restricted when recording people (police, council CCTV and security services for example). spotty gimps who go marching into PC World with their camera phone shoved into a poor shop worker's face proclaiming "price match it or I'm going to watchdog" may get kicked out but are perfectly within the law even if they are a little short on self respect.

the lack of respect for sales people on this thread is appalling , if you treat people nicely you tend to get what you want in the end.

don't breach their human rights by filming them just speak to the manager , ask for a pricematch. if they don't do it, just buy it somewhere else.
#28
Picked one up at gamestation today, they had loads. Checked with game next door(as I had some credit) they laughed and said no way GS selling for £39. Went back and showed him the receipt..

AS im sure some of you are aware hd dvds are old school for one simple reason toshiba have anounced that they will stop making the Hd dvd format in march thats why the price has come down asit is in effect old hat
so unless you can afford to buy one just to complete your 360 which some of you will im sure dont buy it will be all about blu ray (sad to say ) i have emailed microsoft and qsked if they will be doing a blu-ray player add on for the xbox 360 from which i have not heard back if i do i will post it ...

If you think im lying im not i have a xbox 360 and wanted the hd dvd player but i shall not now view site below if you want to comfirm what i have written

http://www.pcpro.co.uk/news/168594/toshiba-officially-confirms-end-of-hd-dvd.html

why buy from somewhere else when youve wasted your time and petrol going to a store on the promise of a pricematch only to be fobbed off by the under trained staff saying they are not allowed to do it ? Where is the promise there ? Its their policy but when you try and use it they treat you like your in the wrong for asking ? they will even lie to you and tell you its on the system but not in the stock room in hope that you will just walk away but if you stick to your guns they will usually let you have it especially if they think you have rummbled them, always ask to speak to the manager if you are getting nowhere as he knows if he tell you a pack of lies he could be in big trouble from head office if you complain,If they have a price promise then they should be made to honour it or just abolish it.... Remember the customer is alway right !

Unbelievable, if I spend my time and my fuel going to any shop who have a pricematch policy and they try to worm out of honouring it then why should I not be entitled to try such methods as described previously to get what they are promising with their policy, as said before If they don't want to price match then don't advertise it.

You're all quite right it should be honoured. However the person you're hassling isn't the one who's refusing it to you, so try not to give 'em a hard time.

In the past 4 months I've seen 2 members of staff physically assaulted in Currys, one was over a digital photo frame and the other over a vacuum cleaner. In the case of the vacuum cleaner, it was picked up and thrown in the direction of the 5'4" 19yr old girl and with the photo frame, the customer was stealing the photo frame.

Be nice, be friendly and you'll most probably be pleasently suprised as to what you get in return. Customers who are nice and friendly to me often find themselves having small amounts taken off or whatever freebies I can give them, just because they've been nice. Like most humans, we don't like to reward horrible people, but are often backed into that corner.

I won't hassle staff, it's simply not in my nature. But the bully that comes in and rants and screams and gets mildly abusive often seems to get the best deal because the poor staff just want to get rid of them.

I'm off to PC world with my happy hat on ...

100% ACCURATE ABOVE STATEMENT!
To callused the dsg person, personally i dont CARE about the commison or ANYTHING to do with their own private financial status!
If i am in currys/pc world or dixons i am there as a customer, and i EXPECT to be able to have the price match policy honoured THAT these 3 stores advertise!
I am pretty sure most of the guys n gals from hotukdeals dont go in and say price match that or elese! But they normally have to take measures to PROVE the point that the store is NOT doing what they are advertising!
It's poorly implemented and excecuted in ALL the stores, and the so called demeaning name you have for your fellow colleagues floor-monkeys, are too cocky for their own good, because they do not know their OWN store policies and are shamed into price matching by consumer savvy customers!!
#35
Been to pc world today - they refused to call Gamestation which I find unbeliveable
Then went to another in Coventry only for the manager to say "he had to confirm the price with head office to cover his back as the difference is huge" is this for real??

This is probably why it is possibly better to go to the original vendor with the original deal (Gamestation),

The hassle is avoided and you'll get a good deal.

As opposed to 'begging' @ DSG - with a chance of having to leave the store without the goods because of their refusal to follow their own policies.

They should be hauled in front of the ASA!
#37
Think your right - Manager said he will call me tomorrow to confirm if I can have it at that price but i should get it at 32.50 out of principle

I think you've largely missed the point of everything I've said. When I mentioned the commission thing, it was just a counter the common "oh, they won't do it because it'll effect their commission" line I hear on a regular basis. I not expecting sympathy, but when you spend a long time with a customer suggesting a product that's more suited to their needs only to hear "oh, you're just trying to get me to buy that one to line your pocket" it get's rather infuriating. I actually have a bad tendancy to swap customers from high-margin goods on to ones with lower margins.

I don't know if you've worked in retail, but one thing I can tell you is, the last thing you want when you're pulling in that £5.25 an hour is someone recording you on their mobile phone whilst you're following the orders of the management and getting the flack for it. The concept of people wanting your help, yet equally treating you like muck, seems contrary to human nature to me, however it is rife and something most sales people will have dealt with at least once during the day. I'm sure your parents brought you up to show a little respect to your fellow human being, and whilst yes we do wear the shirt of a money-hungry company, chances are we're not overly joyed about being there. Attacking the little man just seems unnecessary.

Yes, though you are correct, all sales assistants are "too cocky for their own good," as much as all customers are close-minded, ill-informed, ignorant morons

If the member of staff is under-trained, once again, is it their fault? Unlikely; so why are you so intent on giving them a hard time? We all know our store policies, but with outside pressures it isn't always easy to follow them through.

I am not working for DSG at all at the moment so this seems rather frivolous, but if/when I start back up there I invite you to come in and speak to me; I'd be more than willing to help you with any problems.

the pc world in bury is great the second time i have done a pricematch, didnt even need to do much just got the manager who said we do and got assistant to price match
