As seen today in Toys R Us. If, like myself, you have a Comet nearby too, they'll price-match and give you 10% off the difference back, so Comets £99.99 turned into £72.49! PC World do something similar which I think works out even cheaper.

Seen in-store in Shrewsbury Toys R Us.

Double the exposure :).

Now let's see, 20GB for £69.99 or 120GB for £74.99 that's a hard choice to make .

What are TRU thinking....

if i had the Patience, i would camp at tru and watch to see if someone picks up a 20GB. can you imagine the possible gut ache from all the laughter ? lol.

good deal though

More impressive (for me, after getting the hard drive) is the quality of the photo, taken on my lovely new iPhone. :) Looks better than on the actual iPhone!

FYI: The PC World price promise (taken from website today 17/7) if you're claiming at a store on basis of "nearby" Toys R Us is:

"If you find a lower price for the same product and offer, we'll reduce our price by 110% of the difference – even up to 7 days after purchase. This applies to prices offered by retailers within 30 miles of your local PC World store and the UK websites listed below. The competitor must have the item in stock and website prices must include delivery. Single unit purchases only. "

PC World product code 035349 = £89.99 (was £129.99) so £15 dearer, so w/be £1.50 cheaper after any claim, ie £89.99- (£89.99-£74.99)*1.10) = £89.99 - £16.50 = £73.49
Of course if you could find a PC world with it still showing at £129.99 then difference of £55 so £5.50 cheaper.

(If you're planning a website purchase then Toys R Us is included in price comparison but PCW del is £4.95 and no sign of the 120GB on Toys R Us website ?)

Occasionally, there are buyers who think they wont use more than 20GB so might as well save £5 :-D

Great spot, hopefully the one near me has them in at this price

I hate how microsoft restricts a common format (the hard drive) and monopolises it to give it an excuse to make the prices ridiculously high. I bought a 500Gb hard drive a year ago for less than this, and I bet this special "official xbox 360 hard drive" is just a regular PC or laptop hard drive in a case.
#11
Still got the Standard 20 gig and had it in 3 Xbox's over the years... only used 6 gig, and aint even got a clue what the 6 gig is lol..

Never gonna use the 120 gig, unless u wanna store all of your Movies, Games and MP3 collection... if so, purchase an external 500 gig for 56 quid...

And Top Marks to mk-donald for the MATHS Test lol

Word is that the next 360 update coming in the next few months will let you copy games to the hard drive to cut down on noise, drive wear.

Yep, as mentioned here...

http://majornelson.com/archive/2008/07/14/some-of-the-features-in-the-new-xbox-experience-8-person-chat-vga-plus-more.aspx

For anyone else that hasn't heard of the above feature, you will still need to put the game disc in the drive before you start playing. Obviously this is to verify that you own the game. Once that's done it will the loading from the hard drive :)

To ask probably a dumb question but how do you get your old stuff off your existing 20GB hard drive? :?

Thanks for the deal. Thanks for the image too.

What an utterly stupid price setup they have!

Heat and repped.

Not entirely sure I need 120gb.... I have 1tb on my pc (and use it!)... but even with game demos etc... I sitll have 8gb free of my 20gb xbox drive....
#19
I've used around half of my 120GB capacity, mostly filled with marketplace stuff as you'd expect. Looking forward to being having the ability to transfer games and videos (DIVX) to the hard drive when new update is out.

Given that MS sell XBox games online (which are huge), and have an HD movie download service (also huge) and soon you'll be able to install 360 games on the hard drive (every bit as huge) my only concern is that 120GB might not be enough. My 20GB drive is full as it is...

The real solution would be for MS to offer a hard drive add-on that takes standard SATA laptop drives of any size (like the PS3). The hardware's fine for it, it's just the fact that each drive has to be signed, and as a result you're limited in terms of size and model. :(
#21
Thanks, just been into PC World and got them to price match this plus 10% bringing it to just under £70.

Now just need Microsoft to release the new update which allows playing from the HDD and finally get rid of the dvd-drive jet engine noise - HOT! :)
#22
May get this in time for the next update, looks like a damn good deal,

Makes me slightly sick that I bought a 320GB hdd for my ps3 for less than this though.
#23
The next xbox 360 dashboard update is going to make a bigger Hard drive a MUST.

Lots of new options that will be using it.

For example you will be able to instill full games onto you HDD. This will protect the disk (wont always be spinning but will have to be in the drive to play the game) saves on noise too :)

lots of other stuff coming out :) all looks good.
#24
Anyone know when the new 60Gb 360 will be on sale?

Currently, MS are denying rumours that the 60GB SKU is going to be available outside of the states. Give it enough time and I'm sure we'll see something this side of xmas. It will be a shot in the foot for MS if they don't :)

i dont think running the games off the HD are gonna stop it sounding like there is a 747 in your living room.

I can hear the DVD drive just as much as the jet engines :).

Nice price, especially with the next update allowing you to install games fully to the hdd. Sorely tempting but....summer holidays are here and need to watch the cash (or lack of it!)

The dvd drive IS what makes the 360 sound noisy. Go and play a demo off xbox live, that's how quiet the system would be without the dvd drive spinning.

Am liking the sound of this update

The disc drives does make it sound like it's gonna take off.

It isn't.. FFXI takes up half of the free space on a 20GB, demos can take up 1GB each, XBLA games (the whole lot) another large chunk, as well as videos, savegames and other bits, not to mention transferring video files to the hard drive with the next update, and playing off the hard drive (games are between 6 and just under 8GB).

It will - the disc doesn't spin when playing with the new update.

Hi all I don't have a xbox hard drive at the moment I am relying on the two 64mb memory sticks I got.

So is is true this 120gb hard drive is REALLY LOUD? What about the 20GB?

I HATE LOUD DRIVES! :(

They aren't loud, they are 2.5" laptop drives so will make the same amount of noise the average laptop hard drive makes (ie. none!)

What volume do you guys have it on because once ive got it on a reasonable volume i dont hear the fans ur tvs must suck

erm... Theres been no mention of being able to transfer videos or anything other than games to the hdd.
#38
not that hot a deal
i paid less than this for mines on ebay about a month before they launched in the uk
still voted hot though for those who dont trust items shipped from hong kong
#39
I wish they had this on the website...or I lived closer to a store as the nearest one is 60miles away. Could really do with a 120gb hdd. Have used half of my 20gb and with the prospect of loading images of games onto the hard drive....that option is out of the window for me unless I upgrade.
