Very useful piece of kit, as it is also useful as an external dvd drive, for all those netbook owning peeps.
#2
Even better if supplied with the official remote.
#3
Highly doubt it will be lanse.

I got the hdmi cable for the 360 expecting the audio dongle with it. That didn't happen.

They will harvest anything they can and always sell the bare item only.

Yep, I can confirm you get nothing but the bare drive :(

Bought one last time (£20) and you don't even get a psu or usb lead. Does anyone know what I need to connect to my netbook please? PSU? or USB will be sufficient?

Thanks in advance.

absolutely needs the PSU - without it, its nothing more than a paperweight.

Very, very naughty to sell it without the PSU.

HD system is dead; why someone wants to waste their moeny on this, i wonder!!!

I got one of the £20 ones instore a few weeks ago for £15. It came with all the leads, manuals etc.....apart from the remote.

When I queried this, the guy said everything is in there that should be. When I indicated the remote was missing he knocked off £5.

oh no, don't start this again.
#9
sold out unfortunately! CEX are a bit dodgy anyway.
#10
Without a PSU the drive is useless, and getting a compatible PSU will be a hard task as it doesn't use a standard connector.

If you find a Gamestation with one you will get one for 98p, we only had one in my store and it sold the day it was reduced.

Yo, I'm really happy for you, I'ma Let you finish, but if you go to any other hotdeals thread on these external drives you will see the exact same points being made over and over again.

My main use for one of these and probably most other people buying one is to hook them up to a computer without a DVD drive, to use as external drive (as it uses USB). I would say the average price for a normal external DVD drive is about £30 so that is obviously one plus and guess what.......it's also one of the only players that can play HD DVD's for people who want to pick up a few cheap films, but that shouldn't be their primary use. And sometimes they come with a Xbox remote that is worth about £10.

So if your not a geek and don't have a load of old comps lying about without drives in or you don't have a netbook, don't bother with this. I think i am done here.

This is as good of a place as any to point out that Micro$oft's NXE update for the 360 (~13 months ago) partially broke HD-DVD playback.
A significant number of HD-DVDs now suffer from periodic stuttering & loss of HDCP connection.

Prior to the NXE update these issues did not exist. It seems unlikely Micro$oft will expend any effort in fixing this issue.

Still, the drive works great on a PC using PowerDVD 7!
#23
Would I be able to connect this to my pc and watch hd dvd movies through my 1080p monitor thats hooked up to the pc or would I have to have a 360 to watch hd dvd's?

Maybe someone with lots of HD DVD's and an XBOX 360? Or as someone said, to use as an external DVD drive for a netbook or nettop? Just because you can't find an application for an item, doesn't mean no-one else will!
#25
got one at my gamestation for 12 pound something brand new and sealed

If I connect mine to my WDTV (with the custom firmware) will it play MKV files from UDF DVD discs?
