Do you still get the cover from MS, on RROD and E74? I appreciate it won't be from the date you buy this console but on microsofts guess of the age of the console. But MS don't let you transfer (from owner to owner) the warranty do they?

I think there is also quidco aswell.

60gb consoles are HDMI, however it may be a older console with a 60gb hard disk

By using capital letters in that acroynm you're in a way using capital letters unnecessarily, I however did not laugh out loud upon noticing this, it takes something particularly hilarious for me to do that, when someone uses a semi-colon instead of a colon for example!

COLD - DO NOT BUY THIS. My Brother bought one of these and it delivered on Tuesday. Today the console overheated in a well ventilated room and his currently considering his choices. Also the condition of the console isn't that good, i mean a scratch on the disc drive!!

These are Zephy consoles, the first to be manufactured with HDMI - therefore it's just had a 60gb hdd stuck on top :P

Unlucky yes, but you cannot make the assumption all will be as your brothers.

Its a bit of a lucky dip buying preowned, but with the fallback of a guarantee and a low price, its hot.

good deal, great price, 12 months warranty, ordered.

Plus if you do get sent a dodgy one you can take it to the local GAME store in town, swap it over and chose from the best looking pre-owned one in store by using the packing note as your receipt.

i dunno if anyones intrested but i might be selling one which i won on the cokezone so its brandnew all sealed etc - i guess il put it around £145

if anyone is intrested il create a fs/ft:)

I bought one of these for my son and had to take three back before I got one that didn't stink! Seriously!

A great price but make sure you give yours the nose test before you take them home. If they have come from a house full of very heavy smokers (no offence) the smell can seriously contaminate a kids bedroom and the hand controllers made my 4yr old smell like a 20 a day kid!! Not nice.

99.9% of the time I'd agree with you dude, but you're talking about a 360. It will fail.

Think of this deal as buying one on credit with a shorter warranty. It's not a case of "if" it'll die, it's "when". If it dies after the 12 months you'll be charged a minimum of £60.00 for the repair. If you pay for the repair, you get an additional 12 months. If it dies within the 12 months and is repaired without charge, I believe it's something in the region either 3 month warranty extension or 6 months from the date of repair, which ever is the greater (actual numbers might need confirmation).

Buy one that's brand new, which just so happens to be £60.00 more expensive and you've got your 3 year RROD/E74 warranty from the start.

For me the deals cold as in the long term you're not saving any money, just deferring payment.

This is pure 100% unadultered common sense and earns the poster REP

Seriously - you're saving <£60 (because your discount codes would work on a new one ofc.) and you're getting upto 2 years less warranty for your troubles - with the risk of £60+ repair bills on a device which WILL fail (they all do).

Newer machines are also a bit better in reliability terms - and quieter for the most part too - they won't stink - they're not scratched or abused etc. etc.

Cold Deal IMO

It had a 2007 Manufacturing date and it had HDMI, therefore the first consoles to have HDMI were Zephyr ones in 2007

Also my brother's got replaced and they gave him a launch model Xenon console with no HDMI..

 at all the people saying that they WILL fail :0/

Of the 9 people I know that brought a console at launch, years ago, 7 of them are still on the same console, myself included. Now, obviously us 7 people might be incredibly lucky, I grant you,, but still..

Perhaps it's something to do with keeping them out of a dusty environment and not dropkicking them across the room whilst they're playing discs.. :whistling:

I grant you the failure rates were inexcusably high, but saying that all these consoles will fail is a bit much..

I'd personally still pay the extra to have a shiny new one, as opposed to one covered in toddler drool/fag ash/etc! :-D
#36
p.s. preowned consoles at GAME are likely to be systems which have been returned as faulty (GAME exchange faulty-for-new for 12 months in most cases) and repaired (most likely by MS)

A small percentage will be trade-ins but most are going to be 'ex broken' and that's just another reason to avoid them.

I've nothing against warranted pre-owned goods as-a-rule - but 360s are just too flakey to even consider taking one with a less than perfect warranty/history.

Take a peek on any of the better gaming forums - they all have long-running "My 360 died" threads and the majority of users have experienced a failure so I think saying a 360 'WILL' fail is fair enough, the odds are better than 50/50 for sure.

I believe the unofficial failure rate calculators which various gaming sites have run put the failure rate at 60% - a bit higher for early systems, a bit lower for later systems (but spiked for ALL systems by NXE).

Looking after a 360 - keeping it cool, keeping dust at-bay, keeping it horizontal with ventilation underneath - will definately prolong it's life - but they still fail WAY WAY more often than they really ought to (hence why MS offer extended guarantees on key faults no doubt) - oh and some will scratch discs with nothing more than keeping them upright and the vibration of someone walking past!

Buying a pre-owned one is basically buying one someone else may have abused already (although as I've said above - chances are these are 'already repaired at least once' systems).

Get a new one - get it from somewhere which will replace it when it fails - it saves a shitload of trouble later when you can't return it/have no warranty for it.

Hey guys another update, my brother got his console replaced again at GAME because it had no HDMi and they gave him a NEW jasper console (12.1A), now that's customer service for you!!
