Xbox 360 premium clearance £179.97 Asda Dumbarton instore

£179.97 @ George (Asda George)
I was in my local asda and they had one of these for £180, may nationwide if they are clearing old stock. It may be worth a phone, great if you can get a hold of one. Read More

well we have been to 4 different asdas in 4 seperate citys this weekend (not special trips )and all the offers listed on here lately at asda , have been nowhere to be seen , most of these offers seem to be quite local so wouldt advise a special trip without a phone call , we asked about a 360 game that was suposed to have a good discount , they had it ,but scanned at full price ,
But a brilliant offer op if you can get it

Dumbarton is in Scotland near Glasgow btw:thumbsup:

I get my bonus at the end of this month and see the 360 getting lower and lower is tempting.

Will these produce HD quality on a HD tv or is that the elite one?
#4
uber cool price, repped
#5
Why would they clearence premiums - hmmm - unless they are similar to the world cup bundle console that can be found for like £150

yes with the right conectors but not 1080p quality

Sigh, so untrue. You just need a VGA or component cable on a premium for HD quality. 1080i is still HD you know, heck even 720p is. You don't need the elite, the only difference the elite offers is HDMI to 1080p. Unless you're REALLY that much of an hd-phile, then the premium gives you everything you need.

I'm pretty sure the 360 can output 1080p through component as result of a firmware update, thus if your tv uses component as an HD source (the majority do now) then you can get 1080p without the elite :w00t:

the elite graphics are just a little better with the hdmi trust me i have one great deal
#10
1080p only on VGA with standard non-Elite 360

Component on 360 can only do up to 720p

This is my first post however I have been a fan of this site for a while, Soooo
I thought I'd mention that I am checking prices of stuff in the US coz I'm off there in September.

It seems that Microsoft has already cut the price in the U.S of the 360 massively in the last few days. Pound for pound these are usually the same price as the UK. I would expect it's only a matter of days before we get price cuts announced over here.

Hold tight potential 360 buyers....Price drops are on their way soon.
#12
newer premiums have the hdmi but check 1st as most places will carry the older none hdmi models.
#13
Price drops on the 360 are to be announced in the UK real soon, If you don't manage to get this hold tight, they are just about to be reduced massively.

Core - £179.99
Prem - £249.99
Elite - £299.99

Dont see why theyd drop it again

that's strange, I've got my xbox sat here connected via component - running 1080p
#16
1080p is achieved by upscaling the 720p signal during output, apparantly. Can't imagine the cable type will matter. Might be dependant on whether the TV will accept a 1080p signal through Component.

Why would they clearence premiums

No doubt it's due to them being replaced by the "Pro" model, which is basically the same, but with HDMI and a new name
suspended#18
component does do 1080p, premium will have hdmi soon once older stock has been sold out and the price cut happened on last fri or the friday before. best price for premium without special offer codes etc is play.com £229.99.
#19
for the hdmi connection built-in on the newer machine, it say hdmi on the box

Not true, if your TV can do 1080p through component, then the 360 can do it, not many TV's do though, mine does though

With all this talk about HD over component vs. HDMI.. It's also worth noting that most 360 games are 720p upscaled by the 360 to 1080i/1080p.

I've never really understood why people who have HDTV's that only have ~1280x720 resolution still insist on using 1080 modes on video games (which again, on the 360, are mostly upscaled in the first place). You may as well run 720p and be happy that the game you're playing matches the resolution of your TV.

With regard to the deal, it's a good price, voted hot. If your HDTV has a spare component input I see no reason why you'd want to pay the extra for an HDMI capable one.

That is true of a 720p TV but if you have a 1080p native TV then generally you will get a better picture if the xbox outputs at 1080p, rather than the TV upscaling from 720p. Most TV's won't allow this over component.

In the end its all down to your specific TV, some will look better over HDMI. The question you have to ask is whether its worth the extra cash, or wait, to get a HDMI version. If I had an expensive 1080p TV I personally would pay for the elite.

Great price for a great console.

Component is awful though.

If your HD can accept VGA, BUY A VGA CABLE.

Obviously if you have an Elite, or one of the new Premiums with HDMI, and your HD can accept HDMI, then use HDMI.

Simple really.

Basically HDMI is best
VGA is a tiny bit worse
Component is ***** in my experience (depends on the TV though, but its RUBBISH on Samsungs, so blocky).
#25
So much misinformation in this thread.

The 360 can output 1080p via HDMI, Component and VGA

There is no real difference in quality in either, it all depends on your individual TV.
#26
must be due to a new patch then as it didn't use to support component 1080p - did 1080i though

does it still only upscale DVDs via VGA though ?

Somthing must be wrong with YOUR samsung, because component certainly does not look blocky on mine. :?

It was part of the last Fall Dashboard update.

... probably best to wait for the new version of the motherboard chipset to be released. The failure rate on these models is horrendous.

Read this thread before buying:

The cooling issues have been addressed, whether they have been permanently fixed or not only time will tell.

The Falcon chipset won't start filtering through until Xmas, and is pretty irrelevant anyway as the GPU will still be the toasty warm 95nm dies. Also, the only way to find if you have a Falcon set is to open the box up, not really possible is it?
#32
...so, anyone else got this on offer?

I have a Samsung LE40M87 1080p LCD TV and it will except 1080p over VGA or component, and to honest I prefer it over component. Bioshock is truely amazing

Component looks significantly better than VGA on my 42" Samsung plasma, VGA looks slightly washed out, as said Bioshock looks truly magnificent :)

Can't go wrong if you pick one up at this price

great price, i paid £140 for mine second hand on ebay, lol
just to note that the reason the prices of these premiums are going down is because they are clearing old stock for the new generations. I guess alot would already know but the elite is kinda a special edition, they said only like 40k was gunna be avalible, black was the limited edition and the premium and core will then be elites in white, also be cautious about the hardware failure, sure they have 3year warrenty but if you can handle going through there customer services abroad, yes ones that can actuly speak english to me :(
then no worrys

vote hot :)
#37
Just rang my local store, £249 for the premium, £197.97 for the core, are you sure it wasnt the core version?
#38
th 3 year warraty extends to the three rings of death only. if your goes faulty after a year but not TROD then leaving it on might make it goto TROD and a free repair.

there are games planned for the future that will require a hard drive so best not to get a core if you think your gonna stick with it.

in america the boxes are marked hdmi if they have it.

information from podcasts i listen to.

Good deal if you can get it! A few of my friends are on the fence about an xbox and Im pretty sure a price like this would make their minds up.
#40
Just a small gloat, while we're on the subject of 3RLOD. I obtained three faulty xbox 360s for next to nowt as they all had the 3RLOD problem. Called MS and they sent UPS to collect em'. MS fixed them and sent them back all for free. In fact, rather than fix them they actually gave me brand new boxes. Keeping one for me, the rest go on ebay. Tidy profit, and I get a new toy while the missus is happy too!

Would recommend looking out for such deals yourselves. They don't ask how/where you bought them, and no receipts/registration cards needed. Hurrah!
