Hot! £10 better than ChoicesUK

Looks like a good deal and voted hot, but i'm hanging on for the price drop when the Elite comes out
#4
...so your going to wait till november?!

I bought an idential package from play.com in january....(minus crackdown) for £289.99....so in the space of 5 months the only reduce in the package is the crackdown game. I dont think the elite is going to cause that much of a price crash with preimum packages.

Good deal, voted hot.
#5
The price drop will come when the CPU/GPU are both on 65nm, which I believe will be late summer. Last I heard the Elite wasn't going to be released until November (according to HMV I believe) so that will not have a bearing on the price drops in the future.

Great deal, with two of the finest games on the 360 (Gears and Crackdown) PGR3 is also a great racer, so the extra controller will come in handy
#6
The only game i'm waiting for is Halo 3 so i'm in no rush to buy one yet. My wii hopefully will tie me over. Hopefully prices will drop by then as well.

But the stores instead of dropping prices just seem to be adding more games to the deal to keep the console in that price range, which is fine if you want the games, but not if you only want the console only.
#7
this deal is not bad- although i do prefer amazon offer over this as you get to choose your third game for the same price- very tempted to buy another 360

I bought Crackdown in the Play Asia deal, and was dissappointed with it. It's a nice concept, just not executed very well. I kind of completed it without knowing it. It was so short! The main game should have been so much more, the go around assasinating people should just have been a side mission. Very repititve gameplay with hardly any variety.

On the bright side I can't complain, it came free with the Halo 3 beta.

I was going to do that too, but the more I waited the more I realised the prices were only creeping down slowly and the big deals I was hoping for haven't materialised. So I went for the Blockbuster deal posted a few weeks ago after being sorely tempted by the Gamestation one just before. I now realise I should have got one sooner, you really are missing out! Even the OH is really impressed with it and she used to hate the sight of any console! She has even encouraged me to get the wood-look face plate so it fits in with the decor, where as before a console had to be hidden away from view :giggle: . And for me Xbox live is a must for any owner, it just opens up loads of possibilities that never used to be there. Got for it, you won't regret it!

Hi professor,

I'm tempted but my nephew is bringing his console up this weekend and he's staying over for 3 weeks so i'll get to have a good hands on trial. If the nipper is happier with the 360 and willing to part with the wii then i'll pick one up later, i'm sure there will be more deals kicking around. I've got an original xbox as a media centre, a ps1, a gamecube & a wii.

What do you use the hard drive for? Saving progress?
#14
You use the hard drives for save games, music, demos, videos (including films and tv shows if they ever get around to relasing video marketplace here), arcade titles... you name it really.

...yeah and downloading videos, demos. Games from Xbox live Arcade. Storing music. I think it also lets you play Xbox games (I don't think you can without a hard drive as some require an update). And downloadable content for games (Extra maps, themes, weapons, vehicles, modes etc).

Basically, don't get a Core. You'll probably need a hard drive at some point, and in the long term you're saving money.

Bah someone beat me to an explanation. Damn these slow typing fingers of mine.

In my quest to get the premium for £200ish, this could be a good deal.

Sell:

£25 wireless control
£20 Gears of War
£20 Crackdown
£10 Project Gotham Racing 3 game
£10 XBox Live Arcade Unplugged Vol. 1 game

= ~£85

Does this seem plausible?

I do partially agree with you, there's not actually that much to the game but for the price I think it's worth it as I do enjoy the feel of leaping over building and smashing people all over the place.

There is a new update out for the game, (one free, one 800 points) which has some nice additions which might be worth looking at to get some more out of the game.

Great price for this package, I'm tempted to get another 360 for system link but trying to resist...

Are you sure? I went to their website and they don't mention amazon. Rpoints seems to work with amazon but I don't know how much they give you. Can anyone give me some advice since I'm extremely tempted by this deal and want to make the best possible saving without subscribing to the wrong cashback scheme.

Thanks

This is a Play.com deal :|

Excuse my foolishness, I was just about to edit my post. ;)

Quidco.com it's a co-operative, the other cash back sites often give a joining bonus, but they earn off your purchases, quidco you get the whole commission, and even 10p for kelkoo searches (one per day), highly recommended!!

Thanks for the advice Agent, I'm gonna sign up right now.

Love the deal btw. I don't think I can wait any longer. I was holding out for the elite, but the fact that it has not got the smaller chip/hd-drive/release date(!) has pushed me into buying now. Besides, I really want to play the Halo 3 Beta!

Edit;

Quidco.com
Cashback does not apply to console sales, such as Playstations, X-boxes, etc or playtrade items. However all other hardware including console controllers and leads are still valid for cashback.

Oh well, still a good deal and I'm sure I will use quidco for my future purchases.

Don't want/need any of those games :)

Tell me tell me - this really is good value isn't it?

I can't decide what package to buy, but this does have 3 vital 360 games apparently, and with the extra controller it seems great value...
#31
Yeah this is good value. A premium is a must in my opinion. If you buy a core system you'll probably find yourself shelling out for a hard drive somewhere down the line, at which point the core doesn't seem like such a good investment.

As for the games; Gears of War is a must for every 360 owner.
PGR3 is a great arcade style racer. It will keep you occupied til Forza 2 comes out.
Then there's the Halo 3 beta! It's Halo! It's the third installment! It's beta!
Oh and Crackdown, s'ok. Can't moan it's free.

Crackdown is possibly the best game on the system. The one-player mode is a bit short, but it's a fantastic 'sand box' title, and there's a hell of a lot to do. I've had it for a couple of weeks and am only about 10% though the story aspect of the game, as there's so much more to do in the game than just kill the bosses. It's GTA, only better.

Have a look here for a review...

This deal is very good value.
#33
In a weekend I managed to defeat the whole game, and get 4 stars in all attributes except driving (Who drives when you can jump across the map!).

It's in no way better than GTA in my opinion. GTA offers you variety and an actual storyline! In Crackdown you can just regenerate if you die, which kind of takes the whole skill out of the game. It's a decent game, had the potential to be great. I'll give them their dues though for the DLC, it adds some more length to the game.

However I don't believe it is anywhere near the best game out for the system, not even the best sand box title. I enjoyed Saints Row much better; variety, storyline and lots of side missions to keep you occupied. There's also Dead Rising which is also an awesome game, which towers above Crackdown on comedic value alone.

Plus it's not really in the same league as some of the actual top Xbox 360 games:
Gears of War, Guitar Hero 2, Rainbow Six: Vegas and Oblivion.

IGN gave Crackdown an 8
Gamespot gave Crackdown a 7.8

They're not bad scores, just more realistic than what eurogamer gave it. I think Crackdown would not have sold anywhere near as well if it didn't have the Halo 3 beta. Expect ebay to be inundated with copies after the beta.

...Oh wait I'm not on the Gamespot forums :|

Hot Deal! (again)

In a weekend I managed to defeat the whole game.

Two points on this:

1) And you didn't finish Gears of War in 7-8 hours?

2) You didn't defeat the game, you killed all the bosses. There's a massive difference. Like I said, there's much to the game than the bosses, like you know, having fun - which is considerably more interesting than GTA. By the way, 500 agility and 300 hidden orbs in one weekend?

Anyway, you're right, this isn't the place to discuss this, just felt that you were giving it a much harsher ride than it deserves.
#35
1) Yes, but Gears of War was an amazing game. There's no doubting that. It was graphically superb, challenging, and actually had some replay value: Beating it on Hardcore/Insane, collecting all of the COG tags.

The game is extended again by being one of the best games on Xbox Live.

2) What do you define as defeating the game. Yes, I defeated all of the bosses. That IS the game. Should I collect all the agility orbs and hidden orbs? Why? I collected around 350 agility orbs, the agility was already at 4 stars. What incentive have I got to collect the rest? I had around 100 hidden orbs, but yeah I had 4 stars on most attributes. I couldn't be bothered to look anymore.

It's repititive.

I don't know how you can say it's more interesting than GTA; one of the biggest names in the game industry. Games like Crackdown wouldn't be around if it wasn't for GTA.

I'm not being harsh, it's a good game. Just no where near worthy of the statement 'Crackdown is possibly the best game on the system'.
#36
What's the difference between collecting all the COG tags and collecting orbs? Why did you replay on Insane? You killed all of the bosses... Crackdown also has difficulty levels, you know.

If anything, it's more repetitive to get the COG tags as you're playing through the exact same levels, while looking for collecting orbs is by definition going to places you haven't been before. Your first point contradicts the second.

I like Gears of War, it looks nice and has some graphical innovations, but apart from looking nice, it's not a special game and was extremely linear, something Crackdown is not.

If it weren't for Pong or whatever, we wouldn't have GTA. What's the logic in that statement?

ps Crackdown on Live is possibly the most fun I've ever had on Live.

*Breathes*

I don't see where you think you will get with your arguement. It's just a difference of opinion. I don't usually take notice of reviews, I buy games and make my own judgements on them. This is just my judgement. It will never win game of the year.

There's only 30 COG tags to collect, and as you said the levels in Gears of War are quite linear. So it's not the most difficult task. With Crackdown I had to go out of my way to find the orbs, it's not a massive city. But still, I didn't feel the need to spend hours collecting something (that aren't difficult to find, just time consuming) for no reward.

I replayed on insane because I wanted to. I wanted a challenge. Also you get a choice of whether you want to take the left or right paths. I chose the alternate paths to which I had before.

Crackdown I started on the 'Medium' difficulty. I found it was easier to just kick everyone, than use guns. By the end of the first island, strength was at 4 stars and the rest of the game was rather easy. The thought of doing it all again on a harder difficulty just makes me think "Oh I can't be bothered to go around and collect all of those again".

Crackdown isn't linear...
Boss's consisted of:
Jump into stronghold.
Shoot a few gang members in the way.
Get to boss.
Kick. Die.
Repeat.

The city isn't that big, and there is absolutey nothing to do. You can't go in any of the buildings, it's just a big climbing frame. The reason I rushed the game was because there was nothing else to do.

You miss the point. I was saying you can't really criticise GTA it is one of the biggest series in computer games today. It got that way for a reason. It was one of the first sandbox games. It's through their innovation that computer games get pushed forward. They created the benchmarks.

This is just getting pointless now. Crackdown can't be even compared to Gears. Crackdown is basically a next gen platform game. Gears is a shooter, it wouldn't be what it was if it was set in a vast world for you to explore. There was a reason it was made the way it was. But it has one thing Crackdown doesn't. Atmosphere.

*Collapses*

Did anyone who order this get their arcade unplugged disc? A friend ordered it and the disc wasn't in the box, just some instructions. Was it juts play making a mistake on his order? :x
