i imagine you will be able to use the data transfer kit that is already available for current hard drives

Is the HDD size the only difference between the two ?

I believe these newer 60gb models come with a newer (more efficient) chip.

So is it worth selling the old one and getting this? Or will it not make that much difference

Unannounced, but discoverd by an Xbox modder, comes a decreased likelihood of the dreaded Red Ring of Death - a problem that's plagued the Xbox 360. The new models have the memory chips stored on the top of the motherboard, rather than the bottom, which was one contribution to the overheating.

sounds better to me
#8
Yes it was a factor of contribution (the memory chips) but the GPU chips are the main factors. The 60 GB will NOT have jasper in for a while.
#9
By the time jasper comes out, another chipset will be announced, so in that case you'll be waiting forever!
#10
hopefully there'll be some pre-christmas price drops on the elite, as i'd rather get one of them to replace my current 2 year old machine which is showing signs of dying, and MS are saying they'd have to charge me to fix as it's not an RROD issue, the sods.

good price for a 60gb model though, if there's anyone looking to buy a premium with the 65nm cpu, shame the 65nm gpu is still a ways off.

The autumn update is going to allow games to cache some data on the hdd, like the orignal xbox and ps3.

The extra storage will be welcome and should mean our consoles are quieter.

Voted hot.
#12
They need to release one with a quiet fan, not the rocket engine it usually ships with
#13
so whats Jasper and when is he turning up?

The autumn update allows the entire disc to be copied to the HDD. 360's have always had the ability to have games partially install data but due to the core/arcade units MS prevented it at first. The restriction for this was removed about the time of the last autumn update and isnt related to this one. So that means an even bigger need for more storage ;)

I just had mine replaced for free and it wasn't failing with the 3 RRoD.

It had 1 ring lit up and the E74 error (I'm certain it was the GPU as I did get screen glitches)...I told them it was random errors, sometimes 1 ring, sometimes 3, sometimes worked. They said they'd repair it for free...which they did. The slip returned with it said they replaced the Mobo and DVD drive.

Worth a shot.

:)
#17
HOT. I wasn't expecting this until at least Christmas Good find..
#18
excellent find!
#19
The autumn update allows full game installs, But you will still need the disc in the tray to verifyownership. Thatwill make load times faster n the 36o quieter.
#20
1 pence cheaper at Amazon :P

Just dug up:

Xbox 360 "Jasper" rumoured
New hardware design to include smaller chips

Microsoft is apparently working on a new variation of the Xbox 360, codenamed "Jasper," which will include a 65 nanometre ATI graphics chip, and smaller memory chips.

That's according to Dean Takahashi, writing in the San Jose Mercury News, and follows on from the now-released Falcon version which also made small improvements to the internal layout and chip sizes.

The move is likely the result of research into the infamous hardware failures that have plagued the Xbox 360 in the past, and according to Takahashi the 65 nanometre chip "will likely be one of the best things they can do to improve the reliability."

Is it the same chip as in the Elite??

Mine has been back with RROD three times so if its the same 'new' hardware it to is inherently faulty

This is excellent news! I take it this console has the HDMI video output? If so I'm definitely buying one, as I'm sick of swapping the component cables between my Wii and 360.

£200 on a new console, or £10 on a universal component cable.... difficult...
#27
im tempted to return my 360 arcade and get this
#28
so is this one likely to be better than the Elite one but with a smaller HDD ??
#29
anyone know when the 60gb hard drive will be available to buy seperately and who much will it be? i am looking for one for xbox live and the new game loading system as i only have the core and 120gb will be too much. thanks. hot btw
#30
my 20gb is even more worthless now its over 2 years old still not rrod going strong but no hdmi and small hardrive sucks lol
#31
Gutted.

Had loads of Play.com funds and could have used them all to buy one of these, but now have spent them.

I've got a 5% Play code and there's also 4% Quidco on top of that.

Anyone know if there is a better discount combo for this at another retailer?

Are you talking about some kind of component lead switcher? I did look at something like that a while back, but was a bit paranoid about signal quality.

It's the download thing that clinched it really, my 360 is just too loud for the living room.
#34
with play i dont think you can get quidco on consoles

Chip gets hot, heat can't escape because of the board.

I imagine the Jasper is the new Falcon. The Falcon chipset being the last iteration which was meant to address the Overheating problem.

presumably the transfer kits will work as they do with the 120gb at the moment.
#39
Very tempted to buy this, was looking at the £190 for 20GB + 2 games from Toys'R'Us but the bigger HDD is more tempting. Already purchased Halo 3 + Lost Oddysee for £20, and going into town tomorow to find DMC4, Assasins Creed and Mass Effect which should be about £35 pre owned, then want to get Gears Of War, Eternal Sonata, and for about £255 I have a 60GB Console with 7 Games :-D

Can anyone hear the sound of my will weakening and my wallet opening? ;-)
Been waiting for a 360 for a long time, and resisted until now.... and this could be the one. Just need to buy Halo3 and Bioshock for a decent price now....and Zavvi can certainly help with Bioshock.
