Great Deal, Heated

would be a good deal...but 5/6 people i know with a 360 have had theirs die on them with the 'red rings of death'.

avoid n get the PS3 version.
#3
I think these are the Falcon Chipsets with less chance of RROD (Includes Hdmi)

and miss out on the downloadable content MS paid $50M for? I don't think so! :)
#8
Avoid because of the small risk of it dying on you!!! Why do PS3 fanboys feel the need to bring it up so much? Yes it was a huge problem, but it is calming with the new models. I have owned a 360 since launch and it has suffere the RROD once. Even then MS collected it, fixed/replaced it and returned it within 10 working days.

I did own bith consoles up to a few weeks ago (sold 360 to buy new one with HDMI) and the 360 has been used FAR more than the PS3. Don't get me wrong I love the PS3 I think it is great but the 360 is more of a gamers machine for me and at this price with a CLASS A game it is hot!!

I will be placing my order right now, I have been waiting for a deal like this for a while.

Many thanks.
#9
I know its off topic but mine died too....:x

Good deal though, 360 is coming down to a nice price now.... game looks fab too!!!!!

Will be getting PS3 version though (with £7.50 worth of GAME vouchers from the £299 PS3 deal recently to help matters ).

I can confirm (for the benefit of the PS3 fanboy). That the premiums being sold by Play.com are the Falcon Chipset as i received a Premium with Halo3 and Lost Odyssey from them on Friday last week (delivered next day). If it has a manufacture date after Sept and a 175W power supply then they are not prone to the Red Ring of death...

We have both PS3 and Xbox 360 an Wii in the house and I have to say I am far more impressed by the way the 360 sets up at 720p on my monitor than the PS3..

Both great machines but dont make the RROD an issue when the problem has been practically resolved by the new chipset.

Wii is great too by the way :)
#11
My first 360 died too, about a year after buying it, but Microsoft sent me a new one in about 2 or 3 weeks. Quite painless. Plus, I like having a console that has plenty of decent games on, and one with a competent and thriving online presence.

edit - voted hot!

Great deal.

360 version is the one to get for decent online play with live, voice comms and of course the 360 only exclusive episodic content.

People who buy the 360 now dont have to worry anyway about reliability. It has the best warranty in the console business at 3 years and the new chipset has greatly reduced the heat problems and improved the reliability of effected components.

£199 to be able to play gta4 plus its the full version of the console. Absolute bargain. If you want this game and dont have a ps3 or 360 its the cheapest way in by far...

Also thus far the graphics on 360 games have been better on the multi format titles with better frame rates as the are developed for the 360 / pc first as lead platform. Biggest installed base and easiest to develope for. They are then ported to the ps3......

Take a look at Dark Sector looks absolutely amazing on the 360....There is also a much better back catalogue of games on the 360 and more much have "exclusive" aaa titles....

I was JUST looking for a deal on this. Heat and rep added.

Great Price!

I've had my Xbox 360 since launch and wouldn't give it up for anything (also own a Wii & PS3), it had the so called "red ring of death" once (after about 18 months), was replaced free of charge by Microsoft and I was given a further years free cover as part of their $1 billion "apology" scheme.

I've had no problems at all since that time and am going for the 360 version of GTA for the extra missions and goodies. After all, if you're going to get extra content for a title this has surely got to be the game to enjoy it on.

Voted hot & rep given.

Does the Quidco cashback mentioned by the OP work? It says on Quidco that it's not applicable to 360 consoles at Play.com.
#16
Amazing deal!!
#17
Hot Deal.

As a side note though, anyone know how I can get Digital audio out of this, as I'm aware that there are no optical/coax ports?! Any sort of adapters that I can buy?

Cheers.

I wasn't aware of this and have removed it from the deal. I checked quidco quickly and saw no mention but it only tells you that if you log in.

Pretty good deal folks. Had my 360 since about 1 month after lauch - never any problems with the "red rings". The 360/PS3 war will rage for some time to come...hardcore gamers have a need for both - so buy them both.

The component cable which comes with the premium, has a optical output, which is on the connector which plugs into the 360.

I'm a Nintendo fanboy. So I don't give a damn about the PS3 or 360 really. But I'm saying now the 360 reliability has improved a lot and I would say the PS3 is less reliable than the 360 now. Because the PS3 is suffering from the same disc reading problem as the previous Playstations.

If you use component then the plug has an optical port on it, if you use HDMI you will need a HDMI reciever as I don't think you can use optical with the HDMI (you can with the Elite though, it has a seperate dongle).

Thanks very much! Held off from ordering the Halo 3 and Lost Odyssey bundle, incase this deal would come up, so I'm pleased.

Its one use per person only.

Amazing console but i think the Zavvi deal is much better - 3 games and console (falcon) for £210 + 10% discount if you have a virgin card, or a friend who has one, sometimes they even let you pick the 3 games IF your lucky)
#27
decent price, i think last week with halo and lost odyssey was £195 was probably slightly better (sell on)value... though not much in it - as i think you could probably sell Halo 3 + Lost for more than you could sell GTA IV... though i maybe wrong.

haha 'small risk'

http://www.360-gamer.com/news.asp?id=964

^^

61% breaking isnt a 'small risk'.

How the HELL am i a PS3 fanboy? Hasn't it occured to you i might actually have owned a 360 before it died on myself?

I highly, highly doubt Microsoft fixed your 360 and returned it within 10 working days.... Maybe they said it was fixed, THEN returned it in 10 days, but it you're forgetting to mention it takes them ages to actually FIX it.

you seem to be the fanboy
#29
There is no way there is a 60% defect rate even on the original console. I have dozen of friends who own them and only 1 has died. He got his console collect and replaced within a week.

In any event the problems have been fixed on the new consoles and you get a 3 year warranty !

Anyway back on topic, this is an amazing deal you are basically getting a premium console for £160 !

Ubber bargain !
#30
Great price!!
if i didnt already own one i would buy this.

and just for the record, ive had my xbox since launch and its never had the rings of death.
however out of the 4 friends i know who also have xbox 360s, 2 of them have had rings of death so you can draw your own conclusions from that.

dont let that put you off buying though, customer service is great and its covered by the warranty. its also a greatttt console.

Remembering that this is a deal website,

Xbox live : £5 / month
PSN : Free

That is all.

Somebody's mathematical abilities are a little lacking...

Xbox Live if bought at full whack (I don't know anybody who does that!) is £40 a year so £3.33 a month. As I say, most people pay much less, my last 12mth sub was under £30 so £2.50 per month. Damn good value in my opinion!

Back on topic, another nice 360 deal, voted hot. :-D
#33
Great deal imo....why do ps3 fanbois even check a 360 thread :O

Anhoo 360 > Wii > ps2...then ps3 imo. Actually feel sorry for the way sony screwed over ps3 buyers :P

Hmm. More like Sony wishes it was that much for XBL!

XBL: Great service, for which there is a small fee.
PSN: Sh*t service provided for free.

Something important to remember on a deals site: You get what you pay for :whistling:

Know this: If you sell that hunk of junk PS3, you will DEFINITELY be able to afford XBL. Result, eh? :)

The way it see it:

PS3:
Built in Wireless adapter
Blu-ray player
Rechargable controllers
Free online play
Bigger HDD

XBOX 360:
Cheaper
Smaller HDD Size
Better controller (and im a tiny bit of a ps3 fanboy)
Better online service

This is a good price for the 360 but a 40gb PS3 is better value (as stated reasons above). If you want cheap gaming then get 360 but if u want a Blu ray player get PS3.
#37
again why are there ps3 fanboys here on a 360 thread (ive got a core 360 from launch only 1 minor problem and no it wasnt rrod, sent to ms and got it back within a week my cuz got rrod he sent his 360 off and got it back within a week his bro also got rrod and no supprises his 360 only took a week to fix and return but the fact remains the new xbox doesnt get rrod anymore thanks to a motherboard fix)
oh and take not of the above message he spells it out quite clearly if you want to play games get a 360 if you want to watch movies get a ps3 (as thats all its good at MOVIES)

I've had my 360 since launch and have had RROD twice. Latest console is now 6 months old and going strong.
I have a Wii which never gets turned on once the novelty wore off.
the 360 is the best console I've ever owned and Xbox live is a bargain for the service you get (£24 for 13 month)
Played on a friends PS3 and while it's nice and quiet, that's about it, the 360 wins hands down for me.
