Voted Hot,
2 of those games are excellent (especially Forza 2 easily the best all round next gen driving sim) don't know about The Golden Compass never tried it........
#6
Forza and Viva are meh...

Remember that the Premium 360 is previous version of the Pro 360, which it looks like they've included the HDMI port but it includes the older chipsets, which are more tempermental for breakdowns but Microsoft are offering 3 years warranty on the Ring of Death issue, so you're covered but it's just extra hassle to get it replaced.

The bundle itself isn't great, as the Forza, Viva Pinata and extra wireless controller has been bundled with the console for almost a year now and has completely devalued those games, so you could easily buy them for under a tenner each but it looks like they've taken the controller out of the bundle. :(

Golden compass has been thrown in for good meassure because they're clearly struggling to shift them after the hype around it has died down but if these are the games you're looking for, then £189.99 is a pretty good price.

Voted hot.

but officially there is no "pro 360" just premium. The main thing to check is if it has hdmi mentioned in spec, anything else you will have to check at home as that goes for any premium bought online

I'm not sure that's true - some shops say 'Xbox 360 Pro' but most still have it as 'Xbox 360 Premium' i.e. they are exactly the same console. For example look on GAME's website and you won't find any Xbox 360 Pro's.

troll altert!! Musicman in what way is it 2nd rate

games wise if anything it still has the edge on the ps3 (even now with new games, take GTA, its a lower resolution on ps3 and most games are unable to have AA + HDR at the same time due to limitations in the nvdia 7000 based GPU (take rainbow 6), and an inferior controller .

sure the ps3 has its plus points, proper ps3 exclusives are ok, just not enough of them and its a cracking blu-ray player, not to meantion quiet, but purely as a games machine it is NOT 2nd rate compared to the ps3, and the new 360's seem to be better build now as wel lwith the improved chipset.

I see the price of these 2nd rate machines is starting to plumet!

Not a patch on the PS3, but none the less, still a bargain price.

Well thank you for sharing your pearls of wisdom with us, extremely useful and informative. Well done, you really put a lot of thought into that!

Guys, we've seen the 360 vs PS3 / HD vs Blu Ray argument so many times... keep the thread on topic please.

God i want one and have no money!!!! Heat and rep left for ya

I have a 360, I would highly reccomend it at this price.

If you don't have a 360 already then this is a great deal. If you have a PS3, sell it and buy this. You won't be sorry.

My son wants one as well, however I am a bit confused about the HDMI bit of this as it appears to be shipped with a component cable, so does that mean that it is not supplied with an HDMI cable at all? Or do you only get that included in the more expensive Elite version?

If the Xbox360 unit has an HDMI socket - which both 'Premium' designation would suggest and Play.com explicitly state "Includes HDMI Port" - then it is a STANDARD HDMI socket and any HDMI cable will work - a decent 100% functional upto 3m cable is £5, £10 max.

Cheers for the quick reply. Sorry should have said that he wants surround sound as well, so if I understand it all correctly then the Elite version comes supplied with an HDMI cable that has a Toslink connector hub, whereas the Premium is only supplied with a Component cable (with Toslink connector). All 360's with an HDMI connector will work with any HDMI cable but not be able to give you 5.1 surround sound.
Does all that sound about right?
I have researched quickly the 360 HDMI Official cable with the Toslink connector and it seems to retail for about £35, so if he wanted the Premium and this cable then his outlay would be approx. £225 ??

There is, mine says pro on the side of the box.

HDMI, falcon chipset etc.

just thought I'd mention that code gets you £7.50 off a 360 arcade as well.

Can someone confirm that arcades are the new chipset? I believe they are but just wanna check, also if I've an existing hard drive I assume I can just plug it in and go? Wanting to replace my now dead 360 premium and don't see any point in getting another one if an arcade will do the same job.

I got the Elite a couple of months ago on the Zavvi deal with 3 games for £260. They also let me choose the games, so I got Halo 3, PGR4 & Forza 2!

Anyways, when I connected the 360 to my Pioneer Plasma via HDMI - I got a superb picture, but no sound! I had to use the supplied adapter and use a Toslink cable (which was bought separately from Avopro - Fisual 1m for £5-6) to connect up to my Yamaha amp and get 5.1 sound. As the HDMI cable passes both signals i.e. audio and video - check the connections to your TV/Amp and make sure that it will pass the audio from the HDMI port, then you don't need the adapter or the Toslink cable.

are you sure it says all that, didnt think they would say name of chipset on box, are you sure the pro isnt referring to product number / name? have not seen any other 360 box with pro on it, was in gamestop yesterday looking at some of their 360's premium v special halo 3 edition . didn't see that on it, could be a new thing if anyone else wants to verify?

Thanks - The TV passes audio and video through the HDMI connector so I am not worried about that, it is more the 5.1 surround sound side of things that he needs. The Toslink connector is the only way to get 5.1 surround sound from the 360 and as far as I can make out you only get the HDMI cable with the sudio hub supplied with the Elite version of the console.
I think this is correct:
The Premium has HDMI but is not supplied with the HDMI/Toslink cable, to buy one separately costs about £35. It is supplied with a Component/Toslink cable.
The Elite has the HDMI and is supplied with the HDMI/Toslink cable
Can anyone confirm for me if that is indeed correct please.

Okay I've recently bought a Premium & an Elite console (Both new 175w) this year & I've got both boxes beside me now.

Per manual, listing of cable contents In the Premium :

Component HD AV Cable
Ethernet Cable
Power cord /power supply

In the Elite box :
HDMI Audio Adaptor
HDMI AV Cable
Component HD AV Cable
Ethernet Cable
Power Cord / Power Supply

Is it the HDMI audio adaptor you wanted to check ? Looks like the item on right on picture below & this is only in Elite box. I'm not that technical but I can confirm bits if you describe them or provide pictures

sigma - brilliant and thanks for that, you have confirmed for me that the Elite is supplied with the HDMI cable and audio box and that the Premium is not.

Therefore the main difference between the 2 models apart from the above and colour is that you get an 120Gig Hard Drive with the Elite and 20Gig with the Premium.

Hmmmm - What to do?

Not worried about storage space so buy the Premium and then buy the Official HDMI/Audio cable kit for about £35, all in for £225.00 approx of course. (plus my son actually doesn't like the black Elite box he prefers the white Elite - Or is it just me!!!!) :whistling:

Im not very tech minded on this subject starwarsclark

All i know is ive connected my 360 premium to my TV and my home cinema system, works perfectly. On the 360 settings you can choose which sound setting you would like, where your speakers are set up etc. Ill take some pics when i get home.
[mod]#28
Had a look at the Premium manual & it say's that you can connect to a digital audio system but, according to the website, you need to buy a digital toslink cable as you thought ;

ZoLa; I would have thought that you had used the Component cable that comes with the Premium version (3 x plugs on one end; Red, Green, Blue) and then connected the Toslink cable to your Amp.

That is fine but we want to use the HDMI version and Toslink so we will need to get the cable separately to enable us to do that: This cable for example: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Xbox-360-HDMI-Cable-X360/dp/B000VUVCK6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1210942282&sr=8-2

So that together with the Premium console would give us what he wants for about £225 when compared to buying the Elite which is about £250. The Premium with the cable works out about £25 cheaper and you get 3 games as well.

You don't need an 'Official HDMI/Audio Kit'

All you need comes in the box for £189.99

If you get a premium though, you will need to mod the component cable if you want to use HDMI as the video source.

You can use component/RCA with 5.1 surround sound
HDMI and 5.1 requires this little mod...
