Basically you can stream photos, music and movies from your pc to your xbox 360, and your 360 also acts as a media centre extender if you have windows media centre on your pc.

yh well that way your not going to save money and you might as well not be a member of this site then.

its not much of a hassle going to CEX and selling the games.........infact if your buying a console youll need to keep the games anyway.

I think he means if you already have a console that is broken or banned, this is a cheap replacement.

Well, actually it IS a hassle going to some poxy game shop to flog the things you've bought to get the price down.

The poster you quoted was happy with this UKHD deal- why should he/she not be a member apart from not agreeing with you?

I don't really understand the part about selling the games but needing to keep the games anyway.

Voted hot BTW.

how so? the games selection is nowhere near as big and the online service is rubbish

what about ps3s breaking? havent you heard about the yellow light of death? it seems almost as common as the rrod

you get 1 year warranty with a ps3
you get 3 years warranty with an xbox 360 and its around half the price

i know which one i'd rather have if i didnt already have both

Not wanting to send this thread south, but I'd have thought the noise from these make them totally unsuitable as a media streamer.

XD

You mean the same YLOD which Watchdog recently found has affected 0.5% of all PS3's in the UK? The PS3 failure rate is not even comparable to the 360's RROD so don't even go there.

Microsoft give you a 3 year warranty because they have to due to the RROD. It used to be 1 year, but because the problem became so frequent, they were taken to court and the warranty was increased.

From a hardware perspective, there's absolutely no argument that the PS3 is a better piece of kit for the money. The 360 is an inferior piece of hardware which will cost you more in the long run, it's as simple as that.

In terms of games, the point about 'PS3 has no games' is redundant now. I think it's clear for everyone to see that the PS3 now has more, higher rated exclusive titles, than the Xbox 360, and the gap will only increase from now on. You need to remember, quantity doesn't equal quality. If that was the case, the Wii, with all its' shovelware, would therefore have the best games catalogue of the current 'next-gen' systems, and we all know that's not true.

As for the online, both the PSN and XBL are nigh on the same now. Online play is exactly the same, with the PS3 actually topping the 360 in terms of games with dedicated servers. The difference is just a few features such as Cross-Game/Party Chat. And that's it. I'd much rather have a free online service, than have to (you have no choice if you want to play online) pay £40 a year (prices via the 360) to play the games which I've already bought.

I own both the 360 and the PS3, and enjoy them both. They both have their advantages and disadvantages. But if I was in the market for a next-gen system, then the choice would be obvious to me.

I found that the noise level is only an issue if the disk drive is in operation playing a game or a DVD. Provided that you are just streaming from a PC or NAS then the noise is pretty minimal.

Yes. It's the DVD Drive which makes the 360 sound loud.

When you play games which are installed on the hard drive, it's a lot quieter.

ive had a 360 - Noisy piece of machine, its had the RROD (Red ring of death) and the 3yr warranty is only for RROD problem otherwise its a std 1yr

It doesnt look as good as the PS3 Slim or Std PS3.
However onlne play is better on the 360 as you pay membership fees for better stable servers and the 360 does have more games

Graphics wise I think the PS3 just edges it, and games are on a bluray disc - theres talk of games that will be on 2 or 3 DVD DL for the 360 - yet with the PS3 it will be on just one bluray

On the 360 you copy the game to the HDD and play off that for faster loadtimes (still need original in dvd drive)
However the new Jasper XBox 360 consoles that you will end up getting when you buy these should not really suffer from RROD, there quieter DVD roms drives so streaming should be okl
360 controllers feel a lot better grip wise no fingers slipping at crucial moments

Ive got a PS3 for my main streaming machine but the 360 looks like a good price for somehting in the bedroom (yes i will be a 360 again)
I wouldnt say one console is better than the other.

Totally agree with this post. I got my 60gb xbox 360 from tesco @£169.99 with 2 games included in the summer. Also used up all my clubcard points on it which made it just £80.00

I now have both 360 and original 60gb PS3 and find the ps3 great for movies and effortless streaming. However anyone who has tried to set this joke up on the xbox will now what an effort this is. All i can say it is typical microsft flakey set up. Before anyone jumps all over me yes i have set it up with mediacentre in both XP and Vista. 1 day works okay, next day nothing changed and it doesnt. At least the PS3 works every time and in my opinion the xbox only edges the gaming due to the fact that its easier to arrange and find games with friends.

the 360 makes noise full stop. i own one, but i have to say, its the noisiest console i have ever owned, and that’s after using the phat ps2. its even nosier than my hp dx2250 pc. that to say, once you install to hd, it makes a little bit less noise, but it is still noisy, if you want a media pc, your better of getting one of those acer nettops etc.

some 360 have better fans which make less whining noise but the pro 60gb i got this year with jasper chipset has the white delta fans which do make a "whining" noise. Apparently the black elites are a bit quieter if you get the Nidec fans, if your lucky.

i am waiting for the rumoured slim 360, if that ever comes out, i snapped it up like a flash if it makes less noise. not gonna bother with the ps3, just one game i like gt5. the 360 and ps2 will tie me over till the next xbox 720 / ps4.

also i would make sure these are the jasper 150 w versions, no point getting if sainsburys are trying to flog old stock with 175w power supplies.

lastly the 360 beats the ps3 in the graphics dept for multiplatform games =

because this site is about saving money...........whats the point browsing the site then going for a more expensive option?

it takes like 30 seconds handing the game over in CEX and getting cash for it..............its like saying "i love driving but i dont want to walk to my car".....stupidity is all i can call it.

everyone knows the elite offer is better so quit acting like its not.

its strange because i rarely get lag on resistance at 60 players, XBL cant do that plus your paying for it.
most third party games use privately hosted servers like modern warfare so it all depends on the connection signals of everyone playing that game with you........its possible that on ps3 you happened to play people with low signal/far from UK, and on xbox you played people with a high signal/in the uk.

id rather play 10 good games then 100 bad ones.
PS3 exclusives get rated higher on average then PC and xbox games.

so you go for quantity over quality?

you do know why xbox's warranty was extended to 3 years???
its still not worth it because theres over 3 times more chance of an xbox breaking over a ps3.

your silly if u think YLOD is as common as RROD.........no wonder you would get an xbox.

you dont know your basic facts, so im not going to carry on writting everything else........figure it out yourself if you want to otherwise dont argue with someone whos talking facts next time.

can anybody tell me what the main difference are between this xbox and teh elite?

are the both able to go online and play games?

also its either this or the ps3 for me, which i think offers onlien gamign for free, where as the xbox you ahve to pay?

is this p3s's online gaming smooth and without problems now though?

thanks
#28
the main difference between the elite and this box is the elites120gb hdd compared to 60gb hdd, also the elite is black, apart from that there is no real difference, they can both do exactly as one another, eg online play etc

It is true that in the past the PS3 did suffer from some lazy ports but that is certainly changing now and with the new slims lower price and thus higher sales I think very soon it could become the lead third party platform. And let's not forget the PS3's ever increasing range of exclusives are starting to push graphics ahead of what the 360 can replicate.

There are other advantages the PS3 has like built in wifi, free online gaming and best off all the ability to play virtually every media format known to man like blu ray, dvd, wmv, divx, mp4, jpeg, AAC, Wma and mp3.

If you're after a 360 this is a good deal but in my opinion the PS3 is the better console and it's not even close to peaking where as the 360 probably already has.

Just my opinion of course! :whistling:

The latest issue of Game Informer contains a surprising statistic for anyone who's ever loved and lost their Microsoft-branded home console – according to their survey, in which over 5,000 console owners participated, the Xbox 360's current failure rate due to the Red Ring of Death, E74 or other hardware failure is 54.2 percent.

Unfortunately, for having the highest failure rate, survey participants also pinned Microsoft for having the least helpful customer service representatives. Not that it matters – later in the survey, only 3.8 percent of participants said they'd never buy another Xbox 360 due to its high failure rate.

Speaking of which, we're not sure what future techno-utopia this poll was conducted in, but a 54.2 percent Xbox 360 failure rate sounds awfully low. Had the survey's participants been comprised entirely of Joystiq staffers, it would have been a bone-chilling 100 percent.

Has anyone ordered and received theirs?

Are they Jasper consoles with a 150W power supply? What is the manufacture date?

Thanks.
