#2
you wont find these on the website until friday am bundle starts then
#3
Whats the PRO console ? I think this is a bit misleading, the picture shows the Elite console, with the pro price ? Tell me if im wrong
#4
Pro is the premium.

The Xbox 360 Pro is the Xbox 360 Premium renamed.

However, all Xbox 360 Pro's should have an HDMI port and should also feature a new heatsink on the 90nm chip which will stop the RROD. It should also not scratch disks and it has been said it is not as loud as the previous consoles.

does the elite contain this new chip and the heatsink ?
#9
The Elite had this new motherboard revision first, the Premiums are now getting it - aside from the obvious HDMI port, the power delivery has been changed slightly and the CPU/GPU have been expoxied to the main board to prevent the PCB warping and breaking the BGA contacts which is what generally causes the RROD. Whether it works or not is something only time can really tell.

Do either of these play HD DVD discs?

You would still need the addon drive to play HD DvD discs, I think this is to keep the console costs down. Though they should make a xbox 360 with the HD drive just to anony sony lol :-D

Is this online only?
#13
Excellent, this is exactly what I have been waiting for. Is there anyway of telling if this is them getting rid of the old premium stock, or will they all be new ones with HDMI from Friday?

Yeah they should include a hd player, maybe they could also include wi-fi as well as not charge you to play on line, that would really show sony.

XBOX live is better than sony hashed attempt simply because we do pay for it. The wifi and hd dvd are very good ideas, bring it up at the meeting!
#20
I'm quite happy paying for Live. It's an excellent service.

TBH my PS3 has trouble connecting to the internet most of the time, while my Wii, DS, Laptop and 2nd PC are all fine.

Sony has a long way to go with online, but hey it's free.

We should keep this on topic before it gets into another of those PS3 vs 360 posts...!

Yeah, and then we'd all be complaining about the high prices of the Xbox 360.

Edit: The problem with that is that not everyone will want to pay the extra price for the HD player. Some people are quite happy watching their 'average quality' dvd's and not paying extra for better quality.

I think the point is it would be nice for microsoft to extend the range a little more than painting it black with a bigger HDD. I mean how difficult is it to add a hd dvd rom drive one wonders. The price will go up no two ways but if its an option within the range it keeps the we want just a console for game happy as well as the I want a console and a hd dvd player without a addon taking room up. Surly if microsoft want the adult gaming market that is one very easy way to snuff out sony and promote the hd dvd. Just a thought :) (And sorry I know its off topic)

If they released an edition with the HDMI connector and an integrated HD-DVD drive for about what a premium + HD drive costs now then I for one would buy it straight away. I'm pretty sure there must be thousands more who want a "one box" solution and don't want the clutter of a seperate drive. I wonder if there aren't perhaps technical issues with integrating an HD drive within the console - heat problems again maybe?

Heat shouldn't be an issue as the drive generate only a small finger print of the overall heat. Proberley looked at the PS3 decied if thats not selling well as an all in one entertainment centre then the 360 won't?

It's all down to cost, Microsoft are giving people a choice - if you want HD DVD then buy it as an extra, where as Sony are just including it and charging the extra. Each one has a fair argument I suppose, if your gonna buy it anyway at some point then might as well put it all in 1 box as opposed to another device under your TV.

Me personally only wanted 1 box so I got a PS3 at launch but now I'm buying this deal on friday aswell, so logic has gone out of the window! Just the Pro one though, not interested in connecting to Live due to the cost and I cannot predict if I'll have time to get my moneys worth.

Good deal. Marked Hot.

Yes but this all generates cost for Microsoft. How can they be sure that they will make profit by releasing a "one box" How are you so sure that there must be thousands more who want one of these "one box" solutions. This topic generates various questions like: Maybe Sony should release a PS3 with no HD-DVD player (Rediculous, I know) Or why Nintendo didn't include a DVD player in their "next-gen" console.

I believe a HD-DVD player in your console is unnecessary. And so is introducing a "one box" just to satisfy customers who were most likely going to buy the seperate hardware anyway.

The PS3 is fine connecting to the network, it works just as well for me as the 360 does so don't put a silly negative on it :)

The don't have that long to go, all they need to do is have XMB over games so you can view messages and your friends. At least they are hosting dedicated servers for free, whereas your paying £40 a year for Live with no dedicated servers. Whatever your happy with though, keep paying your £40.

It isn't necessary at the moment but the PS3 is clearly a long term product. In 5 years once HDTV prices have dropped considerably you will be happy that it has a built in Blu-Ray.

Anyway, remember that even though this says it is an Xbox 360 Pro. How do we know for sure that you won't just receive a Premium instead?

It's the perfect time to buy a 360, a working console, quiet disc drive, Bioshock, Halo 3 and Mass Effect all this year :)
#27
If you receive a Premium, it wouldn't have the HDMI port (or even the HDMI port mentioned on the box if you wanted to check before opening the box).

Do you think there is much point planning 5 years ahead these days, I'll probably have a new console & telly by then!

Are they working on the next round of consoles yet? I must admit I've not looked into it at all as I've only just ordered my 360 :)

worto.

I was one of those who wanted a "one box", and due to this oversight by microsoft i got myself a PS3.

The PS3 plays games on Blu ray discs, all sony did was make sure it could play movies, The 360 plays games on HD discs its just not capable of playing movies.

And a wii is no more a next gen console than a PS2.
#30
The Wii is more next-gen than any other console.

What new features has the 360 and PS3 brought?

Better graphics?

erm....

Gamers are getting bored, we need new functionality, that is what the Wii has brought.
#31
If this incredibly dull debate is going to be rolled out for the fortieth time, can it be taken here please

Cheers :)

Good deal!

Have you not heard of the PS3 Eye then??

Surely if you can afford a £300 or more console (with games and extra peripherals) you can afford the £30ish a year for Live. I mean COME ON that is hardly expensive! its less than the price of a pint a month!

That argument to me never holds water that Live costs too much

Are you sure? I thought it was the other way round! I think the 360 shouldve had the HD drive built in from the start, it just gives you more choice and makes it future proof in respect of game sizes - something thats show by blue dragon thats out tomorrow, its split over 3 discs! :w00t:
#36
I don't see why this is 'off-topic' I think if people read the opinions of different people it will help them decide weather they want to purchase a Wii, 360, or PS3.

Haha you have to be kidding right?

Whats fun in the acquarium. What I have seen there is only 1 player games, the wii is all about fun and getting everyone to play.

Even the guy on that video looked bored moving those balls.
Everyone who has played on my wii has enjoyed it - the wii has done something no one expected - hats off to nintendo (they took a massive risk and it has paid off big time) as for sony, they have done nothing except make things faster at greater expense and look how much of a failure it has been in comparison to the other console launches (of this and previous generations).

As for the 360 it seems an astounding price for the console especially considering the revisions and what not. It's worth it :)

does the elite contain this new chip and the heatsink ?

You should be aware here - there has been no conformation of the switch to 65nm chips yet (although the new heatsink seems to be included). Most sites seem to allude to the Elite carrying the 'old' 90nm set and MS won't start using 65nm until autumn (which may begin filtering through the backlog of 90nm stock around xmas) . So if you are waiting on the quieter, more reliable 65nm then make sure it's been confirmed (I'm pretty sure it'll become known in time) instead of buying one now and finding out the 65nm is only 2 months or so away.

PS3 and Elite deal is live now, can not find the Pro + BiosShock deal tho

Can't see the Elite deal, do you have a working link to it?
