4GB? Hang on a minute. I thought they were only released with 250GB hard drives?

So I'm guessing this is basically the "Arcade" version of the slim console?

I keep saying it with all these 4gb posts, why not just pay the extra £30 for the 250gb version...

Also if your a PS3 owner and thinking of getting an XBOX too... Warning, I have been a PS3 owner for 3 years and decided to get one of these ready to try out this kinect thing... But the XBOX is aweful, it's VERY loud (and they say it's much quieter than the previous, oh my), it is mainly the seperate power supply kicking out all the noise. Also the controllers are very clicky, not nice too use, then there's the menu system, it's like having a wii again, aweful set up and navigation... Also doesn't play as many codecs as the PS3. I was really dissapointed over all. If this kinect is rubbish am selling it...

I've not heard one of the new xbox's so I can't comment on the noise level, however you comment about the controller is a personal choice, I personally would prefer the xbox controller.

PS3 media server +PS3/360 = no codec worries
i would personally take the 360 controllers over the ps3

i own both for those going fanboy

Why does personal preference always come into the 360 and ps3 deals on consoles.

It's not like in every star trek thread you get babylon 5, star wars fans bashing the product, or in car deals you get people saying one make is worse than another plus a whole other range of products.

360 deal - is it cheapest possible, yes/no, if yes vote hot and comment to the OP for posting a good deal. If it can be found cheaper then state this in a comment and others can get a better deal elsewhere. No need to mention ps3, wii, commodore 64, mega drive, dreamcast, or any other console that has ever played games, you strange people for bringing up 360 in ps3 threads and vice versa.

You clearly have the hands of a small child if you prefer PS3 controllers over 360 ones. (oh and I have both consoles. So have no bias)

My xbox is near silent, don't know what you are doing wrong! power supply makes zero noise and when a game is installed on that 250GB hard drive you recommend it is very quiet, my guess is you don't install games, which makes it as loud as the dvd drive, which at times is like a jet engine, but as i said if you install everything it is very quiet.

PS3 fanboys, please create your own thread in Misc section so we have somewhere to hurl abuse away from hijacking someone else legit thread and deal.

Also if your machine is so good why are you coming out with another newer version with different hard drive sizes and then putting the price up, what is the point. At least MS brought out total new design, upgraded components and more and never increased the actual cost compared to the old one.

Plus all you fanboys regarding codec issue, try using xbox 360 through WMC and it will play any thing without need for transcoding software

But PS3 can be quieter and oh..it's got Blu ray :|

But both have their own pros and cons, its a preference not a social debate

Fanboys please click here Xbox 360 or PS3

But for the price for console only this is hotter than anywhere else on the net.

I think you need to research before you write comments.
As the new 320gb PS3 slim is £285 on Gameplay and i think Game.
And that's with Move and the PS Eye included.
So seeing as a plain 250gb is £250, the extra £35 for those and the extra space is not putting the price up. As Move is about £35 on it's own.

Does anyone know if the 4GB still supports internal hard drives and just doesn't ship with one, or has HDD support also been disabled? I've seen a few threads which comment about adding USB drives, but no mention about buying a 2.5" HDD at a later date and adding it. When I got my 360 I got the arcade and bought the HDD later, I've found having both internal memory and external HDD very useful at times.

You have no idea what you are on about, the PSU brick is silent, the dash is well laid out, the controllers are the best thing out there at the moment (ask the US military, they use them for flight simulators). I'll give you the media player comment as the PS3 is a very good Media Player.

I mite wait for the 4gb price to drop a bit or I might buy the Kinect bundle depending on how its received.

The 360 has more highly rated titles available for it, much better online (with lots more downloadable games available and free demos of every single one), and much better performance in cross-platform games. Surely that's more important to a gamer than what video codecs it supports? lol. PS3 fanboys really do have to clutch at straws to make the PS3 sound better, and they're so insecure that they try it in every single Xbox 360 deal.

As for noise, NowGamer used a decibel meter to compare the old 360, the 360 S, the PS3 fat, and the PS3 Slim.........

WINNER: The Xbox 360 S, by a small but not insignificant margin. The result might not be enough to persuade any PS3 fan to adopt the new Xbox 360 S hardware, but it’s a definite consideration for old Xbox 360 jet-engine owners.

There is only one answer: The Sony Defense Force is by far the most aggressive, the most obnoxious and, of course, the most defensive. Let's look at some evidence.
So, what is it about Sony fanboys that makes them more obnoxious? Perhaps it's the way they were raised. Let's face it, most fanboys, no matter their preference, are predominantly teenagers who have had mommy and daddy buy them a games console. If a Sony fanboy got his mother to buy him a $599 PS3, then he is clearly a rather rich teenager. You combine an adolescent with money and what do you get? One irritating little son of a bitch. Conversely, perhaps that kid was poor and spent all his money on a PS3 (which was, when it launched, the most expensive console on the market), and had no more money left to buy another machine, so he clung to his purchase like a limpet and became deranged as he tried to justify the cash he spent.
http://www.destructoid.com/fact-ps3-fanboys-are-the-worst-149259.phtml

You should read that article, because it sums up several of the PS3 fanboys on here that seem to appear in every Xbox 360 thread trying to sell products for Sony.

I'd definitely recommend the extra £30 for a 250gb HDD. prices are already up in america of the 250gb hard drive alone @ $135! and why in every 360 thread does there have to be some **** stating how much better their PS3 is?

I have a ps3 , xbox 360 and a wii and they all have plus points and some issues.
Xbox 360 - lots of games , a lot of console for the money but noisy as hell , have to pay to play online and im basically always waiting for it to die on me.
PS3 - Free online play , fantastic blu ray player and great as a media server but not as many good games and psn suffers from server lag also quite expensive.
Wii - great for the kids, brilliant party games but not many standout games , poor graphics and now with Kinect and Ps3 Move coming out it will have to raise its game to compete.
Just my thoughts.

No, just a bored little Dick who's sick of seeing all you immature little fanboys trying to convince each other why their console is best. This is the deals section, not misc, which is where fanboy debates should be confined to. I know, I should just dodge any thread with 360 or Ps3 in their title. In fact I will in future.
Thank you.

I'm not trying to convince anyone. What I said in the post you quoted is a fact, not an opinion. I don't go around posting **** in PS3 deals like some of the people on here go around posting **** in 360 ones. I'm not that insecure.

Good deal on the 4GB Arcade S console itself however (as another member mentioned) I think there's more value in spending that little extra for the 250GB Slim Xbox 360 (even if you're a fan of the Matt finish on the Arcade rather than the gloss) especially with the benefits of installing games onto the HDD.

Also if Microsoft's history of pricing for standalone proprietary HDDs are anything to go by, upgrading the HDD on a Arcade console (for a "full" system set-up) might end up costly.

A recent article on Kotaku suggests that the new line of standalone HDDs for the Slim console will follow the tradition of an expensive price (regardless of the pre-installed extras):
http://kotaku.com/5618288/new-xbox-360-console-same-old-expensive-accessory-prices

Of course one can alleviate/delay such an investment by using a flash drive for storage.

Happy gaming,
Scar

Yes it does, the Xbox S 250 hard drive has just appeared in the USA and will be on sale here soon.
$129.99 = £83.60.
Some time soon the specific Western Digtial 2.5" hard drive will be identified & you'll also be able to go the DIY route (with the necessary driver installed) for a lot less than the official price if you can be bothered (and they have never banned anyone doing this).

Meanwhile 2 x 16gb flash memory is an interesting option.......and you can still use a USB hard drive of any size for all you pics, music & films (but only 16gb of it for game saves etc).

If you format your hard drive in HFS+ you also swerve the 4gb FAT32 file size limit for all those really nice high definition film encodes.

(and that's 1 in the eye for the PS3 fanboys as the PS3 can't do that, they have to buy or rent or borrow Blu-rays or make do with the poorer quality encodes up to 4gbs in size :P )
#36
As a note to the DiY hard drive thing above, the Western Digitals that you could use in the old 360s can be used in the 360 S.

I'm planning to buy this 4Gb 360 Slim and just rip the my DiY 250Gb out of my old 360 and plug it straight in. Only thing is there is no shell for it, but it's fine if you just be careful when moving the console as the hard drive will be literally balancing on the SATA connector.

Your so wrong there fella, i use mkv2vob which splits my large bluray encodes into 4gbs files for easy transferring to the PS3 hard drive. I also use PS3 media server which streams files of any size to the PS3.

I didn't say you couldn't split the files into 4gb segments.
The point is you have to mess around splitting files up to 4gb or less to use on the hard drive.
A hard drive connected to an Xbox formatted in HFS+ doesn't need any messing about doing.
Which is exactly what I said.

You said us PS3 fanboys have to make do with the poorer quality encodes........i dont.
And mkv2vob automatically splits to your desired file size so there isnt any messing about.Dont want to get into a PS3/Xbox war (i have both) just pointing out how easy it is to play these files with no loss of quality.

Actually I said that Xbox owners can format any USB connected hard drive (of any capacity) to HFS+ and not have to worry about the FAT32 4gb file size limit with .wmv high def encodes.
Which is 100% true.

PS3 owners cannot & have to faff around messing about splitting files to comply with that FAT32 files size limit if they want to run larger high def encodes from a hard drive.
Which is also 100% true.

Or else you do have to stick to 4gb or smaller (ie poorer quality) encodes
