Only because everybody writes this......first post so go easy....

Went into ASDA today for the XBOX Slim 250Gb with game for £204 - when scanning through the till came up as £188.03 which is actually cheaper than the console by itself !!

Purchased Console and Mafia II for £188.03 - console price is £189.00

This was in Andover ASDA - note the receipt says "WII & 1 Game Offer - £22.97"

A decent price but I've seen better. If you intend to sell the game on I suppose this is a good deal. The Sainsburies £149.99 deal with a 4gb 360 and Fifa 11+Medal of Honor is far better value. £60 for trade in at Cex or ebay makes the console £90. Can buy any SATA II hard drive upto 250gb, flash it with Microsoft firmware (takes around 5 minutes max) and put it into the 360. All in all I got my 250gb 360 slim for £125. Bargain and it really isn't a hassle to get rid of the games as they are new and quite popular. Not to mention putting in your own laptop hard drive is a piece of ****.

It seems like it went through as "WII & 1 Game Offer" anyway, enjoy it...
#7
Just been to Asda as well, and got this.

Confirmed.

Excellent find!!!

Brilliant price, nice find.
#9
nice find obviously some kind of till error as it mentions Wii and 1 game offer.
#10
what happens if you need to take it back and the receipt says you have bought a wii they might not take it back.

Why not? The customer isn't responsible for what the till prints on the receipt.
#12
It says he bought an xbox it's only the savings that mention the wii
#13
Worked out how this is happening. Mafia II has just been reduced from £39 to £22 in Asda but they have not dropped this game from the deal code for a game and console for £204.
Asda will get wise but you should snap it up while you can. Hot deal for sure, but a glitch due to someone not being on the ball at Asda Head office.
I doubt this price will work with any other game.

Wish it had beed so simple for me. First PC I tried it on HDDHackr didn't recognise the HD and there wasn't access to the BIOS settings needed to change, 2nd PC looked like it had worked, but the 360 doesn't recognise the drive. About to try on a 3rd PC - hopefully this will work. I agree though if you can get your own HDD flashed it is much cheaper way to go, and the 4GB is a better finish (matte rather than gloss) in my view. Having said that, even if you can't flash your own HDD, you could get one ready formatted off ebay for £50 or so.

That is a lot of hassel to save a few quid.

also not wortht he risk voiding the warranty
#16
I'm sorry, a 'few' quid!? Are you for real? If you have a cex near you the £60 refund is instant. They are popular games so won't take long to be sold on ebay if cex isn't available in your area. There's a 4gb memory installed on the system so it'll keep you going for game saves until your hard drive arrives. No warranty is voided by inserting your own hard drive. If you open up an official 360 hard drive then only the hard drive warranty is voided, NOT the console's. It's only a hassle if your a very impatient person.

Back to your comment about about saving a few quid. Mafia 2 is only worth around £25 most places now. Cex offer even less than that. So that brings the price of this console down to £163 or round abouts. A diference of over £30 when compared to selling unwanted games and buying a hard drive seperately. Unless your very rich, I don't think anyone clasifies £30+ saved a few quid. Hard drives rarely fail, especially in consoles so buying your own and installing it and or opening up an exisiting 360 hard drive is well worth it.

I used HDDhacker and it worked fine. Mines was a Samsung drive. Hitachi and Sumsung drives are the typical ones that MS use in their offical HDD 360 family so probably best to use one of those brands when purchasing. Prices are pretty similar regardless of brand so shouldn't cost much.
#18
So how does this work? In my Asda store you need to take a DVD case showing the offer to this till, then they give you the console. i.e. they dont have consoles lined up on the shelves.

I did the same, tell them what you want, i.e 360 250gb and Mafia II - job done.

voted hot, great deal

bought 4 at this price
#22
why worry about taking it back. if owt goes wrong send it back 2 'M $oft'
#23
why expired ?
#24
Why has this expired?! I have just bought this deal 15 minutes ago from my local Asda!
The guy on the till could not understand why it was more expensive to just buy the XBox on its own rather than to buy the XBox and the Mafia game together - but it worked!! Thanks OP.
#25
I'd look a right tool if I took it to the till and scanned at the correct price.

There's a built in slot on the side for the hard drive so it doesn't affect the warranty. Using the Sainsbury's deal it was £90 for the 360 (CEX gave me £60 cash for the 2 games) & £30 for the 250gb drive so £120. I suppose if you got this one for £188 and could sell Mafia 2 for £30 I'd have saved £38. The hassle is another matter, and it would be much better if the drives could be slotted in and formatted like on the PS3. Depends on what pc you have and the features of your bios as to how easy or how much hassle it is!

I'm using the 250gb western digital that has been mentioned on a few of the 4GB threads on here, £30 from Amazon. I don't think the hard drive has been the problem, just the fact I have only had access to cr appy PCs that wouldn't run the hddhackr properly due to not being able to make required changes to bios. Hopefully sorted soon. Even if end up buying a pre-done one off eBay I'll have saved £20 and got the better looking matte finish. Cheers.

Good price. Just dont be fooled by all the false marketing M$ have in place for the slim model. Its a few dB quieter than the old ones, and the power supply is exactly the same size, despite M$ stating otherwise. Really, the only advantage to having this over the old one is the wireless.

I'd recommend finding a cheap 4GB console, as it comes in a matte finish, and looks less tacky, then just buy a 250gb HDD seperately.
#29
What are all the differences between the 4GB and 250GB?

250GB HDD?
Gloss Finish?

Anything else?

Does the 4GB version come with in-built WiFi as the 250GB model?

hot deal if you want the game and the console, otherwise I can confirm the latest asda price for the console only is £182, had a look at my local asda store about an hour ago
#31
Also, is there a HDD capacity limitation regarding the 2.5" drives added to the 4GB model?

.......and do you have to break any seals to install HDD, voiding warranty?

Will the console get banned if you add a HDD due to 'modding'.

My nephew's 2 year-old console got banned recently and he cannot for the life of him work out what for (he certainly hadn't modded the console or tried to play 'backups'). MS wouldn't even discuss it with him and said summat about 'modding'. He still went out and bought another though (daft lad), which then suffered RROD (which I had to X-Clamp for him).

Nope, you'll be fine. It just slots in

£17 (£23 exchange) for Mafia II at CEX so worth it if you cash it in.

yes, you have to go with the same capacity as the official drives, 20, 60, 120 or 250. Any other size will work but will just be formatted down. Might be worth getting a higher capacity drive that could be reformatted again if MS updated it so higher capacities were supported but 250 is the max at the mo (about 228 I think once formatted).

Comes with built in wif-fi but you do not get the headset with the 4GB model.
#37
Brilliant, just got one, worked for me. Said xbox on receipt and then multi buy offer WII & 1 game. My xbox just had RROD for the second time. New xbox is so much quiter, can hardly tell its on.
#38
went to asda today after seeing this earlier and got it with mafia 2, tried it with a different game and it doesnt work. but still a great deal. now i have a very happy husband!!!!
#39
I didn't like the finish on this model, so got the 4gb instead (much better deal in my opinion, if you Cex the games off for £60)
This is definitely hot if you don't want the hassle of mucking about with hard drives, but as stated earlier, pick up a second hand elite 120gb hard drive and stick that in it if you're worried about getting banned, etc, it'd take 3 minutes, tops.
#40
Someone was on about a Sainsbury's Xbox 360 (4GB) + 2 games deal. Is this still available instore or long gone? Can't see it online!

I too prefer the matt finish as opposed to the tacky gloss.

Also, are the HDDs 2.5" SATA or some other interface?
